The drill itself is great. Much more power and torque than the old one I had, and it's also smaller and lighter which is great when I'm working between joists or in other smaller spaces where the larger drill just didn't fit.
Now, I'm pretty sure the sellers of these "drill only" are parting out the kits or something, so I was happy that it came with the manual, the Philips head bit, and what I thought was the belt clip. Turns out it's a belt clip for... I don't know what. Maybe some other Ryobi drill, but it's not the right one for this. Oh well. I don't always like having the belt clip attached because you can't stand the drill upright if there's no battery inserted, and usually I'm able to set the battery down on the paint tray of my step ladder. But there are times when that belt clip would come in handy.
Oh well, if I really want it, you can get those from various parts suppliers.
All in all, good drill, just know that you may or may not get all of the associated parts from the seller since I'm pretty sure Ryobi only provides these in the kits you can buy as a Home Depot exclusive.
The drill was new and unused, but in generic packaging. I imagine warranty support from Ryobi is out. If you already have Ryobi batteries and want to upgrade the power of your drill, this is a cheap and easy way to do that.
Some reviews say the light doesn't come on till you start drilling, but actually a slight press of the trigger turns the light on before the drill starts up. So no worries.
Drill sands up straight without the battery which is what you want. Drill is level which is my preference.
Drill has plenty of torque and high speed is, well, high speed.
It has a brushless motor. Thee is a place for a driver bit and a magnet to hang on to some extra items which is hand if you are on a ladder.
it's compact and lightweight for this type of drill. It isn't light, it's relatively light for 18v with decent torque.
One cool thing is the chuck has a hidden quarter inch driver mount so you don't actually have to tighten to drill to use driver bits or drill bits with 1/4 inch driver ends. Just push the bit in and it locks.
It has two speeds. The torque and speed are sufficient for any kind of drilling.
My drill was part of a kit so it may not have a warranty. But can't beat the price. I got the newer batteries separately that have the charge indicator right on the battery--I recommend you hunt around for those because the drill does not have a power gauge. Alternative, there are very reasonable aftermarket batteries with built in LED meters.
Can't beat it for the price.
I also looked at the Hitachi which is really a very nice drill. I got this one because it has the hybrid chuck.
