Customers like the sound quality of the amplifier. They mention that it has a full, rich sound, sounds great with single coil, humbucker, and p90 pick-up guitars, and is much louder than you would expect from a 40w amp. The overdrive, crunch, and rock tones are fantastic, and it's fantastic at emulating old metal tones like The Scorpions, Judas Priest, Deep Purple, and you can get a crystal clean tone, but you have to drop the gain to almost non.

First off, this amp is LOUD, and wants to be turned up. The louder it goes, the better it sounds.
You CAN get a crystal clean tone, but you have to drop the gain to almost non-existent in order to do so. The overdrive, crunch, and rock tones are fantastic, so you likely won't need a pedal there unless you are looking to shape your tone more. The metal tone is solid, but I think it would really benefit from a good distortion pedal.
However, all of the above comments are after spending about 15 minutes with the amp, and leaving the EQ settings all at 12 o'clock, so I'm sure much better sounds can be tweaked out of this thing.
I went back and forth on the 5, 20, and 40 watt models but ultimately settled on this one because of the higher-end speaker and tubes.
If you can feed it a little volume without the neighbors showing up with pitchforks, I would definitely pick this amp up if you're debating it.
Amp arrived on time, and what looks to be brand new; something I haven't always seen lately. Thumbs up to Marshall, and thumbs up to the seller on this one. I couldn't be happier with my first Marshall.
