Chandler's Take on the Module!

Chandler Limited's Little Devil Compressor fits into any 500-series module, putting Chandler's all-discrete circuitry, transformer-balanced designs, and premier hand-made quality into the popular modern format. The Little Devil Compressor is a FET compressor, which uses concepts from Chandler's famous Germanium Compressor and the Neve 2264 compressor. Its input control features a curve selection, with germanium diode knees. There are also a gain makeup control, a 3-position attack control, a flexible sidechain filter, and full hardware bypass on the Chandler Limited Little Devil Compressor.

Chandler Limited Little Devil Compressor Module Features:
  • FET compressor module
  • Input control and curve selection with zener and germanium diode knees
  • Gain make-up control
  • Attack control and 3-position ratio control
  • Sidechain filter
  • THD selection
  • Release control
  • Full hardwire bypass
  • Runs on any 500 series rack and Power Supply Unit
Bring Chandler Limited's vintage-flavored compression to your 500 series rack, with the Little Devil Compressor!

Quality Module from Chandler Limited
Chandler Limited's collection of EQs, compressors/limiters, and preamplifiers are among the best in the industry. Indeed, Chandler Limited's innovative Germanium Series uses classic, smooth-sounding germanium transistors - like those found on the earliest Neve, EMI, Telefunken, and Fairchild units - to effectively revive that warm vintage sound palette. What's more, in addition to fantastic outboard gear, Chandler offers up classic sounds in plug-in form with their spot-on emulations of the legendary Abbey Road console. When you want a vintage touch brought to your modern recordings, trust Chandler Limited.

I Love This

First off, the build quality is incredible on this thing. Once I plugged it in I realized the output on this unit is even more incredible! The Devil will color vocals a lot (depending on the setting) and you can really squash or gently apply with the settings. The color is present, but it sounds very musical. Honestly, I've stopped using any software compression on my vocals when mixing. I've found it to sound very vintage on more organic sounding tracks and very contemporary on more electronic tracks. It just seems to mold to the performance and gets it right every single time!

Wow!

All I can say is WOW! Full of color! This beast can give you the subtle gentle compression. At the same time, you can compress the hell out of the sound! Mix control is a must have! And the sound, yes, the sound of iron and all analog pathway! It is my favorite on bass and drums, and a bit of electric guitar! A must have piece if you are looking for a colorful character compressor in 500 series format!

Thick

I don't own one of these, but I was able to demo one for a couple of weeks in my home studio. So, take my opinion for what it's worth given that limited experience.

I found the Little Devil Compressor to be an extremely colored, vibey compressor, as if adding a bit of pleasant distortion to everything I ran through it (mostly, vocals). As such, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it as an only compressor, but it would add a nice crayon to your box. I found that it did a good job of taking some edge off of a too-bright vocal mic (a common problem I think).

My only complaint would be that the little knobs made it a little tough to dial in the exact amount of compression that I wanted, sometimes. Call me old fashioned, but I like a big bakelite knob to grab with my whole hand...

What Do Our In-house Gear Experts Think?

Stuart Niven

These are my main kick and snare compressors! From super smooth to agressive and everywhere in between, these Little Devils are insane! Sonically as amazing as you expect from Chandler gear, and in the convinient 500 series form factor. Everybody needs a pair of Devils!

AJ Becerra

I personally have a pair of Chandler Limited Little Devil Compressors, and I couldn't be happier with them. I use them on everything, but they're particularly amazing on kick and snare or a drum bus. Big, fat drums are easily achieveable with these. They are also great on vocals and will make a vocal track sound HUGE. Everyone should have a pair of these!!!
