Sustainably Built Acoustic-electric Guitar with a Rarely Seen Tonewood

At first glance, Breedlove's Oregon Concert CE is an especially beautiful guitar. But that's not all this acoustic-electric has going for it. The Oregon Concert CE is made with solid myrtlewood for the top, back, and sides. When played, myrtlewood produces a sound that blends the best of rosewood, maple, and mahogany into one extraordinarily beautiful tone. Complete with an easy-playing satin-finished neck, the Oregon Concert CE can handle anything from comfortable chording to frenetic lead lines. And when you're gigging, the LR Baggs Element electronics will wow your listeners with lifelike sound. The Breedlove Oregon Concert CE's responsibly harvested tonewoods and excellent craftsmanship make this a must-have for any acoustic enthusiast.

Myrtlewood: Breedlove's signature tonewood

Myrtlewood might not be a tonewood that you’re familiar with, but let us assure you that it’s a tonewood you won’t want to stop talking about. Native to the coasts along the Pacific Northwest, myrtlewood (Umbellularia Californica) combines tonal elements rarely seen among American hardwoods. It blends the warmth of rosewood, the lively midrange of mahogany, and the bright treble response of maple into a single tonewood! Depending on your playing style, you’ll bring out different elements for a sound that’s all your own. And due to the constantly shifting winds where the trees grow, each set of myrtlewood showcases a unique grain pattern, making every myrtlewood guitar a one-of-a-kind creation. When you open the case for the first time, you’ll get a Guitar Portrait that calls out your guitar’s specifics from its weight and thickness to where the tonewoods were sourced.

Hand-voiced for uncompromising performance

Ask any guitar player at Sweetwater what sets one guitar apart from the other, and they’ll probably say one word: performance. With Breedlove, you’ll experience a level of performance and sonic consistency that are hard to find anywhere else. How do they accomplish such a feat? By employing their state-of-the-art Sound Optimization process and hand-voicing for each guitar they build in Bend, Oregon. It all begins with sanding each tonewood until it reaches a weight that brings out the best possible sound (most builders sand to a uniform thickness). After the braces are attached, highly skilled luthiers use soft felt mallets, microphones, and specialized computer software to analyze the frequency response of the top and back. From here, the same luthier voices the bracing by hand, targeting specific frequencies along the way.

By combining technological innovation with the art and craft of lutherie, Breedlove ensures that each one of their instruments performs at its full potential. They fully believe in their Sound Optimization process. In fact, no instrument will leave their factory until it reaches its peak performance, even if that means they carve on the bracing through the soundhole. And for you, the player, it means that your Breedlove will come alive in your hands the second you play your first note. From the quietest fingerpicking to the loudest flatpicking, you get access to an incredible dynamic range — all without losing definition and note separation. Strum your final chord, and the guitar will reward you with long, rich sustain. If you’re not entirely sold yet, you will be when you pick it up.

The Breedlove Tonewood Certification Program

Part of being a responsible company is knowing where your stock comes from and documenting it properly. That’s why Breedlove has created their revolutionary Tonewood Certification Program. Through extensive documentation and cooperation with local authorities and mill workers, Breedlove can tell you exactly where the wood on your guitar grew and how it was harvested. That’s just another way Breedlove shows their eco-conscious commitment.

Breedlove: guitars you can feel good about

From the company's beginning in 1990, Breedlove has focused a lot of their efforts on reducing their impact on the planet without compromising the quality of their instruments. Their radical approach to sustainability led them to create their Tonewood Certification Program and commit to visit each location where their timber is harvested to ensure that their sustainability standards are met. The company has introduced player-centered innovations, including top-loading bridges, custom voicings, and unique neck profiles. From the Discovery to the Legacy, each and every Breedlove is made with an uncompromising dedication to quality sound, flawless workmanship, and environmental sustainability. Buying a Breedlove is much more than purchasing a top-notch acoustic guitar — it’s buying a guitar that you can feel good about.

Full and Mellow

I bought my Oregon Myrtlewood Concert well over a year ago (as of this writing). Truly, I could not be happier.

I did look at other major American guitars. While they played really well, the tone/sound was too 'bright', which does not appeal to me. Over the past year, the sound has become 'fuller' and 'mellower' (if that makes sense). Also, love the maple neck.

Since purchasing, I have had the action lowered; I also replaced the strings with Elixir Phosphors.

(Missing from the 'family' picture is an Eastman 12-string.)

My "Bucket List" Acoustic

I had watched numerous videos on various American made acoustic guitars. I knew what I was comfortable spending. I wanted to try the exact guitar I would be taking home. My sales engineer, Delvin Wolf, asked me to list the exact serial number for the models I wanted to audition. I told Delvin I was going to make the 2.5 hour drive from my home to Sweetwater and I was leaving with my bucket list acoustic guitar as I will soon be 64 years old. My list was included this Breedlove, a Martin D 18, A very nice Larrivee (became my second choice) and a Taylor 322ce. The Taylor was eliminated eliminated because the action was too high but sounded nice). I tried to approach the audition of these guitars with an open mind. All were built extremely well as you would expect for an American made instrument. I inspected each guitar closely for any defects and found none. I did visually see the Taylor's action was high. Playing it confirmed that. The Martin's sound, when compared to the Breedlove and/or the Larrivee, seemed very focused, it was very nice but didn't seem as "lively" to me. It's was more reigned in, is the only way I can put it. Fast forward to today, 2 days post purchase. I love this Breedlove guitar, it has a pure, lively sound. Very articulate. It has low action but not too low. The ebony fret-board plays effortlessly. Plugged it sounds great with the LR Baggs system installed and unplugged the notes play clear, chords bloom with articulation like I've never experienced. It is a beautiful piece of American craftsmanship. The Myrtle Wood is gorgeous. The tone produced by the Myrtle Wood is beautiful and distinct. I love the service Sweetwater affords to all of its customers. I truly feel Sweetwater employees go above and beyond and they make me feel as though they value me as a customer, they want me (you) to have a truly great buying experience. I have been playing guitar more than 40 years and I have dealt with Delvin and Sweetwater exclusively for about 14 years and that will continue.

Beyond happy with this guitar

Loving the sound of Myrtlewood from this guitar. So rich. So deep. So clear. All the good things we want to hear from a guitar. Such a perfect playing guitar and came tuned and setup. Breedlove has it figured out. Josh helped me get the order placed yesterday and today, the very next day, I'm playing my brand new Oregon Myrtlewood. Cheers!

A work of art!

This is an amazing guitar. I took a leap to go with Breedlove as I planned on a Martin, perhaps a Taylor or maybe even a top of the line Yamaha. So my sales engineer, Kevin helped me and guided me through all the various models. My wife fell in love with a Breedlove! What, never heard of them, but they do
Make in USA, Oregon no less. So I ask Kevin, he tells me they're right up there with Taylor and Martin. Wow, so do homework and everything I see is positive. So I pull the trigger on this gorgeous myrtle wood concert. I was a little worried till it got here. After 24 hours I opened the case to a beautiful guitar. Playing it was a joy. Such a rich warm sound. I am a big acoustic mahogany guitar lover for the warm sound. I must say this beautiful myrtle wood has about the best tones I have ever heard. If you're looking into a Breedlove understand this is a guitar that in my opinion is equal to the sound and quality of a Taylor or even a Martin. Everything was simply perfect the frets, fretboard, neck, tuners, finish I could go on but you get the picture.

Pretty much perfect!

So ordered this for my wife so I could get my Gibson 339 back. When she was a young thing she used to play a huge Martin. She loved that deep warm sound and being young she could handle the size. Would not consider anyone but Sweetwater to purchase. She looked at everything and finally settled on the Breedlove against my comments of never hearing of this guitar. She wanted extra light strings and a set up. Thanks to Kevin, our sales engineer everything went very smoothly. The guitar arrived in perfect condition and is absolutely beautiful! It plays so warmly and while I was against it these Elixer Polyweb strings are fabulous and so warm sounding. Wife is thrilled and I must say this guitar is just about perfect. The neck is super comfortable and love how playable it is. Really easy to fret and barre chords are a breeze! The only negative I found was they only did the top in gloss and back and sides are just satin gloss. It would have been a work of art in all gloss! Plenty loud for strumming and really easy to pick. In my humble opinion this guitar is right up there with Taylor and Martin. Never heard of this company but they sure make darn good guitars. Sorry for such a long winded review but wanted to help folks who may consider purchasing a Breedlove guitar.
