Product Description

Explore Ultra-Wide Eyepieces - Comfort, Quality, Value. Explore Scientific 82° Series eyepieces, with their 82° apparent field of view, immerses you in a very comfortable ultra-wide field that naturally promotes relaxation at the eyepiece. When you relax your eyes and take in the scene presented before you, it is much easier to observe for longer periods of time, and details begin to materialize that may not have become apparent to you at first glance. Another great benefit of ultra-wide eyepieces is the ease with which you can gaze, not directly at an object, but slightly to either side. This skill, called using averted vision, is especially helpful when observing faint objects, because using averted vision puts the image on a part of your eye that is more sensitive to light, allowing you to see fainter images.

82 degree 4.7mm

82 degree 6.7mm eyepiece

82 degree 8.8 mm eyepiece

82 degree 11 mm eyepiece

Explore Scientific 4.7mm 82° Series Waterproof Eyepiece

The Explore Scientific 4.7mm 82° Series Argon-Purged Waterproof Eyepiece is used when very high magnifications are desired. There are conditions that are required to use your telescope at high magnifying power for planetary and double star observations, and for examining the details of many deep sky objects.

The 4.7mm will not be used every night, but when those times occur when conditions in the sky are near-perfect, you can get views of planetary detail that you will remember for a lifetime with this eyepiece.

Explore Scientific 82° Series 6.7mm Waterproof Eyepiece

The 6.7mm 82 degree eyepiece is great for planetary detail, and does not require the perfect seeing conditions needed for higher magnifications. When using this eyepiece with big refractors, it will often be the ultimate eyepiece under normal viewing conditions. Messier 1, the Crab Nebula with a 152mm telescope will astound you. If this eyepiece is used with a 127mm refractor the Dumbbell Nebula will be a perfect fit. With a 80mm telescope, this eyepiece will give you stunningly detailed views at just over 100x magnification, more than enough power to clearly make out the clouds on Jupiter, and will bring the core of Orion’s Nebula clearly into view.

Explore Scientific 82° Series 8.8mm Waterproof Eyepiece

The 8.8 mm focal length is perfect for observing objects that would benefit from higher magnifications, but that also require a bigger field of view. With bigger refractors (127mm and 152mm) this is an incredible eyepiece to use on Globular Clusters like Messier 13 in Hercules. When using this eyepiece with a 102mm 714 focal length refractor the Eagle Nebula and other similar sized objects will fill your entire view and explode with details. On smaller scopes, like a 80mm 480mm refractor, this eyepiece will delight you with a full view of the Double Cluster in Perseus.

Explore Scientific 82° Series 11mm Waterproof Eyepiece

The 11mm 82° Series Waterproof Argon-Purged Eyepiece is a popular focal length in the upper-medium power magnification class providing both super-wide apparent field and generous eye relief. It is perfect for any application where more power is desired including observing globular star clusters, planetary nebulae, the bright cloud structure near the nucleus of comets, initial observations of planets, and (with the proper safe filtration on your telescope), observations of active regions of the sun. Use with Explore Scientific Focal Extenders for 2X, 3X, or 5X magnification increases while maintaining the eyepiece native apparent field and eye relief.

The 24mm 82° Series Waterproof Argon-Purged Eyepiece is a popular focal length in the upper-medium power magnification class providing both super-wide apparent field and generous eye relief. It is perfect for any application where more power is desired including observing globular star clusters, planetary nebulae, the bright cloud structure near the nucleus of comets, initial observations of planets, and (with the proper safe filtration on your telescope), observations of active regions of the sun. To discover what magnification you will have with a given eyepiece you must know two numbers. First, take your telescope’s focal length in millimeters, and divide this number by the focal length of your eyepiece (this will be written in millimeters on the eyepiece).
