Publisher's Summary

The chilling true story of the heinous murder of Karlie Pearce-Stevenson and daughter Khandalyce and how the case was cracked.

How did two girls go missing for seven years and nobody noticed? In August 2010, dirt bike riders discovered human bones in the notorious Belanglo State Forest, where Ivan Milat had so cruelly tortured and slain seven young backpackers. The remains were those of a young woman, who the police dubbed 'Angel' after a T-shirt emblazoned with the word 'Angelic' that was found near the body.

But 'Angel' lay unidentified for years. Who was she, how did she die, and at whose hand?

Then, in July 2015, the bones of a child were found by a highway in South Australia. Identification was made quickly: clothing and a blanket found near the suitcase matched that in a photo of two-year-old Khandalyce Pearce-Stevenson, who, along with her young mother, had not been seen for some years.

Police were quick to identify Angel as Karlie Pearce-Stevenson, Khandalyce's mother. In the grimmest of scenarios, mother and daughter were reunited at last.

The Lost Girls is the chilling true story of this heinous double murder and how the police eventually tracked down the killer, who not only murdered the two girls but stole the young mother's identity to claim more than $90,000 in benefit payments.

disappointed

the sharp, loud intakes of breath the narrator takes between most sentences and her inflection when reading different characters is distracting.

Sad but sensitively told

A compelling and comprehensive narrative which covered the viewpoints of the many people involved in these sad events. "Enjoyable" is never the right word when it is a story about innocent victims and their loved ones but as far as it is possible to appreciate a well-researched and well-narrated story - I did appreciate this one.

Sad Story

I listened to this story as I personally know Tanya Webber and recall this horrendous murder happening.
Unfortunate that the narrater pronounced Tanya’s name incorrectly throughout the book and lacked character in her voice.
Still worth a listen.

What a dispicable human

Such a sad story....drugs and a pathological lying psychopath equals pure evil. Great narrator. If only it was fiction

True Crime - sensitively presented

This was very thoroughly researched and sensitively presented true crime story. It is done in a chronological investigative method, following the story from bodies found backwards (even though both the mother and child were reported missing - another unfortunate case of all the connections were there, police just didn't connect the dots when they were first missing).

It was frustrating to learn about this one person doing all sorts of heinous things for a long stretch of time, negatively impacting the lives of many, and still remained outside the touch of law. (Despite accusations of abuse on children.)

Audio - well done.

Story - well researched, and very sensitive BUT I felt that it was trying to be too politically correct and paint everyone in the best light... which can be a positive, but in this case it felt like they were catering to 'everyone' including those who did some very wrong things

Very easy to listen to.

Although I found the story quite “basic” in terms of a true crime story (not too many characters, not too much complexity to the police case other than the passage of time which had passed), the story told was engaging and I finished this book within a day.

Narrator was perfect for this story.

Persons interested in Australian true crime will enjoy.

Such a sad story

That an incredible book but an insanely sad book about family and domestic violence. It shows that it can seriously happen to absolutely anyone. :(
