The Lowrance Legacy
It all started in the 1950s, with Darrell Lowrance and his efforts to use transistorized sonar technology to detect fish. His vision has defined the Lowrance legacy for more than six decades – a legacy born on the water. He set out to change the way people fished. He did just that in 1957 with the introduction of the first recreational fishfinder, the FISH-LO-K-TOR, affectionately known by millions as the “Little Green Box.” That first Lowrance fishfinder spawned the recreational fishfinder industry and set the Lowrance brand on a path of innovation and achievement that still drives us today. Our legacy as the top brand in marine electronics has been sustained by more than 60 years of innovation, reliability and quality, all driven by a never-ending quest to help anglers find more fish.

This is very comparable to the HDS9 touch gen 2 that I had on a bass boat.
It is half the price and I would definitely get two of these for the price of one HDS.
This has the 3 in 1 transducer and you can run all three simultaneously giving a great advantage.
Graph overlay, networking and scanning all are reminiscent of my HDS. The maps look to be less extensive but I don’t need that much for this application.
I mounted it using a ram mount for versatility.
Probably the biggest difference in comparison is not advertised and that is that this has less resolution which I believe is 720.
The clarity is great however and I honestly do not think you would see a lot of difference in a side by side comparison.
In conclusion, if you want the best, go with HDS. If you want very good and very comparable for half the price this is your ticket!

I used Lowrance for about the past 12 years, but recently their products have turned to garbage. Bought a Hook2-7 in June and the it stopped reading the temp in December. Even when this unit did "work" it was horrible at reading the bottom and would constantly lose the depth. Lowrance replaced the transducer and sent me another... still not reading temp. They sent me a new head unit and I sold the Hook2 as a new unit to someone local. I "upgraded" to their Elite Ti2 shortly afterward. Got everything installed on the boat and on the very first trip it wouldn't connect to the transducer. After about 3 hours on the phone with lowrance... turns out you cannot use sonar with version 0.0.0, haha... bad firmware. I had to pay about $25 more bucks to ship it back to them and they sent me a brand new head unit. Guess what... SAME THING. Sonar Version 0.0.0. Did not work. Returned it for a refund this time.
My issues with their products started in December, and now I am absolutely done with the company. Customer service is VERY VERY slow, and you pretty much won't be able to speak with anyone unless you have about an hour to kill. It's absolutely ridiculous.
I fully believe that Lowrance used to be the #1 company on the market for fish finders. However, these days you will be lucky to get one that works.
I sincerely hope this helps save you a ton of hassle. Seriously.. .go with a different brand (unless you enjoy frustration... then buy a lowrance).
