Kings Grove #3

When We Fall

Rate this book
Chance Palmer is the hottest bachelor in Kings Grove, and even his younger brother Sam sees him as a playboy and a charmer. It's nice to be admired, but Chance is ready for something serious--something like the love he had once before. The love he refuses to talk about.

Michaela "Mike" Grayson fell in love once. And though that relationship gave her the son she'd never trade for anything, it came with a darker side she's still trying to escape.

When Michaela's job requires her to scout a tiny town called Kings Grove as a potential resort destination for her company, she's not prepared for what awaits her there:  a charming playboy with a knack for making her feel like everything in her world just might work out fine. And Chance is unprepared for the feelings he finds inside himself for Michaela, and for her son, Finn.

Can Mike overcome the darkness in her past enough to trust that Chance might be more than just a fantasy? Can Chance Palmer move past the pain of his first love and fall again?

This is Book 3 in the Kings Grove Series. Each book can be read as a standalone.

I'm USA Today Bestselling author Delancey Stewart. My contemporary romances run the gamut of settings and setups, but they always deliver humor, heart and heat. It's a guarantee.

I write from my home in Denver, CO, where I manage a household full of boys and men. Okay, only one man. The hubs. But two boys. I mean, three if you count the hubs. (You see why I do words and not numbers. I was told there'd be no math in this bio. Someone lied.)

I grew up in California and have had more jobs than anyone on earth (personal trainer, pharmaceutical rep, copywriter, tech writer, marketing director, wine seller, elementary school teacher... I'm not kidding. The list. It goes on.) But the one I love the most is writing, in part because I get to meet people who love books and stories as much as I do! I am a reader that usually craves dark and edgy books, but – and this is important – they need to have a HEA. I am not doing to well with warm romances – fact-
Or maybe not ? well there are a few authors - and I call Delancey Stewart one of them – who can get away with presenting me something like “Love Redefined” because I really like it.

Feelings and Taste are a very personal issue – so I find it hard to explain what distinguishes her writing style from others. Maybe it is the fact that she can also write more edgy books – I really have no idea. I can only say that her writing feels warm and comfortable and the more a series like Kings Grove progresses it feels like you are coming home to characters that you have come to love and were intrigued to find out more about.

Book 3 here is no difference – her characters are deep and well written the story setting is great and the plot leaves no wishes open. I know her stories are very different from what I usually read but I would like to recommend her books to you if you – just like me - Sometimes need some peace and light in the middle of all the dark, edgy reads and Delancey Stewart is really a great choice for these moments

Low angst, no OP drama, a non-manho H, and an h with a spine? Sign me up! I liked this story. The MCs both had some pretty terrible things happen to them, but it didn't them bitter at life. I could've done without their constant introspection and slight "poor ol' me" attitude, but those are minor quibbles. This was a little sappy, but it was sweet too. And unlike some reviewers who found an H who enjoys baking weird, I thought it was fun. His secret love of reality cooking shows was pretty cute, too.

There was no sex in this book. I appreciate that a lot. The alternating first person narratives surprisingly didn't bother me much. We got to see the MCs of the previous books and that was nice.

Safety was good.

Chance is sort of envious of the warmth his brother Sam's home exudes. That's why he's over there every morning to cook breakfast. Sam and his love make their house a home and Chance likes being surrounded by that warmth. Is it possible for him to ever experience the love he sees between them? He had it at one time, but since he lost it he's been alone, and he isn't sure he'll ever find that kind of love again. Then he meets Mike (Michaela) and her adorable son, and suddenly his life is warming up again.

But Mike's only in Chance's small town for a job, a job she desperately needs, then she's gone. Can Chance take a chance at love with someone who will end up leaving? Will Mike allow Chance into her and her son's life? Is she sure she wants to open herself up to love again after the last time she experienced love and it bit her in the ass?

Love Redefined is one of those stories that's so well-told that you fall into the characters' lives right with them. It's both heartwarming and heart tugging, with richly detailed small town descriptions and even better characterization. Although it's the first of this series I've read, I had no trouble following along and falling in love with Chance and Mike, especially with Chance. Can't wait for more Kings Grove.

Stars: 3.5

This story reminded me of a classic Hallmark movie. It was cute in parts, maybe a little bit of light drama sprinkled in, the setting was in a small town in the mountains where one of the main characters lives and the other one visits and ends up moving there.

The storyline is very cute, and even though this book is part of a series, it can definitely be read as a stand-alone. It all revolves around Chance Palmer, hottest bachelor in Kings Grove. He has moved back after the death of his fiancée and is not really sure of where his life is going now. He ends up meeting Michaela (Mike) Grayson through a business dealing. She has a son, Finn, and comes with some baggage from her former relationship.

In spite of loving the characters and appreciating the story, I did have some moments where I was just scratching my head trying to figure out what I was reading. Chance comes across as super domesticated, almost to the point where I started questioning his masculinity. When he baked some cookies for this other dude in town to cheer him up, I blinked a lot because I was just not getting it. I told about it to my bff and she said, you take the guy some beer and pizza, you don’t bake him cookies. I have to agree.

I also got a little confused about when did Chance and Michaela actually had time to fall in love. By my calculations, they had about four encounters, max. It could also be that I missed something just because I did lose my patience with the story couple of times and I’m not sure if I read every single word.

All in all, cute story, no heat at all. And again, if you love Hallmark movies, this is the perfect book for you :)

Book 3 in the Kings Grove series and each can be read as a standalone. Loved Chance and Michaela’s story. Due to them both suffering pain and losses in their previous relationships, they weren’t really looking for love but love had other plans for them. The chemistry between them was so good. Loved watching them get through the past hurt and find love again. Great story and I can’t wait to read what is next in this series.

I read an early review copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

I've enjoyed all of the Kings Grove series so far, but this one is my favorite! This book focused on the story of Chance Palmer and Mike (aka Michaela) Grayson. In the first two books there were brief mentions of Chance, enough so that I thought I had a certain image of him in my mind (much like how the citizens of Kings Grove thought of him), but it turns out there is way more to Chance than just a handsome face. I really enjoyed hearing more about Chance's past and seeing his relationship develop with Mike (and her son, Finn) - especially where both Chance and Mike had some hardships in their past. I'm looking forward to the next book to read about Cam's story! I received an ARC of this book from the author - my opinions are my own.

Chance and Mike are great characters as well as her son. I loved getting to know them and follow along on this journey. It was a pleasant read. I liked the story but I did find it easy to put down. I never got emotionally involved with the characters.

Love Redefined by Delancey Stewart
“Finding a new kind of love, 5 stars”

If you’ve read any of the Kings Grove stories you know who Chance is and he’s always been sort of a mystery when it comes to his love life. To some its obvious he’s been hurt but no one knows what happened until now, and only a few know. Love Redefined is his story unraveling and coming back together. At times its heart wrenching and then it pulls you back together. He never expected to meet Michaela (a.k.a Mike) but now he can’t imagine his life without her or her son.
Mike’s life has been a disaster for the last couple of years. She holds it all together for her son with an iron will. Leaving her to be a slight control freak, only now that control she had is being threatened. She needs her next job to pan out and if it doesn’t everything could change, and she doesn’t like change. When Chance comes into her life it alters the balance even more. Will she get the guy in the end or will her past prevent it from happening?
In Love Redefined there is a ton of healing. Chance and Mike both must get over and let go of the past before they can be together, and sometimes that’s easier to say than do. The main thing is they had each other while healing. I loved how Chance totally fell for her son immediately and how we really witnessed him transform.
If you like a feel good second chance at love kind of story, Love Redefined is one for you.

I loved this 3rd book in the Kings Grove series. This story is about Chance, the incredibly handsome older brother in the Palmer Construction company. I love the small town and the characters. Is there room in his heart and big house for new love? I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Book 3 in the Kings Grove series is another winner! In this book, Chance is the star. His story is just as great as the first two. I was glad to finally learn more about him. Delancey Stewart has created such an interesting universe in this series and I can’t wait to read the fourth one.

Losing the love of his life wasn't easy for Chance Palmer, but now he's ready to find love again. However, first he needs to convince Michaela 'Mike' Grayson that building a resort in Kings Grove would be a fantastic idea. Will Chance be able to convince Michaela to take a chance on him both personally and professionally or will the wounds of their pasts keep them from ever getting another chance at forever?

Ms. Stewart's Kings Grove series is such a wonderful series, and this story was a fantastic addition to it. Really, everything about it -- the charismatic characters; the entertaining dialogue and the fast-paced plot -- drew me in and had me turning the pages quickly, determined to discover what obstacles these two would face to be together. Would Chance be able to win Michaela over, especially since she's been through so much with what happened in her last relationship?

The way this story had me smiling because the hero is a good brother and I loved the teasing banter between Chance and his brother that shows they're close. Yet, it was from the moment the hero and heroine come face-to-face for the first time in this story where things get really interesting, as there's a slight misunderstanding between the pair, but I liked how hard the hero works to convince the heroine that Kings Grove is the right place to build one of the resorts for the company she works for.

As for the dialogue, it was intense due to the main characters back stories, especially that of the heroine, as she's been through so much with what her ex put her through in the past and is still putting her through now. Yet, she's resilient, courageous, a good mother and I liked how determined she was to prove herself when it came to her job. I also like the decisions she makes throughout this story, even though her ex didn't make things easy for her. While the hero, he's been through so much too, and to give his heart to another woman is something he never thought he'd do. Not when he was so in love with the last woman he was with and then lost. I also liked how he's managed to move forward with his life. He's full of confidence, charm and I liked how determined he was to win Michaela over because she's the first woman that's interested him since he lost the woman he loved. Yet, what I liked most of all was the growing bond between the hero and the heroine's son. It was adorable because the little boy needs someone like Chance. Someone that treats him like a kid and doesn't get frustrated with him like someone else in the kid's life.

Overall, Ms. Stewart has delivered a delightful and charming read in this book where the chemistry between this couple was intense; the romance was delightful and had me glad that Michaela took a chance on the hero; and the ending had me loving the hero's determination to win the heroine's heart. Then again, I also liked the decision the heroine made in order to show Chance that she wants a life with him. It was time she started doing things that she wanted and were good for her and her son and not accommodate to what everyone else wanted of her. However, it was the epilogue that wrapped this story up wonderfully, as the hero wants the heroine forever and isn't above using a very public gathering to get what he wants. I would recommend Love Redefined by Delancey Stewart, if you enjoy second chance romances or books by authors Bella Andre, Susan Mallery, Jill Shalvis and Melody Grace.

"I wanted to do that. I've thought about kissing you since we met. And now that it's out of the way, maybe I'll be able to focus on work." Michaela (Mike) made that statement, but didn't believe it for a moment. She has come to town to consider renovating King Grove's Inn into a luxury resort. She got more than she bargained for when she met the local contractor, Chance Palmer. Who was the recipient of above stated kiss.

Chance Palmer is King Grove's golden boy. But he has had a heartbreak that most do not know about. Now that his brother has found happiness with his new fiancé, Chance feels even more lost and lonely. Enter Mike. When his meeting is with Mike, he had no idea he was meeting with a beautiful, charming and smart woman!

Mike has a lot on the line with her job and this project. Her personal life is a mess and her job is at stake. Chance knows what he feels, and is willing to do what it takes to keep Mike and her son, Finn, in his life. Life is beginning to be as Chance has always wanted. And he is willing to fight for all of it.

Delancey Stewart's King Grove series continues to pull me in and I can't wait for Cameron's story!

Chance and his brother own a construction company in King’s Grove, Northern California. Michaela/Mike had a meeting with Chance to discuss a resort her company was thinking of developing in that area. She had to leave the meeting early so Chance travelled to her office to show her new plans. Mike had an 8 year old son, her former husband had just gotten out of jail for embezzlement and she worked at her ex father-in-law’s business so her life was pretty complicated at the time. Chance’s fiancé had died in an accident 2 years ago and he was still recovering from her loss. Despite their difficulties Chance and Mike were attracted to each other but neither was sure if they were ready for a relationship. Would Mike survive a competition for her job with her ex-husband? Would Chance be able to move on from his fiancé’s death? Would Chance and Mike find love and a new beginning in their lives?

I thoroughly enjoyed this story and read how the characters developed and were able to move on in their lives. I loved the story and highly recommend reading this book.

Delancey Stewart just has a way with story telling. This story is the third in her King’s Grove series, but it is a stand alone novel. I haven’t actually read the other books in the series, and I was able to fully enjoy this book. Now that I have finished it, I am excited to read the previous books as I think I will definitely get more information on the backgrounds of the characters.

If you’re looking for a story with wonderfully developed characters who are making their way through life and the many struggles and joys it can bring, look no further. I connected to each character and I was quickly invested in their stories. This was an enjoyable read with just the right mix of drama, humor, tragedy, and romance. I highly recommend it!

I received a copy of this novel in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, Delancey!

It is currently 3 AM, and with my exhaustion from the day, I have been gradually fading into unconciousness. Reading Love Redefined has removed all other stressors from my day to the point where I was literally falling asleep with a smile on my face. In the end, I held out and read to "The End" It was so worth it. I loved this book. I loved seeing Chance in a new way. I fell in love with Kings Grove 2 books ago and I have fallen even farther with Chance and Michaela's story. I am impatiently waiting for book 4, so impatient.
I would highly recommend this book, this series, this author.
Happy reading!

Michaela Grayson has come to town to check out a possible luxury resort location involving renovating King Grove's Inn. She meets a local contractor, Chance Palmer. Chance has had a bad incident in his life he keeps mostly to himself. Yet he is ready to finally settle down if he can find someone he can love. Meeting the lovely and intelligent Michaela just may be what he is looking for.

Although her life is in chaos and her job in jeopardy, Michaela and her son, Finn, become important to Chance, and he wants them both in his life, no matter what he has to do to convince them to stay. Each of them had issues to get through that made them hold back from a new relationship. Can they together overcome the past and make a new future for themselves as a family?

This is a very engaging second chance at love romance. The storyline focuses on Chance Palmer and Michaela (Mike) Grayson. These are complex characters that have both been wounded before and have the emotional scars and baggage to prove it. A well written read that touches your heart as these two struggle past hurts, their fears and their willingness to open up and risk their hearts again. A wonderful book and great addition to this series. This is my completely honest, voluntary review.

I haven't read any of the other books in this series but after reading this one I will have to go back and do that. I enjoyed reading the story of Chance and Mike. I felt bad for Mike. She had a lot to deal with when it came to her ex. Thankfully it all worked out in the end. It was nice for Chance to finally move on and keep his promise to his deceased fiancee. He deserved to be happy in the end too.

Stewart will have you feeling joy and despair and every feeling in between as you read this story. Chance, Michaela and Finn all have souls that need repairing and I love how this book takes you through it all. Among the majesty of the towering sequoias, you feel the peace and beauty the characters are experiencing as the relationship builds between Mike and Chance. This journey is worth taking.

I really enjoyed the story of Michaela and Chance. Of course Michaela’s son Finn is what pushed my book rating to 5 stars. I love the addition of a cute kid In a story. I also liked that there was a bit of angst with Finn’s father, but it wasn’t an overwhelming part of the book.

I would recommend this book.

A great addition to the series. A touching story, from beginning to end. Both Chance and Michaela (Mike) had some painful pasts, but together they were able to face their fears and move forward. I love the way Delancey Stewart is able to make the characters connect so seamlessly. Great read!

What a wonderful story. It made me chuckle in places, cry in others and really enjoy it overall. The story featured Michaela and Chance with a side of Finn (Michaela's 8 year old boy). The characters were great and their chemistry was off the charts. Chance thought he had had his chance and lost it when his fiance died. But fate had other plans for him. You will enjoy every page of this book.

Every time I read a Kings Grove novel, I just want to drop everything and move there. The town and scenery is written so well that I can close my eyes and imagine myself there. Chance and Michaela (Mike) have both been through hardships of their own and it’s so wonderful how they found each other and helped each other and loved each other.

I’m totally in love with this little mountain town and it’s group of people.

Chance is one of the good guys that you can’t help think has it all. The good looks, charm and a good job. The only thing missing is a family. Hiding his true feelings he suffered in silence for years.

When he meet Mike the single mother of a little boy, the attraction is instant and so strong they can’t help but fall in love.

Due to their situation both fight their feelings but if love is meant to happen it’s inevitable.

I couldn’t devour this sweet, second chance, small town romance fast enough and if you already have read the two first books in this series you’ll feel right at home.
