Finnicky

Finnicky
I have been using numerous SmallRig products for years, always liking them. Alas, there always is a first. This product is finnicky at best. I have it attached to another SmallRig product, a base plate attached to 15 mm rods (also by SmallRig), with two screws, a 1/4" and a 3/8".I cannot slide it on a tripod head with both screws firmly attached to the base plate. I have to loosen one of them a bit, then and only then can I slide it on the tripod head, after which I can tighten the screw on the side of the head and it locks it nicely in place. I just do not trust putting an expensive camera on that setup. And no, it is not the tripod head that is the problem: I can slide a genuine Manfrotto 501 quick release on the same head with ease. So yes, the problem is with this product. Like all other SmallRig products it is solidly made and will probably last forever. The problem is not the workmanship, the problem is a poor design. So alas, this one will last forever, too, but will have to do so inside a drawer.
