No fooling around, these get the job done and sound great doing it!

No surprises here; splittable bass pickups that sounds great with or without mods. Currently rolling with a parallel/series mod that makes these things hit even hard. Love them!

Sweet and Punchy

Awesome tone and volume range. Senses every nuance with tone dialed in from the bridge and thunders with tone dialed out from the neck p/u. Sensitivity is far greater than stock p/u's. Have Dimarzio on my Fretless P-Bass & now om my J-Bass, both exceptional upgrades.

Dimarzio Model J on a Fender MIM Jazz bass

I got the bridge and neck J model pickups in a set for my made-in-Mexico Fender Jazz bass. The stock pickups sounded good, but then really has a bad RF buzz, and changing positions, etc., didn't help; also the string responses were not evenly balanced. I installed the J models and they look and sound great. They're quiet, smooth, and well-balanced, and to my ear, they sound like the non-humbucker stock pickups,(which is what I wanted). Note: The bridge and neck pickups on my MIM Jazz bass are both the same size. The American made Jazz basses (and some of the MIM's) have wider neck pickups, and the Model J set has the wider neck pickup. The neck pickup cavity on my MIM is wide enough for the wider standard (American) neck pickup, but the pick guard opening is about 1/16" to small on each side. You will have to make the opening wider for the pickguard to fit over the neck pickup. I taped the front of the pickguard to protect it and used a small file to enlarge the opening and smoothed it with fine sandpaper (it looks just like it was done at the factory). Another issue was that the Model J's are thicker/deeper than the standard stock pickups (i.e., both the Mexican and American made). You will not be able to use the stock foam seating (it's too thick). I had to cut a new thinner piece to get the pickup low enough (no big deal). I also had to use the original stock screws that attach the pickups to the body, because the Dimarzio screws are a bit thicker at the top and go straight down thru the pickup screw holes, which is good except my screw holes were not drilled straight down and I didn't want to mess with drilling new holes for the straight down Dimarzio screws. No worries, the stock screws look fine. The wiring: For standard humbucker parallel wiring, solder the black and white wires together and them tape off, then connect the red to the respective pot's middle pole, and the green (grd) to the back of its respective pot. Also, you may want to twist the black and white wires together (positive and grd), and the red and green wires together (positive and grd), which may or may not reduce RF noise. Note: Dimarzio has some great wiring diagrams on their website, which you may want to look at. Also, they note the possible pickup size differences and the smaller neck pickup and opening in some MIM models. They suggest buying two smaller bridge pickups to avoid having to do modifications to the neck pickup's pickguard opening. The only difference is the width (the poles are in the same places as the larger neck pickup. You can't really tell the difference when look at them, as the difference in size is only about 1/8" or so. It's a great upgrade and worth the the effort.
