Product Description

Solvent-Based High Gloss Wet Look Sealer

For Concrete and Concrete Pavers

The Armor AR500 is a solvent based acrylic wet look sealer that is designed to seal, enhance, and protect a variety of exterior concrete and concrete paver surfaces. The Armor AR500 penetrates deep into the surface where it chemically bonds to the pores of the concrete and pavers, creating a long lasting, non-yellowing, breathable finish that enhances dull or faded surfaces by creating a darkened wet look, and high gloss finish.

Do not apply this product to red clay brick, slate, flagstone, or other types of natural stone. If you are looking to seal red clay brick, slate, flagstone, or any other type of natural stone, consider the Armor WL550 or the Armor SX5000 WB.

High Gloss Wet Look Finish

Appearance

When applied in clear, the Armor AR500 will darken the surface to bring out the natural coloring the concrete or pavers, and seal it with a transparent high gloss finish.

The actual level of gloss and enhancement received will depend on the type and age of the surface, age, porosity, condition, applicator, application method, and amount of material applied. For an accurate representation of what your surface will look like once sealed, we suggest applying the product to a test area first.

Patio Sealer

How To Apply

The Armor AR500 can be applied with a 3/8-1/2” nap roller, or a solvent resistant commercial pump sprayer. For a consistent wet look and high gloss finish, apply two coats spaced 24 hours apart.

Time Of Day: The Armor AR500 should only be applied in the early evening when air and surface temperatures are declining, and when the sun is no longer positioned over the surface. To avoid bubbling and hazing, do not apply in the morning or middle of the day.

Surface Preparation: The Armor AR500 should be applied to a completely clean and dry surface. If the surface was cleaned with water or pressure washed prior to application, allow the surface to dry for at least 24 hours before sealing. While pressure washing the surface is typically sufficient, spot treatment may be necessary for deep or older stains. The Armor AR500 is designed specifically for use on unsealed concrete and concrete paver surfaces, as well as concrete and concrete pavers previously sealed with a solvent based acrylic. If the concrete is smooth or trowel finished, and doesn’t quickly and easily absorb water, other surface preparation may be required to open up the surface pores, such as acid etching or grinding. If applying over a surface with a water based acrylic, or old, degrading solvent based acrylic, remove the current coating with the Armor CR100 prior to applying the Armor AR500. The Armor AR500 should not be used to seal clay brick, red Chicago pavers, flagstone, slate, or natural stone. If you are looking to seal clay brick, red Chicago pavers, flagstone, slate, or natural stone, consider instead of the Armor WL550 or the Armor SX5000 WB.

Note About Sealing Pavers: Please note, while the Armor AR500 can be applied over paver joints, it is not designed as a bonding agent and will not harden or bond the loose sand in the paver joints. If applying with a roller, loose sand in the joints may cling to the roller and be redistributed across the pavers. For best results, apply first coat with a sprayer if you are applying to pavers with loose sand in the paver joints.

When applying to porous pavers, gloss level may be reduced, and more material may be required to achieve desired finish.

Mixing Opaque Color Packs: Do not exceed more than 6 ounces of color per gallon of sealer. Stir color well before adding to sealer, then once added to sealer, stir again, ensuring color is evenly mixed. Once cured, will cover like a paint—you will be left with an opaque colored finish.

Mixing Semi-Transparent Color Packs: Do not exceed more than 1 ounce of color per gallon of sealer. Stir color well before adding to sealer, then once added to sealer, stir again, ensuring color is evenly mixed. Once cured, will offer a semi-transparent tinted finish.

Adding Non-Slip: For added surface traction, the Armor Non-Slip additive can be added. The ultra-fine, fine, and coarse Armor Non-Slip additives works best in the Armor AR500. Applying the Ultra-Fine: Slowly drill mix 3-6.5 ounces of non-slip additive per gallon of sealer, until completely blended, then apply. For Fine and Coarse: When applying the second coat, add the non-slip additive to the coating using a broadcast spreader, and back roll to encapsulate the non-slip additive.

Clean-Up: Use Xylene or acetone. Dispose of containers in accordance with local and federal regulations.

What do I do if the sealer turns white or bubbles? If solvent-based acrylics are introduced to water, direct sun, or high heat during the curing process, white spots or bubbles can form. If this happens, simply roll over the areas in the early evening with Xylene, or the Armor Blush Repair, for 30-60 seconds until tacky and allow sealer to properly recure.

Up to 175 FT2/Gallon In One Coat

Coverage

Porous Surfaces: Up to 175 FT2/gallon in one coat.

Smooth Surfaces (once properly prepped): Up to 200-225 FT2/gallon in one coat.

Coverage will vary depending on porosity, surface condition, application method, and the amount of material applied by the applicator. The above coverage rates are estimates and will vary. Two coats are suggested for even coverage and appearance. Please note, if it is your first time sealing pavers, or an overly porous surface, a third coat may be required.

My stamped patio looks like NEW now! Love the Armor AR500
5 Stars
My stamped patio looks like NEW now! Love the Armor AR500
I spent a lot of time researching what sealer to use on my 2008 stamped patio. I paid to have it sealed a few times in the past, only to have it fade out and get a white haze on it. I was nervous about doing it myself, but after reading tons of reviews (many were helpful), I finally purchased this sealer. I was torn between this one and the AR350, but I really wanted that "wet" look, so I purchased the AR500. My patio had not been sealed for over 2 years. It had faded and looked as dry as a clay flower pot. There were black spots where the water had sat each time it rained. I spent a lot of time prepping the patio and trimming in the grooves. The ONE BIG lesson I learned was next time, I'm going to invest in a metal canister sprayer and have my fiancé back roll it after I spray. It took WAY too much time to trim in the grooves. The roller I used was 5/8". If I'd used 1", not sure that would have made a difference. Also, the other very helpful tip someone mentioned was when you pour out of the can, to have the open part closest to your hand, instead of to the pan you're pouring into. I didn't understand that at first, but it kept any sealer from dripping on the lid. The fumes are very strong, so I recommend to close your windows while using the sealer and for a day once it's drying. I wish I'd taken a picture, but the box it arrived in, made it VERY easy for me to carry. It had a hand cut out on each side - one side toward the front, the other toward the back. I was worried about how heavy it might be, but I was able to carry it to the back yard. Supplies used - small hand brush, large push broom, 9" roller with 5/8" nap with long pole, 3 or 4" paint brush and an paint tray with disposable liners. Here are the steps I did to make it successful:1. Cleaned patio with Dawn dish soap and water. Bought a hand held brush and used a push broom with a bucket & hose. I didn't want to power wash it as I was afraid it might get damaged due to the age.2. Used a leaf blower to get rid of excess water and let it dry for a couple days. Since it was so porous, I figured the water was still down in the concrete.3. Started sealing - first trimmed the area I was doing with the paint brush - against the foundation and in between the grooves. Rolling it on only, it was not getting down in the grooves or against the foundation.4. Let it dry for a few days and returned the furniture to the patio.5. After a few weeks, it started to fade/turn white in spots. I also had some bubbles in the sealer. I was discouraged, so I messaged Foundation Armor and shared pics. They said it should be fine once I do the second coat. I probably should have used some xylene on it to remove the bubbles, but didn't.6. About 2.5 months later (due to my schedule and weather) put on a 2nd coat with roller and didn't use the paint brush as much to trim. (I did use the hose again to rinse off any pollen, etc and let dry a few days before sealing)7. Waited about another week, and saw a few spots that still looked lite due to the highs/lows of the patio. This time used the paint brush and touched up the patio by hand. Bubbles were still in the areas where I put it on probably a little thick. The 2nd coat and touch up coat, didn't really remove too many of them.8. Waited a few more days and placed patio furniture back. And I'm DONE! lolI'm very pleased with how it turned out. A stamped patio is an investment in itself, so it's important to also keep it sealed properly. I will probably put one more coat on in the Spring as I have a gallon or so left in the can. The instructions say it will keep for a year. For reference, my patio is 20' x 25' and I purchased the 5 gallon bucket.I hope this review helps anyone who might be on the fence about purchasing this sealer. I highly recommend. The only reason I gave it 4 stars for durability and ease of use, is because I'm not sure how it will look a year from now and it was a little challenging to use the product, but well worth it!!Good luck and you'll be happy when you're done! Enjoy the pics and a few of my doggie!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exceptional Protection for My Patio to give Great Look
Reviewed in the United States on October 16, 2023
My Previous was out of shape and showing signs of going Dullness

I recently used a concrete sealer on my patio, and I must say I am thoroughly impressed with the results. The product I used was AR500, and it has completely transformed the look and durability of my concrete Patio surfaces.

The application process was straightforward. I followed the manufacturer's instructions, which were clear and easy to understand. The sealer went on smoothly, and it dried relatively quickly, allowing me to complete the project in a weekend. I appreciated that it was also low in odor, which made the application more pleasant.

Not only does the sealer offer fantastic protection, but it has also enhanced the appearance of my concrete surfaces (Basement Steps). My Patio now have a beautiful glossy look, and the colors appear more vibrant. It has added an attractive finish that really complements the surrounding landscape.

As you can see first few 3 pictures shows how my patio looked before applying AR500 and last 3 pictures shows the transformation (I also applied it to my Concrete Basement Stairs), Pl. note that I also mixed it with "Armor Fine Non Slip Additive for Slip Resistant Acrylic Sealers, Epoxy Coatings, and Urethane Coatings - for Up to 5 Gallons"

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use and great wet look results!
Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2023
Great product. This was my first time using AR500. I have previously used CS309 and I have been looking at this particular product for the last 2 seasons, but I still had 5 gallons left of the previous product, so I wanted to use that all first. After last year's application of concrete sealer which left my stamped concrete looking dull, I decided that this year I would try this product instead and as most reviewers have pointed out, this product works very well without any problems. I typically seal my patio every year and like the wet look. AR500 certainly delivers. I power washed my patio and let it dry for 24 hours. I sprayed AR00 on using a Chapin sprayer with .5 gpm nozzle and then back rolled. I allowed the 1st coat to dry 24 hours and then applied the 2nd coat in the same way and I am very pleased with the results. I had no issues with bubbles and for the first time ever in 20 years of sealing this patio, I did not have to spray on any xylene to smooth out problematic areas. Cleanup with easy with xylene and overall, I'm very pleased with AR500 and will be a yearly customer from now on.

4.0 out of 5 stars So Pretty
Reviewed in the United States on September 18, 2023
I was so worried when I bought this product. I was unsure of it use indoors. I will say, the fumes are horrendous, but the shine is as advertised even after the first coat. The wet look is definitely a wet look!!! I am so in love with my floor. I can’t wait until the second coat is done! I can say that this product is easy to use and easy to apply. Dry time says 24 hours between each application but it is drying faster with the use of fans. (I would definitely recommend allowing the full 24 hours dry time though!)
