Holly & the Underage Party: A Holly Lewis Mystery (The Holly Lewis Mystery Series Book 12) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 117 ratings

Parties where undereage teenagers are served alcohol are nothing new,
And they’re often considered a right-of-passage for young people.
But when your car’s almost demolished
By a drunk high-school driver
It gets a little personal.

When Sheriff Davis asks Holly to help him find out who’s buying the alcohol for these parties, she doesn’t feel she has a choice. She’s compelled to find the person, if for no other reason than to try and get someone to pay for the repairs to her car.

Join Holly and her friends as they go “undercover” to hunt for the offending person. But as always in cases like this, there’s a lot more to it than what appears on the surface. Could she have gotten in over her head with this investigation? And what would Nancy Drew do?

This is the 12th book in the Holly Lewis Mystery Series by a USA Today Bestselling Author.

Review

Old Dog5.0 out of 5 stars Good Mystery In A Great SeriesReviewed in the United States on July 18, 2021This is one of my favorite books in one of my favorite series by one of my favorite authors.

This series is aimed at teenage readers, but has nothing inappropriate for preteens that are reasonably good readers. In fact it is an excellent choice for preteens with normal preteen vocabulary and a love of reading who wonder what high school will be like. Holly, the hero of the story, is not a typical teenager in that she also solves real mysteries, but the rest of her life and the lives of her friends have a lot of high school problems and high school fun. They have parents who are very understanding and supportive most of the time, although Holly hfas been adopted after the death of her mother in a mystery in a different series by the author. They live in a nice community and go to a nice highschool and have more interesting after school jobs and extracurricular activities than are available to some students in poor communities or from poor families have the opportunity to do in high school, but many high school students will be able to relate to Holly and her friends, and middle school and junior high school students who are fairly good readers and like mysteries will also be able to enjoy this series. It might even be interesting enough that some middle school students who are average readers will be interested enough to read this series, and there is nothing inappropriate for readers in those age groups, although a book of this length will be a little challenging for average middle school students. But it is not boring or silly for adults of any age who like mysteries. Younger children might even enjoy have having the story read to them. The whole series is suitable story for listening to for mystery lovers from nine years old to ninety nine years old, and for reading for most good nineth grade readers and older.

You will love the ending--I know I did!!
Holly's little car was hit while parked next to her house. It was two teens who had been drinking at a party that was held in the woods almost every weekend. They never left a note. When Holly reports it to the Sheriff he has an inspiration. Could Holly go under cover and find out who was purchasing the booze for these parties. The Sheriff had been wanting to shut it down but wanted to know the buyer who was supplying the alcohol to under age drinkers. Bridgitt was out of town on a case and her Dad agreed she could do it.She and her two friends weren't sure where to start and they began by questioning several people. She did find the kid who bashed her car and managed to get him to pay for part of it. But he wasn't who she was looking for (well he was-but not for the Sheriff). They really took some chances and ended up going to that party in the woods to learn more. The culprit was located! The Sheriff called--and hopefully those underage parties would end once and for all.You will love the ending--I know I did!!

Thank you for another good captivating book. I am reading the Cottonwood series and switch to Holly Lewis series. How funny that in the Cottonwood series Bridget just left for New Mexico to help solve a cold case. In this Holly series Bridget was away to New Mexico. Did you write these book at the same time?

Total fun with just a bit of mystery suspense mixed in to keep this retired middle school principal glued to the end of the story. would be great for 8th graders not quite ready for high school!

While Brigid was out of town, Holly is recruited to find out who is supplying alcohol for underage kids at parties in the woods. Just to motivate her, one of them crashes into her car.

A story about Holly and her friends is always an enjoyable read. Her mysteries are about everyday day things that happen in her young life. But they are just as good as any book by Dianne Harman.

Very disappointed for the message. That it was ok for a teenage drunk driver to hit a parked car and then leave. Not only did he get away with leaving but when discovered he didn't even have to pay all the damages. The young detective thought it was ok with keeping the identity a secret but allowed the driver to only pay half but seemed fine with her adopted father having to pay half. The author even makes a point of saying the teen who caused the accident were well off and could afford to pay. Really really bad message.
