Breaking Down Her Walls Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 224 ratings

Leaving is what Julia Finch does best.

When a meeting with her birth parents goes horribly wrong, Julia escapes on a hastily planned road trip and winds up breaking down in a Colorado town so small the cows outnumber the people. Completely out of her element, she takes a temporary job as a ranch hand at Bennett Ranch. She only has to survive long enough to get her car fixed, and then she’s out of there for good.

Her bad luck continues when she meets the ranch owner, Elena Bennett. Elena is unhappy, abrasive, and annoyingly breathtaking. But the longer Julia stays, the more the ranch starts to feel like home, and her feelings for Elena become impossible to ignore. She’s spent years building her defenses high and running from her past. Could a love worth staying for be the key to breaking down her walls?

About the Author

Erin Zak grew up on the Western Slope of Colorado in a town with a population of 2,500, a solitary Subway, and one stoplight. She started writing at a young age and has always had a very active imagination. Erin later transplanted to Indiana where she attended college, started writing a book, and had dreams of one day actually finding the courage to try to get it published.

Erin now resides in Florida, away from the snow and cold, near the Gulf Coast with her family. She enjoys the sun, sand, writing, and spoiling her cocker spaniel, Hanna. When she’s not writing, she’s obsessively collecting Star Wars memorabilia, planning the next trip to Disney World, or whipping up something delicious to eat in the kitchen.

This is possibly THE most sensual (not erotic, but sensual) book I've ever read. Rarely do I fall for a character in a book, but Elena has my heart. Erin Zak's words, coming out of her mouth were the sexiest things I've read in a long time, maybe ever. Zak is so good at writing the slow burn that I (who doesn't really care for erotica) am completely hooked on this character!

The story is a good one, with a good premise and, as I'm finding out about this author, well-drawn peripheral characters. Elena owns a ranch in Colorado and Julia ends up there to work off a debt. Elena and Julia clash like opposites do, but there are stories and histories that are the reasons for this clash. As they butt heads, their feelings and insecurities become more evident. They both have a choice to make: Let the histories and baggage stand in their way, or get over, around or through them to a happy ending.

You should all read this book! It's really a great story!

Really enjoyed this story I fell in love with the MC but felt like I was cheated on near the end I felt the anxiety of it and was pissed and hurt and betrayed but it all worked out in the end

Yep, one can surely find love in the most unexpected places--just ask Julia! She has run away from life and from love. She never had much of either. Elena has lost love several times and has hardened herself to any more of it. I really liked how Julia stepped right up at the ranch and ended up surprising herself. It was so sweet to see this relationship unfold because neither of them wanted it. I totally enjoyed this book. So much in fact, that I immediately bought another book by this author. She is very good at telling a story. Many thanks to Erin Zak for a really wonderful book.

Do not start this book if you have things that you must do in a timely manner. I have to say that this is one of the best stories I've ever read. The characters were spot on perfect, especially Leia. I don't like spoilers so I won't leave you any. Just please do yourself a favor and go read this book. You will not regret it.

I really enjoyed this story. Both Julia and Elena are broken but when they meet, they don't realize that they've met the answer to their dreams.

This book has wonderful descriptions of what life is like on a ranch. A very well told story and the sex scenes were very well described and steamy. However the last bit of the book was a little difficult to understand because the conflict I think could have been better executed or done differently entirely. This is an age gap romance, which I am not that fond of, but it didn't bother me so much in this book because how well the book was written and not made a big deal of or mentioned a bunch.

This is my absolute favourite book, and I’ve read more amazing books that I can name over the past year since discovering lesfic. I have read it 3 times, and have wanted to write a review for it since the first time and just didn’t feel like I had the words to give it justice. I also couldn’t even begin to explain how or why it became my favourite because there isn’t a specific reason aside from the story just stuck with me and I’ve never forgotten a moment of it. The best way to describe it is by comparing it to a favourite movie that you want to watch over and over and you never get sick of it. I will never get tired of this story. The relationships between all the characters and the horses were just so pure, and I could fully picture the ranch and the town as if I were walking there myself. Erin is an amazing writer (I have read and purchased all of her books) and I highly recommend this and all of her other works to anyone looking for truly enjoyable stories.

This was awesome.

I loved everything about this story, from the characters to the plot, and the morals and lessons it held. It was my first book by Erin Zak and certainly won’t be my last. She has a very unique, easy, writing style and storytelling ability.

Julia was a brilliantly insecure character who had to learn to accept help, follow her heart, and break down her walls, while dealing with a similar character in Elena, the tough, brokenhearted rancher who just stole my heart along with Julia’s.

The story was passionate but grounding, tackling real issues about defensive, closed off characters who run, or hide because of past experiences with love. There was so much to be learned from Julia, Elena, and ranch life that I fell in love with the very idea of the life they were leading in this story. Wise friends also help both of them to come to terms with their feelings, because both characters fall into the trap of being ruled by their emotions.

As with all romance, this has its sweet moments, its funny bits, tension, drama, pasts, exes, and some passion that was amazing!!!

I loved the style it was written in, that tell and narrate where you understand clearly what is going on. It worked well with the storyline, capturing enough of the characters feelings without overcomplicating it, and providing some narrator discrepancies that meant it was open to the reader to interpret if what was being described as a thought or a feeling was correct.

Julia and Elena’s relationship was slow burn, filled with angst, drama, and occasional heartache but that’s what made the story so enjoyable. It was realistic, romantic, and cosy, making me really feel as if I were included in the intimate group the story focused on, and feeling like I belonged at the ranch too. Very enjoyable, and highly recommended. I look forward to reading more from Erin Zak!

What a beautiful rendition! Emotive, well thought about characters you start to relate to. Passionate in a make believe, toe-curling, breathtaking way.
And the acknowledgment of
“For anyone who has felt worthless… You’re worth it. You’re always worth it.” says it all.
Not many books , I’ve finished & started again!
Erin Zak - take a bow!
And please write more.... it’s so addictive and fulfilling & hope to many who think they are worthless. <3
