    Disappointing.
    3 Stars
    Disappointing.
I've had a couple of Amcrest IP3M-941B PTZ cameras for a few years. (Excellent cameras, IMO;I wish they were still available). Because of the great performance of those 2, I bought 2 of the AD410 doorbell cams, expecting similar performance and imaging. After nearly a month with both doorbell cams connected and working, 1 front door, 1 rear, I confess to some disappointment with the AD410s.In our previous house, we had a different doorbell cam, a round one that was a little more expensive than a single AD410, but one whose performance I became accustomed to and by which I measured other doorbell cams.It is/was a wired doorbell cam, pretty comparable to the AD410. While it did detect motion, it did not have a specific IR "night vision" feature; when it detected motion, usually from 16 feet away and often farther, a small LED would light up illuminating the area around the doorway. Because it did not have IR, the image of what was illuminated was in color, sharp and clear. It also seemed that distant images were in sharper focus than I'm seeing with the AD410s. It also had the ability to talk and listen, AND provided for cloud storage without payment of any subscription fee. The biggest complaint I had with it was that it would lose the WiFi connection more often than convenient. (But that may well have been due to a layer of decorative red brick on the exterior of our house). The AD410 has been adequate, but I miss seeing color images, even at night. While I'm not into using/trusting cloud storage, (yet alone paying for it), I do have microSD cards in each of the AD410s. The Amcrest SmartHome app makes it pretty easy to access and play back recordings based on my settings and schedules. No real complaints with the app, though it seems I now must use 2 Amcrest apps: both "View Pro" for my other Amcrest cameras, and "SmartHome" for the AD410 doorbell cams. The IR seems as if it's beam spreads too widely. Our rear one is along side a sliding glass door, and I can't seem to get it angled enough to prevent the IR from reflecting off of the door. (The door is white; perhaps that contributes to the problem). I have a similar problem at the front door, i.e. the reflection of the IR seems problematic. Overall, the night vision images under IR lighting seem totally inadequate. I find myself wondering, sInce the doorbell is wired, isn't there enough power to light an LED to record sharper images in color?Notifications are never "quick enough", (sometimes it seems hard to believe that BT and WiFi travel at the speed of light, regardless of which brand doorbell one uses, and getting to "Live View" still takes longer than most people seem to expect. I never timed the responses, but it seems the AD410s are slower to respond to interaction than the round doorbell I used previously. At the speed of light over such short distances, it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect faster response times all around.Overall, the AD410s are OK, but I don't think I'd buy them again. I still have the round one from our old house and we have 2 other doors that could use doorbells. I way well connect that round one to one of those before long.

5.0 out of 5 stars A welcome upgrade to the AD110
Reviewed in the United States on July 11, 2021
I’ve been using the AD410 for a little over a week now as a replacement for the AD110. Overall, I am quite happy with the upgrade. To me, one of the most important features of the Amcrest lineup is how they can work with their cloud services, local SD card, and local NVR (Amcrest or otherwise using rtsp), all at the same time. The AD410 is no different in this respect.

The upgrade was painless. I was able to swap out the doorbell itself without making any other wiring changes, since the chime adapter is the same between the units. Just as with the AD110, I was able to easily add the device to my Amcrest Smart Home app and get up and running quickly. I was able to plug the new IP address into my Amcrest NVR and the recording started with only a small gap in time while I was replacing the doorbell.

When comparing the two, I find both the image quality and the viewing angle to be improved over the previous model. The video compression also seems to be improved as I see less motion artifacts. This model adds wide dynamic range (WDR) capability, which is nice, but I find that the image quality suffers too much for my taste. However, the point is to ensure you can make out a face in shadows, and I do think it helps there.

One new feature that I’m finding helpful is human detection. With the older model, I would get a motion alert, but I would have to view the snapshot or clip to see if it was someone in my yard or just a bird. Now I get the human detection alert, which lets me know if I should look at the clip or not. I am really hoping that Amcrest will continue with this trend and add more detection models like package detection. This was a feature our previous Nest Hello had that I do miss on our Amcrest cameras. But the Nest Hello did not support on-site recording via SD card or NVR, so it had to go.

When it comes to the Amcrest Smart Home app, I am mostly satisfied there. Notifications come quickly and are consistent. I do find the way to download snapshots and videos a bit clunky though. You first save the snapshot or clip to the “My Saved Files” section of the app. From there you can download them to your phone. There is also a bug that has been in the app for awhile now that is a bit annoying. When you first open the video for the doorbell, the button says it is HD, but what you are viewing is the SD quality. If you tap that button, it switches the button to SD, but you are still viewing the SD quality. If you tap the button a third time, it switches the button and video to HD quality. Aside from those small issues, the app is really good. No complaints from my wife who is not a nerd like me :)

Attached is a comparison in quality where I zoomed into some mailboxes across the street. You can really see the improved quality here. It isn’t night and day, but it could be the difference between making out a license plate number. I also included snapshots of the full view of the AD110 and AD410 for comparison.
