As a cafe, we need espresso scales that are consistent and reliable. We have owned multiple scales from Brewista (the oldest one, around three years old now has lasted the longest). We purchased this one last June to replace one that had been submerged in water. Knowing these scales aren’t waterproof, we were extremely careful to not get water or coffee on them. Within one month, this scale started jumping in weight randomly, the buttons wouldn’t work (wouldn’t tare or turn the timer on, mode setting didn’t matter) and it was generally unreliable. We filled out a warranty claim with no response. Fast forward a couple of months and it seemed to work randomly, until two months ago, it died completely. It will not turn on, charge, etc. We reached out again with no response from the company. We will continue to try and contact the company, but it seems like all of our requests are being ignored.

If you are a cafe, just shell out the extra $$$ for an Acaia. The build and design quality is so much higher and their customer service has gone above and beyond when we had issues. It can feel like a big expense, but considering how many of these we have gone through, we would’ve saved money if we had just purchased an Acaia to begin with.

Unbelievably it’s just turned off while I was pouring in a V60 without any previous warning, however I could realize it was related to low battery so I plugged in to my common usb c charger but nothing happened.
I browsed for this issue and found several reports with same behavior and no solution so far, most of them in a commercial environment but also at home. Presumably it’s about heat and steam affecting the scale but I wonder: how a scale made for espresso would not be in contact with heat or steam?
It does not make sense to me.
