Controller is fantastic out of the box. Has all the features the V1 did except the media control at the bottom of the controller. Some major gripes I have coming from the V1 to this controller;
1. Lack of RGB control & software compatibility. The V1 didn't have either, but it would have been nice to see it implemented into the newer model. This means the colors around the controller are stuck on changing rainbow colors, and cannot be turned off or set to a single static color.
2. Button placement... As someone who uses both the menu buttons adjacent the home button quite often, the left menu button is positioned directly in front of the left joystick making it a massive pain to reach your thumb over all the time. I genuinely can't see any reason it couldn't remain in its original spot similar to the V1, but all the other buttons are perfectly fine.
3. The port for the wire has a sizeable gap beneath it, giving the USB-C a bit too much leeway and thus being fairly loose. Have yet to encounter any actual issues with it (hasn't come unplugged, etc.)
All round great controller, but if you're coming from the V1 expecting 'new and improved', it's more of a 'different but better' kind of experience. The mech switches for the AXBY buttons have squish now, which took a ton of getting used to compared to the clicky V1 switches. After using both for some time, though, I can say I do actually prefer the V2 squishy switches. As I don't use the additional buttons at all I can't speak to their performance or placement much, though I did think the bottom buttons were a bit hard to reach.

The thumbsticks have a nice comfortable rubber coating that isn’t too sticky or too hard.
The D Pad is large and has a really nice click when pressed. Although it’s a hard plastic and it’s concave at the same time so it doesn’t feel good to use the middle part of your thumb for the left and down side of the D Pad. You have to get used to using the tip of your thumb for everything. If Razer would’ve coated the D Pad in rubber this wouldn’t have been an issue.
The lightning is really nice and bounces off your hands creating a nice glow.
The controller is light because there’s no battery so it’s easy to hold.
The back paddles are great because you can lay the controller on your leg and they won’t be pressed. You don’t have to treat this thing like an egg, always worrying where you’re going to set this down so the paddles don’t get pressed, like another big name controller.
The USB-C port is really wobbly, however. You need to find a light USB-C cable that carries both data and power. Most light cables only carry power. The cable it comes with is a little heavy but it has a large head at the USB-C tip so it won’t wobble. Any other cable will wobble like crazy. I’m thinking the cable for the Elite 2 would work best because it’s light and Carrie’s data but I can’t find mine. Right now I’m using the default cable and it’s working fine. I predict this won’t last long though because the USB-C port itself is so wobbly for the actual USB-C part.
I’m not returning this though because the controller itself is the most comfortable controller I ever held. There’s always a catch with Razer and that comes with the territory.
The vibration is pretty good but nothing crazy like the DualSense.
I got this because I’m a bit of a Razer fan and to me the positives outweigh the negatives. Buying this controller is like getting married to a celebrity. You know it won’t last long, but the time together will be amazing.
The Good:
- The thumbsticks feel fairly nice. Smooth glide makes for a more enjoyable experience on the thumbs.
- Tactile face buttons have a nice clunk to them when pressed.
- Sleek design and nice feel on the hands.
- Extra buttons/bumpers for accessibility purposes.
- Very nice trigger buttons with a smooth glide.
- Responsive, as it should be.
The Meh:
- It can be configured with the Xbox Razer controller app per their FAQ. Doesn't come with its own software.
- Thumbsticks sit a tad too high for my comfort.
The Bad:
- No replacement parts. A titanic downside for this controller, as any controller owner will know, thumbstick rubber will absolutely need to be replaced after years of use. This is especially ironic, considering a big selling point of these thumbsticks is the ability to replace them with the alternate version included in the box. Sucks for you if you lost one; a Google search will pull up several Ebay listings of these controllers without caps. I imagine since there are magnets on the underside, creating more would just be an extra expense for Razer. Instead, they require you to buy a completely new controller. I'm questioning lowering my review just from this fact alone and maybe even returning it.
- The mechanical buttons aren't easy on the hands. If you struggle from carpal tunnel in your right hand, might want to give this one a pass. I don't have too many issues with my hands, but I can feel the strain in them after using the controller heavily for a day.
- Per other reviews and Reddit, Razer has abysmal customer service.
