Lori Tchen was born and raised in the Texas hill country where shaking out one’s shoes for scorpions was part of the daily norm. She writes fiction in the evenings, her highly prized downtime outside of work while raising her two sons.

Lori’s career began in criminology, working deep nights in a detention facility, then investigating crimes as a Texas State Enforcement Agent. After observing the underbelly of society, her fantasy stories allow her and her readers to escape into imagined worlds and inspire bravery in children (and adults alike) to face some of life’s evil characters.

I love a good fantasy book and this YA adventure didn’t disappoint. Lori Tchen has crafted a lively tale full of imaginative world building, dragons, and other magical creatures. Sterling Fierce is a fourteen-year-old witch hunter who is sent on a quest to unlock a terrible curse that threatens the land. Along the way, he's joined by a group of magical creatures and a potion wizard. They quickly have their courage and magic tested as they battle an evil wizard and his followers. It’s a story of courage, friendship, and found family. I’m excited to continue reading the entire series.

Sterling Fierce is the last of his kind: a witch hunter whose magic is specially made to combat evil in the land of Everen. To earn his keep, he follows the instructions of an elder to start a quest that may be the key to preventing a coup by one of the most twisted dark wizards in the land. Although he's incredibly gifted, Sterling needs to figure out how to accept help before it's too late.

A really charming book with tense battle scenes, thoughtful found family moments, and a lot of high-fantasy world building. This book is well-written from start to finish. Sterling is a uniquely perceptive hero, despite his obvious youth and inexperience. I really can't wait for the sequel!
