Blame: A Completely Gripping Psychological Suspense Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 792 ratings

“A compelling exploration of the human psyche . . . stands out as an excellent piece of psychological fiction” from the bestselling author of #MeToo (Book Rant Reviews).

What if the past came knocking?

Frankie is running away from her past and the repercussions of a night that changed her life forever. Hoping for a fresh start she unexpectedly falls in love.

Unbeknown to Frankie, the wheels of fate are set in motion when Herbert Dunne, a convicted murderer, is released from prison.

When he moves in with Margaret, a woman he has formed an unlikely relationship with, their dark sides gradually emerge allowing their inner demons to blossom.

News of Herbert’s release once again rocks the small village of Elkdale, as the locals remember the young woman he murdered.

But what is Herbert hoping to achieve by stirring up the past? And who is behind the new spate of murders?

One thing is clear—someone is out for revenge. Someone who thinks Frankie and her friends are to blame . . .

“With settings I could get lost in, characters that inspired even my dark little heart and the thrill of bad meeting bad, I thoroughly recommend this.” —Melanie’s Reads

About the Author

Patricia Dixon was born in Manchester where she still lives with her husband. They have two grown up children and one grandson, plus the company of a lazy bulldog. Ignoring her high school reports and possibly sound advice from teachers, Patricia shunned the world of academia and instead, stubbornly pursued a career in fashion. Once the sparkle of London life wore off she returned north and embarked on a new adventure, that of motherhood. Now, almost thirty years later she has acquiesced to the wise words of her elders and turned her hand to writing. Patricia has written five novels set in the Loire and then, in complete contrast, a much darker story of psychological suspense. She is currently writing her next book, a murderous tale set in the sixties and if she’s not at her desk Patricia loves to read historical fiction or attempts recipes that look great on television but not necessarily her plate. And when the penny jar is full she cashes in her coins and heads to France, the lure of red wine and escapism equalled only by the pursuance of her dream job, writing for a living.

I really liked this book. The author knows how to tell a story. There were a lot of characters woven together, but she never lost track of how they were connected, and in the end, everything was wrapped up and tied with a pretty bow.

How can you figure out who did it when everyone is a little to blame? A good twisty tale!

This book tells the story of a woman murdered. It explores the murders perspective, the father’s perspective and the guilt the witnesses experience. It truly is an amazing mystery and blame is the perfect title. Ironically, so many people blame themselves or others that it makes finding out who’s killing the witnesses a guessing game.

This book had so much Australian slang word that I really had to focus and think to understand what the writer was referring to. A bit here or there would have been fine but this was every paragraph. I don’t want to have to think that hard when I read. Not for me.

BLAME is a psychological thriller Blame by Patricia Dixon.

Three teenagers, Frankie, Bea and Scarlet, set off to their secret hideaway with booze, drugs to get stoned and munchies to satisfy their cravings while talking about life and their dreams. But they ended up being witnesses to a woman being killed.

The culprit, Herbert Dunne was caught and sent to prison.

Frankie, a self-employed editor, is unable to cope with this tragic event, is running away from her past, and is in the process of moving to France with Jed, hoping for a fresh start.

The story also follows Margaret, the woman who has been by Herbert’s side for the last fourteen years while he served his time in prison. But now after being released from prison, and he moves in with Margaret.

But back in England, unknown to Frankie, Herbert blames these three teenagers for ruining his life. And now he seeks revenge…but time is running out as he has terminal cancer.

Someone is after Frankie and her two friends.

Someone who is going to make sure they all pay the price…

This was a fast-paced twisting psychological thriller with engaging characters and lots of red herrings to lead you down a different path. A very enjoyable read!

Many thanks to the author and Bloodhound Books for my digital copy.

I really liked this book. The main thing I noticed was no repetition over and over again. Kept me interested to the end.

Many thanks to the author / Bloodhound Books for the digital copy of this crime fiction. Read and reviewed voluntarily, opinions expressed here are unbiased and entirely my own.

Frankie witnessed a brutal crime when she was a teenager. She testified against "Herbert" which is what convicted him and sent him to prison for years. But he has been diagnosed with terminal cancer, so he's being released early ... like now. And he's spent a lot of time plotting and planning his revenge.

Part of his plan is locating the witnesses who put him in prison .. and he has some help. Margaret is woman who loves Herbert and is willing to do anything he needs her to do. Maybe she enjoys it a touch too much?

Frankie not only witnessed a crime, but she was also stalked by an ex-boyfriend. She fled to France to make a new life. And now she's back in England, unaware that someone is seeking revenge.

There are lies and secrets and retribution. Not everyone is who they saw they are. The suspense starts slow but builds steadily throughout. The conclusion was surprising, totally unexpected.

5.0 out of 5 stars When you know you know

When a group of teenagers who have taken over a shelter up high on a hill to experiment with drink and drugs happen to witness the murder of a local girl Abby Mills ,and also recognise the killer as Herbert Dunne a bit of a pervert who attends the local church. Its the start of something that haunts them throughout life and ends up with further murders . That's all I say about the storyline. I'll just say I really enjoyed the book and there is plenty off twist and turns and the best twist is right at the end . This is the first book written by Patricia Dixon that I've read but it won't be the last

Absolutely LOVED this book and everything about it...the characters, the storyline, the twists! I was hooked from start to finish and did not want it to end. I really love the way it was written, how believable the characters were and how their lives intertwined throughout, and how it concluded at the end. I was on edge reading the last few chapters. Highly recommend!

This book was one I thought would just be ok for 99p I didn't expect much. How wrong I was it was very very good, gripping fast paced, very moving in places. I especially enjoyed the last part of this story very gripping. I thought the epilogue was excellent it explains how someone's actions however small can lead to devastating consequences. I liked Frankie the main character, Dunne, Tibbs very disturbing characters overall this is a great read and will look out for more by this Author.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not always the right person gets the Blame!

I have read all of Tricia's books and to my mind this was up there with the best. I have had a sleepless night trying to finish reading it but gave in and finished this morning! Many twists and turns in this drama that you don't foresee! I don't know how she does it but this book is a winner in my eyes and not my usual genre!!!

I was hooked in the story right from the start and the characters were brilliant. For such a lovely lady I don't know where her ideas come from but they really work! Keep up the good work and keep on writing Trish, you are amazing.

3.0 out of 5 stars too predictable
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on April 7, 2022
We’ll,unless something changes and i wouldn’t know because I’m bored, this book is just too predictable for my taste. The descriptions are too long so that it lacks pace. There are whole chapters I’d have left out or cut in half. It might suit some people, I can’t say i liked it much though.
