This book is about Daniel, Sophie and their son Ben. Also Daniel's " friend" Rick, Louise (Rick's sister) and Jody (an actress) have an important part in the plot. I didn't see the twists coming especially when Ben disappears. The story moved along at a good pace. It was a great read.

I would have rated this book a 10, if there was a 10, EXCEPT for the ending. I liked the whole story, and don't agree with some of the criticisms. When I can't put a book down, it is because the story grips me from the start. Some said that there were many holes in the story, but there was enough content to keep me immersed in this book. Also, that some parts were totally unbelievable, which doesn't make since because this is a fiction, and fiction does not have to be believable, even though they do provide the reader with helpful information in a lot of areas, such as drugs, alcoholism, abuse, etc.

My biggest disappointment was the ending. I was on the edge of my seat wanting to know how everything played out with these characters. We needed another chapter.

Love her writing but the story had holes! Is there a sequel?I was left scratching my head. I'm still a fan.

A J Waines quickly became a favorite author of mine because of her masterful way of spinning a thrilling, creeper of a story. Enemy At The Window starts at point in Sophia's life when the worst has already happened. It is the digging ones self out from under deceit and gas lighting to find the truth that takes this story in a direction you don't expect. As each layer is peeled away you aren't quite sure just who is the enemy. Not every story is tied up with a pretty bow at the end, and those are the stories A J Waines is so good at telling.

I enjoyed this book. I thought that this book was well thought out and I enjoyed the psychological aspect. Was she really crazy? Will probably read more books by this author. The next one will be "Girl on the Train".

5.0 out of 5 stars Great plot!

Enemy at the Window is one of those books where you can't imagine how the characters are going to get out of their predicament - and the last few chapters had me holding my breath. Well done, Alison Waines!

5.0 out of 5 stars An explosive read, it’s a book you have to pick up, you won’t put it down.

An irresistible first paragraph, as I read I found myself wanting more and more of the story. Then the rising action sucks you in with the sequence of events. Creating the plot through characters from an omniscient narrator is exquisite: individual voices, characters grow throughout, twists and turns about who did what to whom. I tried on many occasions to work out “who dunnit” and, as with an Agatha Christie, I could not. Each time I thought I’d worked something out, the threads of the story changed. A really very clever storyline, so many threads, so much joy in reading it.
I’ve read all AJ Waines novels and each new one she writes and has published is a step beyond the previous one. Indeed she is a remarkably clever writer with an ingenious agile mind to stir events into a very clever and very readable psychological story.

I found this gripping read understanding how Sophie ended up in hospital and the unravelling. Daniel her husband can't believe she stabbed him he's innocent . His old friend Rick supporting shoulder. Son Ben who doesn't know what's going on. Will they get the answers they all need. A page turner, really good gripping read. 4# Kindle.

3.0 out of 5 stars "nail-biting"?? eher weniger..
Reviewed in Germany on July 6, 2019

5.0 out of 5 stars Another 5 star Winner from AJWaines!

This stand alone chiller pulls in the reader and engages them from the start.
Her plotting is impressive, with many twists and turns to keep us on our toes and a very satisfying psychological punch at the end.
As usual, she gives us a pleasing range of characters to enjoy and shows herself, yet again, to be particularly good at presenting dysfunction convincingly - Rick is especially well drawn n this respect. The writer shows consistent skill in evoking a sense of place and atmosphere with well chosen images and I can see that this book and many of her others would translate very well to the medium of TV /film drama. Highly recommended.
