I use an 8 pound Collins sledge with it. Most of what I split is oak. So far the point hasn't bent or become dull.
I start the point in whatever check I can find in the end of the log, and if it should bounce out after a few hits, I move the point further along the check. Eventually the check will expand and open. If it gets kinda stuck, grab the flat wedge if you have one and put that into action - I've used both on the most stubborn rounds. But most of the time the pointy wedge is great on its own and helps get the job done when your splitting ax needs help, especially those big rounds.
Thumbs up. This is a necessary tool for processing firewood, especially if you have some on the larger side.
I might take down trees just to use this thing more!
