I Ffund myself wanting to keep reading way past my bedtime. Totally captivated by the characters, and especially by Lucie.
If you like telling yourself "just one more chapter" over and over, then treat yourself to this book.

Awesome!
Lucie is capturing from the get-go, & the story carries truths through perspectives, layered with political subterfuge, bringing a heart felt empathy to the fore.
The twists & tales are fleshed out beautifully, with just the right amount of realism to bring doubt about the world, & just enough hope to keep you invested, both in the story, & the bigger picture.
Well Done James & keep 'em coming!

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant political thriller!

We meet Lucie Musilova, former Royal Air Force Chaplain, veteran of Afghanistan and holder of the George Medal, aboard a Merchant ship crossing the English Channel as she is being attacked by a sinister group of fellow crew members who take exception to her Czech/British parentage. Lucie quickly disables her abusers and is about to consign one of them to a watery grave when the ship’s Commander enters and orders her to release him. Lucie is marched ashore to be confronted by a member of an obscure branch of the Security Service who tells her she will be charged with attempted murder unless she agrees to work with him. Uprooted from her home in Manchester and billeted in Camden Town, Lucie is briefed by her handler and sent on a mission to Prague where she is charged with the protection of a visiting British MP. After being forced to kill in the course of her mission, Lucie’s attempts to make peace with herself are thwarted by further demands on her lethal skills as she becomes inextricably embroiled in the sexual shenanigans and interwoven layers of intrigue and political conspiracy among the Parliamentary and Ambassadorial staff. After narrowly escaping death in Prague, Lucie returns to London, where the Brexit debate is becoming increasingly polarised and abrasive, and uncovers a sinister plot to uproot the very foundations of democracy in the UK. From here on the narrative tension builds at an agonising rate. Fascinating characters crowd onto the stage, clamouring for attention until the breathtaking climax is finally reached and Lucie is able to breath a sigh of relief.
I have never read a political thriller that contained so much acute political and social comment while taking the reader on such a feverish and exciting ride. James Silvester has created a story that exposes xenophobic hatred masquerading as proud nationalism and given us a timely reminder of what we risk losing in our potential embrace of a hard Brexit.
I look forward to Lucie Musilova’s next outing. She is a fascinating character and she plays a mean blues harmonica.

The content is insulting to an indigenous English person, badly written and nothing but an avenue for the author to indulge his left wing bias.

4.0 out of 5 stars Surprising and disturbing
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on August 2, 2019
I enjoyed this book, despite the fairly graphic episodes of violence, fortunately not too many.
It was an interesting, and generally enthralling, drawing together of the political events of the past half century although most of the activity is very much of today. I found the presentation of a particular political point of view surprising in its vehemence, despite it being one with which I agree, in a spy thriller such as this. What was disturbing were the descriptions of violent behaviour in this country purely in the furtherance of a political ideology; unfortunately, such events only mirror many that we read of in the media on a regular basis. Consequently, this really is a thriller for our times.
It was a genuinely good read. A pity the proof reading was not quite as good as the storyline!

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved this book!

Wow. Where do I start with this book, other than to say it is utterly brilliant. I raced through the pages. It has everything. A plot that twists and turns, lots of fast paced action, Brexit and a kick-ass heroine who you just can't help but admire and root for. I loved this book!

Lucie Musilova is the star of this book and she is completely mesmerising. She has a colourful past, having worked as a chaplain in the RAF, something which surprised me, given how she responded to a group of men who attacked her while she was working aboard a ship on its way to England. I won't say what happens, but this truly captured my attention. I needed to know more about this woman and what had happened to her. I needed to understand her.

This book tackles some serious issues head on, such as political unrest surrounding Brexit, political scandal, immigration and the growing sense of unease created by the far right. It's a thought provoking read that is hugely relevant to today's political climate, and although a bloody good thriller, the social commentary running throughout the plot, creates an in depth and moving read about a woman who is hugely misunderstood.

Blood, White and Blue is the first book in the Lucie Musilova series and I honestly can't wait to read the next instalment.
