2 Kennedy and Linc Stars
This is my own opinion and just to say , lots of people clearly have really enjoyed this series. Unfortunately , this book didn't work out so well for me. There is a series , each book focusing on a different couple and I picked this one up out of order which is down to me. However, even though I was a bit confused at some of the turns in the story , I don't think my lack of enjoyment was all down to my not reading them in order. This book has a very strong theme of domestic abuse and significant physical abuse by a man towards more than one woman (including the heroine, Kennedy).
Initially I thought I would enjoy it but I couldn't connect with either H/h . There is a really sad backstory for both of them but honestly, I found all the dark themes a little overwhelming and perhaps if we were not in the Covid times that we are in , I might have been a bit more receptive to such a heavy book. Also, the ghosts of both H/h's siblings kept popping up and I just couldn't maintain my interest then.

Fans of Lani Lynn Vale will LOVE Boots on the Ground by April Canavan! Hot, protective cops, funny secondary characters, and a good plotline!
Kennedy and Lincoln were in love. Then, he dropped her with no explanation. Kennedy was crushed and ended up in the arms of a Royal jerk. Everyone knows Kennedy and Linc belong together, including Kennedy and Linc, but Linc has baggage from him time in the military and feels he can't give Kennedy the life she wants. God save us from men who think they know what's best, right?
Linc has PTSD from his time in the military, and Kennedy has PTSD from her previous relationships. Both have kept this information totally private but finally begin to open up. I liked seeing them both finally admit there is no escaping what is clear-they are miserable without each other. There is some ex drama (Kennedy's) that adds some tension; it isn't that Kennedy would ever get back with him, its that he is a class A weasel and troublemaker.
Boots on the Ground delivers lovable characters (both main and secondary), a varied plot that feels more like a normal person's life, and gives readers a range of emotions. If you like military romance, police romance, or just plain small town romance, Boots on the Ground is perfect!

This is my #1 read for 2021! It has everything: second chance, suspense, redemption, survival, taking back one’s power, forgiveness, laughter, and the power of love. I am not a crier when it comes to books, but I was a sobbing mess.
I wanted to crawl into this book and live here. I have the best book hangover & I regret NOTHING. Linc & Kennedy’s love is something special and was an honor to witness. Theirs is truly a love for the ages. Annnnd the character who stole the show I didn’t see coming.... Nox! That boy is something special and I feel head over heels in love with him.
Don’t miss out on this book! If you do, you will be sorry that you did! April Canavan shows why she is a master storyteller and why she dominates in this genre.

Wow was this an amazing read! From page one I was Hooked. Kennedy is a 911 dispatcher and a huge taco fan. He father is the chief of police and her brother is a officer. she has always been in love with one man but when she thought it would never happen she had other relationships. Having major emotional baggage is never easy. Lincoln went into the service as a man in love. Years later he is a mess and in denial about what he needs in his life. Can two broken people make each other whole again? This was a great read with many different stories interwoven into this amazing book. This book was truly an amazing journey. I am Definitely looking forward to the next book in the series.

This is the first story I have read by this author and I definitely, definitely will be checking out more of her work. The way she develops her characters and the way she tells Lincoln and Kennedy’s story captivated me. Kennedy works as a dispatcher and her ex is still causing trouble for her and making her life unbearable. Linc doesn’t think he’s good enough for her, but he will give it his all. This is a an emotionally charged story that had me in tears and also laughing my a$$ off. What will two people determined to protect each other be forced to do to protect those they love?

Holy cow!! This book is absolutely amazing...
Linc and Kennedy are one of my favorite couples that I have read... Their love is something you can't deny and their chemistry is FIRE!! The way Linc cares and loves Kennedy is something that you can see instantly and will make any woman swoon!
Kennedy has her own demons and struggles but the way she leans on Linc shows how their connection is so strong.
This story had me so wrapped into it and the characters I love!! This story is very well written and keeps you entertained and at the edge of your seat...
On the bonus side you get to see all the characters from the previous books that you love!!

This book....so far this series just makes me want to squish the kindle to my chest and hug it to death. This was intense from the beginning to end in such an amazing way...and it just hooked me. I really loved the silliness that pops up throughout. These books have all the big feels, ugly snot bubble crying, smart ass remarks, and 🥴🥴🥴🤫🤫
Who doesn't love a story where the women have the biggest balls and take no shit, no matter their hardships. And the sexy men help 🤭🤗🤫🥴

Kennedy and Linc can't deny their feelings after 6 years apart. The past tries to separate them, but the past doesn't have that kind of power, if you don't give it. Really good book.

Talk about some intense stuff...WOW! Suspense ~ love ~ action ~ family ~ taking back ones life ~ abuse ~ murder. Linc’s love for Kennedy is one for the ages I mean name one man other than him who could do what he did or didn’t do for SIX plus years!! I love Linc’s character he is flawed but loves deeply. Kennedy is an amazing character too and what she went through and still went through was rough. I’m glad she did what she did. Those two are just awesome together! Shout out to all the Marines!! Shout out to all the military, police, fire department, paramedics and hospital staffs. I want to read more!

This book was absolutely amazing. Linc and Kennedy loved each before war. After war, and the death of his brother, Linc made the decision to push her away. Their story is captivating and the twists within the pages will break your heart at times. Worth reading and rereading.

Kennedy and Lincoln were in love until he left her without a warning. Kennedy has tried to move on with a guy that isn't good for her. She still can't get over Lincoln. Lincoln has trauma from the military and feels he can't give Kennedy what she deserves in life. He is a hot cop but thinks too much. Kennedy and Lincoln belong together and nothing will keep them apart. A good read.

My heart was broken because I felt the characters struggles but I am a sucker for a second chance romance and that's exactly what I get. The characters have amazing chemistry and I kept rooting for them to figure it out and make it work.

However her knight and tarnished armor showed up to help deal with her belligerent ex who was still trying to rule her life all awhile his stuck up fiance watched.
Linc knew some people would totally get the wrong idea by his current under cover operation; but he needed to make sure she was okay and this was the only thing he could think of.
To bad he knew he was to damaged for someone as wonderful and perfect like her.
Nevertheless she knew all about Linc's little side operation and yeah it did help.
She finally caught a glimpse of him and Linc was totally armor-less and Kennedy knew without a shadow of doubt this had to be the reason why he was determined to keep her at arms-length.
Sometimes unforeseen incidents can happen that tend to remind us just how fragile life truly is.
No he wasn't going to keep making the same mistakes over and over again nope this time around he was totally going to be open and honest about his feelings.
Nothing terrified her more then the thought of losing those who mattered the most by revealing the ugliest moments in her life however she knew deep down she couldn't hide anymore.
Kennedy should have none her unstable ex-fiance would show up like a bad penny; because he couldn't handle the fact she was the one that got away.
So now all she had to do was hang on because the Calvary would be on its way with her man leading the charge.....

Holy crap on a cracker!! This book needs more than 5 stars, that's how freakin' AWEMAZING it is!! Boots on the Ground is Kennedy and Lincoln's story and what a roller coaster ride it is. Kennedy and Linc have had feelings for each other for a long ass time, but both have trauma from the past that they are dealing with...or not!! Linc is former military, now working in the Birch County PD, and he is suffering in silence from his last tour. Kennedy is a 911 dispatcher, and she too is dealing with trauma from an ex douche canoe who thought he was a "big man"....Linc won't allow himself to love Kennedy because he thinks he'll bring her nothing but hurt, Kennedy has tried to move on from Linc, but neither one have really been able to cause they are still drawn to each other. Everybody around them, friends, family are convinced that they belong together, even Kennedy's big brother who is also Linc's best friend is telling him not to be stupid and get with the program where Kennedy is concerned!! There is also the issue of Kennedy's ex, who thinks he can do whatever he wants and get away with it, he believes he's more important than what he is, and he scares Kennedy with his mere presence. Something happened to Kennedy in this relationship that she hasn't told anyone, and has no intention of doing so. Will Linc figure out that his life is so much better with Kennedy in it? Will Kennedy take back the power from the maggot she finally found the strength to leave behind? Will Lincoln and Kennedy find their way back to each other? Y'all are just gonna have to read this AWESOME book to find out!! I can't wait to read more of April's words, I need that fix!!! So thank you April for another amazing read with characters that I have fallen in love with, and root for!!

If I could give this more than five stars I would. This is the second book in the Birch Police Department Series. It can be read as a standalone but you will see characters from the previous books since they're all friends and family I’ve been waiting on Kennedy and Lincolns story since I read the prequel. These two broke my heart. You can tell they were meant for each other. You need this book in your life, its steamy and entertaining. The author has a way of writing that pulls you into the story making it hard to walk away. These are books that I will re-read when the series is done. I can't wait for book three!
Lincoln and Kennedy got together before Lincoln left for his first deployment with the Marines, you'll get more background on this if you read the prequel Whiskey Tango although its not necessary to enjoy this book. Promises and plans were made before he left. After Lincoln's twin died during their first deployment Lincoln had a hard time dealing with it and pushed Kennedy away. He blames himself for Danny's death because he followed Lincoln into the Marines. Lincoln felt he was too broken to subject Kennedy to all of his issues. April Canavan is a new author to me and Boots on the Ground is the second book of hers that I have read. I feel lucky to have stubbled upon April and her Birch Police Department series. The series revolves around of a group of Police Officers that work together and served in the military together. Boots on the Ground is Kennedy's and Lincoln's story. Kenney and Linc feel in-love with each other before Linc left for the military. Both promised that they would wait for each other but things have changed with what Linc has seen while serving as well as being the witness to one of the group's best-friends die. Years later, Kennedy is engaged to a cocky lawyer that has a habit of getting very rough with his significant other. After one such beating that Kennedy kept under wraps, she calls off the engagement but that doesn't go over too well with Royal. About this time, Linc has decided that he can't live without Kennedy even though he is haunted by his past. Soon and Kennedy and Lincoln find themselves in a happy existence until Royal threatens Kennedy.
I really enjoyed reading Kennedy's and Lincoln's book. I thought it was very relatable to real life (Kennedy loved tacos and wasn't afraid to eat her share at anytime; it is mentioned that she was a "curvey" normal sized woman). The chemistry of the characters was also off the charts HOT. I was really pulling for Lincoln and Kennedy to end-up together and finally get their HEA.

I thought Balls to the Wall, the first book in this news series by April Canavan was a seriously emotional story and I admit it had me reaching for my tissues a time or two. I also had an inkling that Kennedy and Linc's story could be another of those reads, but Boots on the Ground had me reaching for a whole box of those dam tissues. Once again Ms. Canavan broke me a little before beautifully putting me back together. Like a game of chess, this author maneuvered her characters around the board with procession.
My heart not only broke for all the suffering that Kennedy had endured but for Linc, whose brother died in his arms while serving oversea's, resulting in Linc returning a broken man and deciding that he didn't want Kennedy, the only woman he ever loved to be burdened with him. But all that did was set off a chain of events that lead Kennedy into a destructive relationship. For 6 years the pair have kept their distance. But that is all about to change!
April Canavan has stepped up and proved yet again that she is a great author, producing romance books of substance.

Boots on the Ground had me on the edge of my seat at times. Especially whenever Royal was part of the scene. Royal and Kennedy had been engaged, and if you read Balls to the Wall, then you know they were not good together. Boots on the Ground not only tells us what happened to Kennedy, it also shows us the PTSD that Linc is dealing with since his military days. Now of course the book also focuses on the relationship between Kennedy and Linc, and how they find their way back to each other. Then there is sweet little Nox. I fell for this kid in Balls to the Wall, and he just keeps charming me. He just seems like the sweetest kid, and you can tell he loves the people in his life. I really loved how Nox came up with the idea for Kennedy's tattoo. I would love it if April Canavan shared an image of what she views the final piece as.

I already LOVE this series so much, so I'll be in serious withdrawals when the awesome April Canavan moves on to another series (though I'm positive I'll be just as addicted then as well). Kennedy is a heroine who hasn't had the best luck in her personal life, and nowadays, she just wants to eat her tacos in peace & hang out with her favorite nephew LOL! The love of her life walked away from her breaking her heart, which left her ending up in a toxic relationship along the way as she tried to move on. Life really doesn't take it easy on her, but finally enough mean hits had Linc finally realizing that he can't be without her anymore, so they're finally back on the journey they should have always been on. The heat they generate is amazing, the love they have for each other is potent, and his protective gene is strong when it comes to her. Life couldn't play nice though, so there are twists coming that had me dropping loud f-bombs quite a bit. So, in order to see how it all plays out, you'll have to hit those one click buttons because you seriously don't want to miss out! HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

This book is not for the fainthearted, as the descriptions on some of the pages will churn your stomach. However, there are wonderful romantic moments, a cute know-it-all kid, a beautiful camaraderie between friends and family, engaging banter and an intense storyline that will keep you engrossed. I highly recommend this book and can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

WOW! So much emotion, so much love as Kennedy Townsend and Lincoln Hayes try to move on from a past that they can’t change. When Linc left for the military, he wanted Kennedy to wait for him, but what he saw during his deployment has changed him. He now wants someone better for her and he doesn’t believe that he is that man. Kennedy waited for Linc, for years, but he continued to push her away. She almost married another man, but was left hurt and broken. Linc knows the man she almost married hurt her, but she won’t speak about it. Kennedy comes from a law enforcement family and is a 911 dispatcher at the station where Linc is assigned. He is always watching out for her and as Nox says “he has her six”. A totally absorbing story as slowly Linc and Kennedy try to work things out while danger stalks her. I loved the close-knit family and the author’s creative (and humorous) writing that brings such authenticity to her characters (love of tacos; 4 bottles – lol). Boots On The Ground (Birch Police Department Book 2) by April Canavan is a great former military, law enforcement, second chance romance. Linc and Kennedy knew they were meant to be together years ago. Deployment and tragedy, along with the resulting trauma, caused Linc to withdraw and reject Kennedy. In turn, Kennedy ends up in an abusive relationship, suffering trauma herself.
The plot of this book is so emotionally driven from both Linc and Kennedy’s perspectives, with their individual traumas at the forefront. While PTSD is a serious topic in normal times, it is even more timely at the moment. Current events of our world have created unprecedented traumatic situations for many. Trauma is all it’s forms is worthy of attention and I loved that it featured prominently here. I also appreciated Linc’s choice to work on getting better.
Overall, this book blends the emotional depth of characters with romance, suspense and danger to create a highly engaging and attention grabbing book including a long time coming, lighthearted and loving HEA.

Well I have been waiting to read this story since I read the prequel in an anthology. Not going to lie here, since then I became a fan of Aprils and will be reading through her books soon. So there are some trigger warnings so read at your own risk. I want to say that if I could give more than five stars I sure as heck would. Lets meed Linc and Kennedy. These two grew up together since they were kids. Kennedy is younger and also Linc's best friends little sister. Ohh I am liking where this is going right? Unfortunately Linc thinks he doesn't deserve her. He has been struggling since he came back from the war. It is heartbreaking to read. Then you have Kennedy who seems to lost herself at a young age. She has issues that she needs to get through. Lets not forget about the crazy ex she has. Her ex has that mentality that if I can't have you then no one can. Will Linc get out of his head and claim what is meant to be his? Will he step up and protect her? Will she finally break and make a move? We have a lot of intense moments. I mean I literally cried when I was reading. I went through a lot of emotions as well anxiety. Get ready to be gutted when you read this story. You will love it.

This is the 2nd book in this amazing series and is Linc and Kennedy’s journey. These two were in love and when Linc left for the military this changed him, and he broke it off with Kennedy. Now 6-years later they have been trying to avoid each other, and Kennedy is in a toxic relationship with a cocky lawyer who she is engaged to, and he is partial to using his fists on her. After one beating Kennedy snaps and ends the engagement which does not go down well. Linc is a broken man who is haunted by the past and is finally ready to admit he needs Kennedy back in his life. This is a well written emotional roller coaster which is intense, heartwrenching, and with danger, off the chart’s chemistry, witty banter, and is an entertaining read. I was totally enthralled throughout this riveting tale, and I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

Police romance , second chance!
I loved it! i think i might have loved it more then book one which i didn't think it was possible!! This is Linc and Kennedys story. 1. the unit and family is super close. Its literally the best one I've seen in a while. Even though they wear badges, they are willing to make sacrifices for those they love so don't let that fooled you. They love and protect fiercely. 2. The chemistry felt real and a little heartbreaking because both have suffered, tragic past, and current baggage. It was medium-fast burn romance and then throw in some drama with the Ex crazy lover. Some scenes gutted me like a death in the family, but i love how well they handle it as best they could and how genuine they describe peoples feelings and grieving stages. Cant wait for the next story! Birch Police Department seriously have some hotties!

OMG I loved this book so much! April Canavan is a fairly new author to me, as I read Balls to the Wall earlier this year. She will now be one of my one-click authors I loved this book and its characters so much!
Linc and Kennedy have history and have loved each other from afar the last 6 years. Promises were made years ago but after deployment and dealing with PTSD Linc is struggling to feel worthy of Kennedy but he is always there looking out for her and has her six. Kennedy has her own past demons and struggles but one thing has never changed her love for Linc and that he is all she needs. I was pulled into this story and their universe from the first page and still holding on at the last page. I have been wanting to read Linc & Kennedy's story since the first book in this series and April did not disappoint. Linc & Kennedy have been in love for such a long time but they both have been damaged from past things in their life which seems to be keeping them from being together, however in all the years they have spent apart it was their love for each other that kept them living. Everyone around them knows they belong together but can they admit it to each other so they can get their HEA.
Boots to the ground had me quite emotional and I had to stop reading 4-5 to calm my emotions otherwise I would've had tears rolling down my face. Nox is a fantastic character and says all the right things at the right time. If you enjoy a second chance romance that gives you all the feels then this book and series will be for you.
