If you are interested in pursuing a career in cyber security regardless of your background, or just want to learn more about this topic, I could not recommend this book more." -- Lance Spitzner, Director SANS Security Awareness

It seems to cover nearly every topic relevant to cybersecurity, but really emphasizes the base knowledge and skills for starting and continuing a cybersecurity career.
I especially appreciated the sections on soft skills, the fact that a degree isn’t necessary, and misinformation and disinformation are covered.
I highly recommend picking this book up!

The book has interesting info on cyber security but it won't prepare you for a job; it improves your ability to talk about cyber security in many areas - which is good - but won't put you in a position to get a job. There are some anecdotes of people that have ended up in cybersecurity, maybe a some takeaways to help you think that 'you can do it too,' but nothing concrete. I have been studying up for the CompTIA Security+ test, which is hard; this won't help with anything like that, you still have to buckles down and get into the real work to make progress on the goal of a job in cyber security.
In sum, I'd call this unnecessary and insufficient, though modestly interesting.

I gained a new point of view on why social engineering works, physical security, the culture and role of cyber security.
Throughout the book, great care has been taken in providing many viewpoints and not making it US or UK focussed. For example, in the history section the inclusion of the Polish cryptography efforts that aided Turing's work, is something that many skim over when providing such histories. Another thing I greatly appreciate is the emphasis on ethics and legality, but without judgement. There are ample opportunities to take even deeper dives into particular ideas through the many references listed in the notes section in the back of each chapter.
The book takes you from an absolute beginner level of explaining the Caesar cipher and history of cyber security, then explains about legality and ethics, and then takes you through a detailed journey of various careers within cyber security up to the board level. The book gives advice on all of these and some case studies on particular areas such as Stuxnet and Wannacry, which are case studies you would expect professionals to know about.
I really enjoyed this book. It opened my mind, made me think beyond my MSc and challenged my previous assumptions and thoughts around cyber security. It has challenged my thinking and given me some opportunities to read further in places that I may wish to look into for my dissertation and potential future career avenues.
I highly recommend people to read at any level but especially for beginners.
