4C Lens Technology

Lincoln Electric’s proprietary liquid crystal display (LCD) enhances the visible color spectrum of the display. Unlike traditional auto-darkening filters, 4C lens technology broadens the color range & hues which can be seen in both light and dark states. This eliminates imperfections and color saturation to create the clearest view of the base material, arc & puddle, while reducing eye strain.

1/1/1/1 Optical Clarity

Auto Darkening Lens quality is graded 1 to 3 in each class, with 1 being the best and 3 being the worst. The 1/1/1/1 grade establishes a data driven optic performance level to benchmark against during your research and purchase process for auto darkening welding helmets.

External Shade & Grind Control

The left side of the shell features a small, convenient control dial which allows the operator to adjust between shades 9 -13 or transition to grind mode without having to remove the helmet. (1840 Series All American Graphic Shell Shown)

Do NOT Be Dependent on this Helmet! Did not work right out of the box.

Do NOT Be Dependent on this Helmet! Did not work right out of the box.
April 20, 2022 - I determined the darkening affect is a function of the sensitivity adjustment. One must turn it almost all the way to "HI". Then test by covering the sensors while pointing it at a bright light. The test was successful sometimes, and the intermittent success was not acceptable to me.I attach a screen shot of what is covered under Lincoln Electric's warranty. The helmet for 3 years, the optics for only two.April 17, 2022 - I received the 2nd Lincoln Electric Welding helmet from Amazon. This time, I didn't remove any protective lens coverings and took it right outside. IT FAILED TO DARKEN LOOKING NEAR THE SUN! The "test" of the helmet and sensors is to cover the sensors, then uncover, and the helmet should "flash-darken" to show they work.I tried various sensitivity levels. When I put the sensitivity all the way to high, it darkened . . . but it didn't clear back up when I stepped into the shade! The helmets Auto Darkening cartridges DO NOT WORK and you take an huge chance with your eyes. So far, 2 for 2 NOT WORKING.April 14, 2022 - Dropped from 3 to 1-star because failure of customer service. When I reported the failure to warranty on April 08, I was promised a new Auto Darkening Filter (ADF) cartridge and a verification email. I received NEITHER.I called again. First I was put through to a heavily-accented woman who dropped the call. I called again and this time I got Steve - thank you, Steve.Unlike the first time, Steve didn't need the ADF filter cartridge serial number. He said the cartridge will be here in a couple of days. I will wait until next week. If the cartridge is not received by Thursday the 21st, I will ship this thing back to Amazon. WARNING - TEST YOUR HELMET OUT IN THE SUN. . . . Many TIMES!!!April 8, 2022. I received my new Lincoln Electric 1840 series welding helmet yesterday.First, I read the instructions. Yes, I am one of *them*.Then I went outside to test the helmet. Sometimes it would darken, sometimes not. Sometimes it would lighten, sometimes not. I looked up toward (not AT) the sun, and then into shadow. This intermittent, sometimes working, did not set right with me. I even changed the battery to be sure.Having a friend who is a master welder, I took the helmet to him (and borrowed his to compare).THE GOOD - The true color optics and clarity were AMAZING. He thought they were OUTSTANDING. (Me, too)The BAD - he agreed that the 1840 was not working right. We both fiddled with the knobs, but still not right.Side note - he says the exterior darkness adjuster could get hit in close quarters and inadvertently change the setting. Something for the reader to think about. I am not a professional so that won't concern me.I called Lincoln Electric. I asked for the tech support for their welding helmets. They sent me to the welding system tech support. Eventually, I made it back to warranty / tech support. He wanted the lens serial number. You have to remove the lens unit from the helmet, and then remove the bracket, to read it. The Lincoln Electric guy asked for my info. Says he will send a new lens and I could just throw the old one away.Well, 100% for customer service!!!!I called them because I have sent stuff back to Amazon to be replaced, and have received more ****. My eyes are precious, and I wasn't going to play that. So, there you have it. I will follow-up when I get the new Lens assembly.THEREFORE - if you MUST have a working helmet quickly, you could take your chances.
