Unlike earlier books in the series that portrays Sheriff Jenna Alton as a bit of a wimp, this one actually shows Jenna being more forceful. A bomber who is out for revenge has the bodies piling up. The bomb signature is the same as the bomber who killed Kane’s wife and left him for dead...suddenly it appears Kane was not the intended target of that attack...and this case has become very personal. This book is certainly action packed and keeps the adrenaline flowing. I’m looking forward to the next book to see if the chemistry between Jenna and Dave heats up.

I love the Kane Alton books and I usually give them 5 stars. However, I must be honest and say I guessed the culprit fairly early on, something I don't usually do in Hood's novels. Still, it was a thoroughly enjoyable read. I love that the characters continue to grow and develop. I was also happy that Kane finally learned something that gave him some peace of mind. I will eagerly await book # 11!

As usual DK Hood has written a wonderful book. I got it right after midnight and just finished it a little while ago. Yes, that's a long time without sleep, but so totally worth it. Once you start her books it's almost impossible to quit reading it until you get to the satisfying end. . I loved it and look forward to her next book. Hopefully it will have Jenna and Dave moving more towards each other now that he is in a better place. ( trying not to give any spoilers away ) Congratulation D K another winner on your hands.

It's been a quiet six months in Black Rock Falls, Sheriff Jenna Alton is trying to sort out plans for building work and her deputies Dave Kane and Jake Rowley are doing routine traffic stops! They all have a feeling it can't last but know to be careful what they wish for and when a family in the neighbouring town of Louan are murdered in an explosion they know their quiet period is over.

FBI agents Jo Wells and Ty Carter are called in by the Louan sheriff and don't hesitate to add Jenna and Dave to their team along with local ME Shane Wolfe. None of them is prepared for the lengths their perp is prepared to go to achieve their aims however, nor for the personal connections some of them will have to the perp. As the crimes escalate they all know time is of the essence if they are to prevent another family being destroyed.

This is number ten in the Kane and Alton series of books and although I didn't realise it before it’s the one I've been waiting for author D K Hood to write! So much is revealed here and in such a way that the edge of my seat was seriously overused!

Without any spoilers if you're familiar with the lives of the main protagonists in this series you need to read this. Personally I would recommend starting at book one because although each can be read independent of the others they become so much more if read in the order the author intended. This could neatly and most satisfyingly be the book to complete the series but I really hope it won't.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. I loved this and recommend it unreservedly.

Oh my life what an opening!!! Horrific doesn’t go far enough and this tenth Black Rock Falls thriller doesn’t let up!!

Because of the location of this jaw dropping opener, Promises In The Dark brings to the forefront the partnership of Jo Wells and Ty Carter, the FBI agents I’ve got to know over the last couple of books. Only this time it feels Carter wants to prove something with his attitude to my favourite sheriff’s department. Thankfully Jenna is having none of it!

As the story goes on, the nutter causing all the problems starts to get nuttier and the Black Rock Falls team is desperate for results. Desperate to prevent more loss of life. But they’re up against it when they meet the locals of Louan who have some rather outdated views on life. I am just so thankful it’s them and not me dealing with these antiquated beliefs.

“It’s the psychopaths who believe this part of the world is a killer’s playground.”

I love the way the author acknowledges through her characters the crazy murder rates of Black Rock Falls. Hood has done it a few times in the series and it never ceases to make me smile to read the quips in such dark and twisted stories.

Yet again, the new addition to the Kane and Alton family is another fine one. For me, it ticked all the boxes (and more) of a crime thriller I have come to expect from the keyboard of Hood. Bring On Book 11!!!
