When I think I have a favorite book, Jessica Prince goes and proves me wrong.
I'm a sucker for a second chance with the good, old groveling, and this book had it in just the perfect amount.
I wanted Shane and Jensen's story since Bad Alibi, and it was oh so worth the wait.
Shane, Jensen and Brantley stole my heart one page at a time. I knew I'd love them, but it surpassed my expectations.
Shane and Jensen were way more than high scool sweethearts. They were partners, equals, the one for each other in a way no young adult would ever know how to be (even grown adults for that matter).
The intensity in their feelings was palpable and undeniable. They were forced to grow up from a very young age and that molded them as their own person and as the anchor for each other.
They were dealing with demons, rejection, pain, but also loyalty, unconditional love, and so many changes that come with life but also with their own choices.
But that much baggage (either good or not) comes with a price and sometimes, playing with the cards you were dealt forces you to make mistakes, even if the intentions were the best ones possible.
Jensen can totally relate to that.
Life hasn't been easy for either of them, and there is so much resentment, questions left unanswered, the sense of betrayal. But there was also this undeniable love, this power that pulled them towards each other, this chemistry that was way stronger than anything they've ever felt.
Shane is this incredible, resilient and hard working woman. I've developed such a huge girl crush on her. It was enpowering watching her dealing with life, loving their son, standing up for herself but also opening up for love and being vulnerable again, despite all odds.
Jensen was the ultimate alpha. Intense, hot, protective. Also loving, devoted, caring and with the mesmerizing hability of both killing you with his own hands and engulfing you in his arms to protect you from the demons around.
Shane and Jensen were powerful apart. But together, they were unstoppable. A force to be reckoned with.
And I couldn't not tell about Brantley. Oh my, I'm so in love with this little man. Rambuctious, loud, full of energy and love, so sweet and smart, so adorable and funny.
He was totally Shane and Jensen's baby. And the more I think about it, the more I realize how real and believable they were.
Another thing I loved (and I always do when it comes to this author's books) was the secondary characters. They brought the perfect balance to the book, coloring the pages with variety and fun, but never taking attention from the main characters and the plot.
Once I started this book, I just couldn't put it down. I needed to see the end, but I also dreaded the last page, because now I'm in a deep book hangover and, being the brat I am, I want more from this author asap.
She is just that good.
