What happens when an ancient god is thrust into modern-day life? Find out in #1 New York Times bestselling author Rachel Van Dyken’s newest paranormal romance.

"...Eventually, the worship of Horus stopped. For the favored god had finally turned his back on his people—and disappeared.

Until now…"

What's the god of the sky and war supposed to do when I’m stuck in modern-day Seattle with a team of immortals who've dropped me right in the middle of a battle between good and evil?

I move in with Tarek, a werewolf, in an effort to join society and learn about modern times. Then I start my own TikTok and go to my brother’s bar to watch the ridiculous humans attempt to fall in love over and over again.

Listen, I’ve already done my part in saving the world from a catastrophe a month ago—which is how I found myself in this very seat at the bar, stuck in a time that's no longer my own.

I’m bored out of my mind until I start bartending at Sin and am forced to train the new hire—Evi. She's clumsy, shows up late to all of her shifts, constantly has it out for me, and doesn't sleep. Ever. Which would make her a great asset, except as the full moon gets closer, she gets harder to control.

When I find out the truth behind her identity, I know I must go down into the Abyss—to the immortals’ greatest enemy—to help her ascend. If she doesn't, she'll lose an eternity's worth of immortality and pitch the world into chaos. And yes, going to my friends’ enemy is wrong, but I'll stop at nothing to save her.

Even if it means she dies at my hands.

I know they say you can read this book as a standalone but let me tell you, as someone who adores The Dark Ones Saga series, read the other 5 books.
Fast paced, emotional...Dark Power is a second chance romance unlike the usual. It's all about star crossed lovers *sigh*
Angels, Egyptian Gods, Sirens...Mythology.. Hell.. Gosh I could go on.

Gah!! Darkest Power! It was everything! Let me just say that I don't do emotions. I'm awkward and quiet. I observe. But this book.... this book tore me apart. Had me crying and my kids looking at me like I finally lost it. No joke. I laughed, I cried over certain parts just for Rvd to be like wait I'm not done yet. I want you to finish this ride. AND I DID. Without a doubt the best read all year! Her heart and soul bled all over the pages leaving a beautifully written story.

I’m not new to Rachel Van Dyken, but I’m definitely new to the Dark Ones world and series- and what a fun an inventive take on the paranormal trope. This fast paced, second chance romance was a really interesting and entertaining read, with star crossed lovers, mystical vibes and a captivating story keeping the pages turning.

This standalone in the series gives us the story of the god Horus- now in the modern world, and understandably a bit lost by all that is going on around him. Fate puts him in the path of an intriguing woman. Kit is having her own struggles, including just getting by. But a connection to her new co-worker Horus will certainly change the course of both of their lives. And Horus wants to do anything to help her and her mysterious sleep/nightmare issues. Turns out Kit might be more than she seems.

Having not read the other books in the series, I definitely felt on the outside of some jokes, but overall, I was able to follow the story and grasp the whole Dark Ones world. RVD weaves in some great themes and plot twists as well as meaningful mythological references, that at times may be oversaturated but interesting nonetheless. But, I loved the romance and this story moves quickly, so even when I felt lost in prior characters or mythology, the pages kept turning. Certainly a creative and unique take- excited to check out some of the older books!

ARC kindly received for an honest review.

Another great addition to this series. Horus was definitely the book I wanted after book #5. His was an interesting story full of mystery. I liked he and Kit. Their journey was an interesting one and brought forth some very unexpected things. Looking forward to seeing how this plays out in the next two books.

My Rating: 2.5 stars out of 5

Let me begin by making two things perfectly clear. To begin with, I am not a fan of paranormal romances. I never have been. It's a personal pet peeve of mine and not a reflection on the author.

The second is that I have seen some people saying that this could be read as a stand-alone novel. And while I agree that it CAN be, I also think the majority of people will be confused if this is the first book from the Dark Ones Saga that they pick up. Heck, I have read all of them, and I was still confused.

Speaking on just this novel alone, I liked the Egyptian aspect being mixed in with the Japanese. It was different, and I enjoyed the different "words of wisdom" before each chapter. Horus and Kit were both interesting characters in their own right, and I was extremely interested in both her backstory and the potential for them to have been lovers in another time and place. However, I just never connected with them in the way I think the author meant for me to. This may be because when I wasn't confused and trying to remember the prior books, I was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information that had been dumped on me just within the pages of this book.

Don't get me wrong, I definitely think that this book will appeal to a variety of people, especially those who are fans of Rachel in general or those who enjoy paranormal romances. It just isn't on my top list for this year.

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel from the publisher. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

Thank you to the author for an advanced readers copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is book six in the Dark Ones Saga. I haven’t read the other books in the series yet.

Horus is the Egyptian God of Sky—living in modern day Seattle and working at Soul, a bar.

Kit is the new hire at the bar. She seems mortal, but is she? She has no conscious memories and is in a loop of loneliness. When Horus feels a connection with her, he remembers/dreams they had a relationship in a past life. And when he remembers how she saved him, he is determined to do the same for her. Even if it costs him his life.

This is very fast paced and I was sucked into the story immediately. Since I am new to this series, I really didn’t know what to expect. It’s fantasy and paranormal, but in our contemporary world. I have to admit, at times, it was confusing and a little information overload. I think if I had started with book one, I may not have felt this way? There are a lot of characters and history to keep track of. But-I still enjoyed the story and being in their world. I will go back and start with book one.

OMG! I don't even know where to start with this review. I did do a complete re-read of the series before reading this one. And I'm so glad that I did. It made me realize why I love all of these characters, and the mastermind (RVD) behind them.
This is a series that I could read, read, and read again. It really needs to be made into a TV show.
The way that Rachel weaves her stories is unapparelled. She brings everything from Gods and Goddesses, Sirens, Werewolves, Demons and Angels, Egyptian Gods. You will get it all with this.
It will have you laughing and so worried that you don't want to flip the pages. But you have to because you have to know what will happen next.
This is Horus and Kit's story.
If you know Egyptian mythology, you know about Horus.
Kit is a kitsune. A fox. But she is lost and lonely with no memories.
I don't want to say much about the story. We do get quiet a few surprises and twists along the way. I would hate to ruin that for anyone.
You will love the characters and the story, trust me!
This is one of my top reads for the year! And what a fantastic read to end the year on!

Love is the cause of both darkness and light. Love shines it's light and it's absence reflects only darkness.

Darkest Power is both wildly entertianing and a beautiful message. RVD is dangling a cool and unique look at the paranormal world she has given life to. The Creator is weaved throughout the tale of vampire, werewolves, gods, and Fallen. It is a very unique and wonderful place to be-Seattle. lol.

I had wanted to do a re read prior to diving in but I didn't have the patience. Lol. Now I plan on doing it anyway but I have no regrets.

Darkest Power is swoon worthy romance at it's best. Sacrifice and romantic gestures are a plenty. Love, kindness, and family overflow. It is truly the feel good read you didn't know you needed. Rachel, please ignore the not so friendly messages I sent while under the influence of star song. (It's a very emotional time!)

Buckle up, bring wine. I believe Cassius needed more rolls. Whatever you do, don't pick chicken! Lots of hugs and head petting, I promise.

Kit has had nightmares for as long as she can remember during the full moon. She's so lonely and just so, tired. She feels like she's been looking for something, that she's been missing something from her life but she doesn't know what. When she walks into the bar for her job and meets Horus she doesn't realize how much everything is going to change.

This book has humor (laugh out loud moments), romance, sweetness, sacrifices that will bring tears, and love, so much love. I laughed with the characters, I felt what they were feeling, I gasped in a few parts, may or may not have had tears in my eyes more than once or twice. (I really didn't think this one would make me cry but I was oh so wrong.)

There was a time or two I backtracked to see if I missed something but hadn't. I was able to get right back into the story with no problems. Loved this addition to this series.

Horus was a mythical god in another era who is trying to adjust to a different way of living with so many things he is still trying to learn about. He finds himself working at a pub where Kit starts working as well and what they discover about each other will turn both their lives upside down.

Kit is hoping that her new job will fit into her lifestyle when it comes to her sporadic sleeping plans however her first impression wasn’t what she wanted. She is drawn to Horus even though he is cantankerous, and he opens up a whole world that she wasn’t expecting.

The love that Horus and Kit is destined to be and transcends not only time but the differences between them and they will do anything to protect each other and the love they share.

Horus is not only a god but a bartender who loves match making. One kiss and he knows all about you. Crazy right?!? But what happens when a woman walks into his bar and faints at his feet? Why does he feel like he needs to protect her?

Kit, an insomniac who is literally scared to death to fall asleep at night, walks into her new job and passes out. Great times! She also has dreams of a past life that brings her peace. But she is unknowingly hiding a secret of her own.

5 heavenly stars! I absolutely loved this book. Horus and Kit are instantly drawn to each other not really knowing why. But their love story is literally written in the stars. Love is a sacrifice and what would you not give up for love?!

Obsession isn’t a strong enough word to describe my feelings for this series and these characters! Rachel Van Dylan has set the bar when it comes to paranormal and otherworldly creatures! If you haven’t started this series you must because she stretches the imagination and weaves in so many “tales” we know and love! RVD adds in her own flair and originality to these stories and I have fallen for each character!

I wasn’t sure Horus was getting a story and now that I know two more books are coming I’m ecstatic because I’m not ready to part from everyone!

Horus and his love are sure to steal your heart! I loved every gritty, gruff word and the twists added in DANG; MINDBLOWN!

I don’t want to give anything away because you truly have to experience it all first hand!

Horus is a god out of his own time. Thrust into the modern world, he isn’t always sure about why things happen the way they do. But when a woman stumbles into the bar where he works and promptly passes out, he knows things are sure to change, yet again.

Kit is struggling to make rent and this is the 4th job she’s started recently, as long as she can keep it. But falling asleep as soon as she walks in to the door is not what she had in mind. Unfortunately, her inability to sleep in regular patterns may be more than simple insomnia. Meeting her new coworkers, including Horus, sends her life in a new direction entirely.

Horus will have to go to the abyss to discover what is needed to save Kit, seemingly a human but also something else, from the nightmares that plague her sleepy and prevent her from living in peace.

He’s a little on the grumpy side, she’s on the innocent side, but together they find a connection neither thought was possible in this time. There are themes of sacrifice and star-crossed lovers throughout and once I got to know these characters I fell in love with this story.

This is a continuation of the Dark Ones series. I have read most of this series (though somehow missed the one right before this), and though there were a few steps in the beginning where I felt a little shaky (more because I felt like I *should* know what was going on since I had read most of the series), I didn’t have any trouble following the story. The mythology was solid, with some really unique threads tied together. Though there were times I struggled to keep the lore straight, as there are so many crossovers between different cultural mythologies. But when I let go of what I thought I knew about each and just let the story flow, I loved the flow. Not only is an ancient god thrown into the modern world, but mythological lore crosses into a brand new story. The way they are tied together here makes it feel like they way these characters were supposed to have been told.

There are still a couple more stories to tell in this world. I can't wait to see what is in store for Tarek and Bannik in their forthcoming books as well as the series arc in general.

Darkest Power is the 6th book in this author’s Dark Ones series. You can read it as a standalone, but you’ll miss out on some great backstories and a lot of humor if you don’t read the preceding books. And with what’s on the horizon, you don’t want to miss a moment in this world.

Vampires, angels, demons, shifters, and gods, oh my! Yep, the paranormal gang’s all back. And it’s like she decided to throw everything and the kitchen sink at it: paranormal romance, mythology, and fantasy, all within the backdrop of contemporary society. After reading so many of Rachel Van Dyken’s books (and honestly, I’ve yet to find one I wouldn’t recommend), I’d know better by now than to start one of her books after 7 pm. Yet, I did. And I didn’t put it down until my Kindle literally smacked me in the face when I couldn’t continue to keep my eyes open. I quickly picked it back up when my eyes sprung open the next morning, refusing to get out of bed until I finished it.

Talk about star-crossed lovers. With a love beyond the bounds of time and space, Horus and Kit’s story is definitely not one you’ve read before. It’s the ultimate second-chance romance, and that’s my most favorite trope. As always, Rachel sprinkles in her trademark banter and wit to grant a little levity amongst the heavy emotions.

The Dark Ones saga is a long-going series that I started with this book and I know it can be read as a standalone, but you will get the best experience when you know other stories as some characters appear here. This time we get to read about Horus - an Egyptian God of the Sky - who was one of the most important gods in his pantheon.
He is not an easy guy as he's the grumpy kind of a guy and then when he met Kit something changes. Their interest in each other will spark instantly and you know how it is - flying sparks are always HOT. They should be strangers... but something feels familiar, for him and for her, which is strange, but when you are a fallen god anything can happen. Kit wants just to survive and work at the Soul, but meeting with Horus will change her life and no one can be sure what will come out of it!
Once again I'm amazed at what Ms. Van Dyken created in her mind - great pleasurable series that will entertain you for a few evenings. And I hope that I will not have to wait too long for the next book and I will catch up with the series if I will have such a possibility.

This is book 6 in this brilliant series but can be read as a standalone.

Horus is the Egyptian God of the Sky and is living in the mortal world working in a bar. Kit is the new staff member at the bar and comes across human but is she? Horus has an instant connection with her and can't help but be drawn to her, its like he knows her but can't remember how or why. Kit can't help either ash she has no conscious memories.

I love when the fantasy world is set in our real world. It grips you in and holds your attention throughout. As always RVD has a brilliant way of making you love the worlds she weaves and the characters she delivers.

LOVE this!

I was gifted a copy of this book by the Author. This is my honest opinion

I am so happy to be back in this world. I simply can’t get enough of it. I couldn’t put this book down, time was nonexistent as I got lost in this world that the author created. Mythology with a dash of paranormal and a shot of fantasy. It’s the most amazing and lethal combination. My heart and emotions were feeling the effects of RVD’s words. I simply couldn’t get enough of the characters and this series. Horus’s journey had me wishing at the stars for his hea. And Kit… that was his destiny. I just loved their love. All the sacrifices. Wow. The author penned another out of this world, captivating read. I am looking forward to the final two books which definitely can’t come soon enough. Chef’s kiss to another great instalment in the dark ones saga.

How I have missed the gang from the dark ones. We get to read all about the gang and thier shenanigans. Except this time we're introduced to two new people. Horus and Kit!

Horus is the fallen God of Egypt he was the God of the sky. If you thought Cassius was the grumpy one of the group then he had some tuff competition. Till he meets Kit instant attraction from the both of them but yet it seems they are familiar to eachother.

Kit is just trying to make rent when she lands a job working at Soul but little does she know it when she meets Horus her life is about to change for the better.

Such a unique story and how I want to spill the beans about what happens but I will zip my lips! I hope you enjoy this story as much as I did! I can't wait for Bannik and Tarek's story!

This is another fantastic book added to this paranormal romance series. I devoured this story from beginning to end. Kit feels as if something is missing from her life. She has been lonely up until her new job brings her closer to some things and someone, she didn't realize she was missing and needed in her life. She gains a new perspective on her life with friends, family and love as she faces the consequences of the choices she made in the past. Consequences that can be fixed but it comes at a high price. This is a story of consequences and loving through the darkest of times while still shining bright. This story has greed, steamy scenes, laughs, family, friends and more. I enjoyed all of the side characters, but I absolutely love Tarek as his character brings the laughs to the story. I love that Horus and Kit got their HEA, and I'm looking forward to reading Tarek and Bannik books.

Horus is trying to adapt to his reality following rescuing his brother. Things are definitely different for him and he has no idea exactly what the “cultural norms” are. He’s supposed to train the new girl at Soul. He’s shocked when he feels a connection to her.
Kit has gone through life trying to figure out why she feels lonely. All she really knows is when there’s a full moon she will do anything to keep from sleeping at night because of the nightmares. She starts to find out some of the things she’s been missing when the Council starts asking questions. Horus is forced to make some decisions that he thinks is best without talking to the person it effects.

I am not normally a paranormal fan, but RVD can make me like just about anything!

The Dark Ones introduces us to two new people, Horus, who is the god of sky and war and Kit, who works at the bar. These two have chemistry from the word go. There is an instant connection and the journey these two embark upon is full of love and sacrifice.

We also get the opportunity to visit with others who have been part of this saga, so it's always fun to revisit familiar faces and see what they're up to!

RVD does as she does and penned a story that sucks you in from the outset. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up and enjoy!

Darkest Power by Rachel Van Dyken is book 6 in The Dark Ones Saga. This is the story of Kit and Horus. Kit is a human but has issues sleeping due to nightmares especially during the full moon. So, she never seems to sleep which is how she can't seem to hold a job. Starting at another new job she ends up passing out. Horus is a Egyptian God of the Sky who is now working a a regular bartender when he meets Kit. This starts their story. I have read most of the previous book which did help with my enjoyment of this one. But, I did think you could make it a standalone book if you wish to do so.

It has been a hot minute since I've read any Dark Ones books, I love that all the previous characters are so intertwined into Horus and Kit's book. This is entertaining for sure, I loved how it turned out. I know these can all be read as a standalone, but what fun is that. I definitely need to read them all again before the next book. Definitely think this one is worth a read.
