RATING: ⭐⭐⭐⭐SPICE: 🔥🔥🔥This was a beautiful story about how the road to happily ever after is sometimes paved with rocky patches.Miranda Owens thought she had a happy life. She adores her young son, and even though her husband puts in a lot of hours in his patrol officer duty, they had an amicable relationship.So she thought.When she discovers that her husband's long hours were not dedicated to work but rather extramarital activities, she immediately shuts the door on that chapter of her life. She just cannot fathom being with someone who treated their marriage so callously.Then she meets Tucker Beckett. The police detective mirrors her pain, being the husband of the "other woman," and she found someone who could understand the emotional turmoil she is currently experiencing.But Tucker turns out to be more than that. They find a deeper connection with each other, and Tucker turns out to be the father figure she had always wanted for her son. Could all of this be a product of the trauma they just experienced, or could it be two soul mates finally finding each other?I am always drawn to more mature characters and their love stories, and I really enjoyed this one. As potentially awkward as it may be to some, I love the theme that both Tucker and Miranda went through disappointment and heartache in order to find and appreciate each other. I found them -- especially Miranda -- to be super-relatable, and I even admire her resilience. To pour yourself into a marriage and child only to have who is supposed to be the love of your life pull the rug underneath you? I would be devastated. Yet, Aurora Rose Reynolds created this incredibly strong woman with so much depth, likability, and complexity. Pair it up with a broody but caring MMC in Det. Beckett, and we get amazing chemistry and dynamic. I also love the spice Reynolds serves for us readers. Tucker is just hot, hot, hot.There is a surprising element of mystery, and I wish it brought a bit more action. The build-up for it was so engaging as Tucker and his brother Miles navigate around the case, and the end was just alright. I needed some adrenaline rush!That aside, this was a wonderful tale about second chances, and I am enamored by the Beckett siblings. I certainly hope that at the very least Miles get his own story.
