Unfortunately, as story progressed seemed like author felt that all kinds of drama had to be tossed in. Major issues were just stated in a sentence or two and moved on from.
At times conversations among characters were written as stilted or very out of character for speakers.
Tone changed as book went on. Too bad cause good storyline, but just not consistent throughout book.

This was an amazing story filled with all the action and hot Alpha males. The way that Lani puts Chris in line and the Grady helps coach her for the obstacle course that Chris doesn't think a woman can do, absolute perfect. After Lani is kidnapped the Texas city that's mentioned I've lived in so it was kind of different for me to view the actual hospital room. Ik Lani went through a lot but Chris handled every thing better than I thought a man could. Grady though it's an outstanding gentleman. This is definitely a must read and can't wait for Grady's story next.

The prologue sets the stage for nothing until about 50-60% of the way through the story. Then, BAM! It makes sense. The other shoe falls, and Tri Star Securities to the rescue. Lani needs time, and Chris gives her the space to recover. An HEA occurs for them, but Grady is left in the learch. Can't wait to dive into book 2.

This is the 1st of anything outside of the MC series that I've read from Nicole James, and I loved it. It is a great story with awesome characters. The only thing I think needs fixing in this story is that she wrote they were ex-military. Honorably discharged military is called former military, not ex. Never ex.

Excellent start to a new series from Nicole James. Chris is an alpha male who kicks butt first and takes names after. Lani was married to a military man who only wanted a meek little woman on his arm. So when Chris finally approaches Lani and gets serious about her, she is abducted by a Mexican cartel. When he gets her back she doesn't want to see him.
