The EDP of Poison Girl opens with a blast of candied orange peel, juicy and sweet. Freshly split vanilla pod-vanilla, sweet and rich, accompanies the orange, and there is a sprinkling of candied rose petals. It’s like you have just been served a freshly-baked, freshly iced, most delicious orange/vanilla/almond pastry imaginable. The fragrance wraps around you, embracing you in its sweetness.
Yes- Poison Girl EDP is sweet. It starts out sweet, it stays sweet, and it ends sweet. As I love gourmand, dessert-like fragrances, I adore Poison Girl’s unabashed sweetness. As soon as I spray it, the world is a better, sweeter place. I can’t help but smile. It’s an instant mood booster.
As the scent develops, you get a hint of its cousin Hypnotic Poison’s marzipan almond essence, adding to the delicious. The Eau de Parfum stays strong for at least four hours, and lasts as a skin scent for seven to nine hours. So while the EDP is not inexpensive, it is very concentrated, and it lasts.
I hate to have to add this last remark, but it’s important. I was overjoyed to realise that what I had been shipped was genuine, Christian Dior, Poison Girl Eau de Parfum. I have ordered fragrances in the past and have been sent counterfeits. I am happy to report that this product is 100% genuine, and worth every penny.
If you love sweet, dessert-like, comforting scents, Poison Girl is a must try. You won’t be disappointed!
IF that this information does not matter to you, here's my original review below, as I do appreciate the clever disguisement of chemicals to smell like real beautiful things in nature. Even if it all is dangerously synthetic.
Let's just get down to business. I got my hands on both bottles by mistake and was able to try them out. I ordered from a high end department store (I hate fakes) and completely forgot about the concentrated version. So I bought this EDP directly from Amazon - not a private seller.
First off, I really don't care if people don't think this is a ground breaking fragrance. It smells lovely. It takes the popular gourmand scent and makes into a slightly more sophisticated fragrance, there's nothing wrong with that. I also don't care for the marketing - which is rather tacky and too edgy for my tastes. But again, it's a lovely perfume. It's slightly sweet and almondy and if you actually let it settle, yes there's an orange/slight rosy note that blooms from the sweetness so it's not sticky and sweet. I know people have different skin types but there's definitely orange in this perfume; it's actually the heart of this fragrance if you let it settle on the skin long enough. A little orange in the beginning and a little orange throughout.
Second, what is the actual difference between the EDP(eau de parfum) and EDT (eau de toilette) of Poison Girl? The bottles already look different. The EDP has an orange reddish color while the EDT is more light pink/purple. Typically EDP lasts longer than the EDT. There is however, a difference in scent. The EDT opens with an orange ice cream sorbet note. This smells *amazing* but like all good things, it comes to an end. After 2 hours it's gone and we're left with the lingering scent of the EDP. The longevity is less than the EDP, this means if you want your perfume to last the whole day the parfum version is a much better choice. Get while it's cheaper on Amazon because they're going to sell like hotcakes.
But what's that? The opening notes of the EDT are really really really good! :(
If you're into sweet/orange/creamy scents anyway. So what I would suggest is get the small bottle of the EDT and keep it in your purse. It's perfect for going out and will give you that extra orange burst for about 1-2 hours maximum. It's a very pricey alternative as you're paying a lot more per oz.
Or you can be like me and just hope Dior comes out with a rollerball version of the EDT. I will buy that in a heartbeat.
