Bernie is the mail carrier in Sugar Creek Gap, Kentucky. She is a widow with Mack Tabor as her boyfriend. Then there is a book published about the truth for the last 20 years in Sugar Creek Gap. Then a murder happens to a main character in the book. Bernie keeps asking questions leading to the unexpected truth and arrest of the killer. Another fun book in the mail carrier series! Former local girl, Stella Jane Clark, has written a steamy book and dedicated it to her former English teacher, Bernadette’s son, Grady. When the book comes out, the names are different, but many of the book scenarios are taken from real life events in Sugar Creek Gap. People are not happy, especially Bernadette’s friend, Iris. When bookstore manager, Piddy, is killed after Stella Jane’s book signing, both Stella Jane and Iris become suspects. Bernadette, Iris, and their friend Gertrude’s recently returned daughter, Revonda Gail, investigate to find the real killer. I love the characters in this series and the Front Porch ladies are a delight. It was interesting to meet Gertrude’s daughter and find out the truth about where she really had been. I was happy to see Mac and Bernadette back together and hope to see that relationship deepen. I look forward to more books in this fun series!

Stella Jane Clark is back home to celebrate the release of her first book. Her first signing is in her hometown. There are huge crowds waiting to see Stella Jane the first day she's in town and then to get her to sign their book. It's a big scandal the book is about everyone in town. Piddy is found dead, they learn she was poisoned with mothballs. Bernie's best friend Iris is a suspect so she's determined to clear Iris and find the real murderer. Good story.

Sugar Creek Gap residents are excited to learn that Stella Jane Clark, who grew up in town, has written a romance novel and dedicated it to Grady Butler, son of local mail carrier and sometimes sleuth, Bernadette Butler. Stella Jane has returned to promote and sign books at the brand new bookstore in town.

The thrill is quickly gone once they find out that she has taken the liberty of including many of their personal small-town secrets in the story. Who could have told Stella Jane all of the local gossip? Fingers are pointing everywhere. To make things even worse, bookstore manager Piddy Satterly is killed and residents want to know who is responsible.

Gertrude’s daughter, Revonda Gail, returns to town with a secret of her own. She moves into a rental home next door to Bernadette and decides to see how she can help solve the town mystery.

There is a lot going on to keep the reader interested. But even though it had been a while since I last read a book in this series, I felt right back at home with these wonderful characters.

This is an ongoing series, but you can easily read each book as a standalone. Tonya Kappes has a talent for bringing her characters to life. We get to know their quirks, their secrets, what they like and dislike, and all the town gossip. Make yourself comfortable and enjoy your visit to Sugar Creek Gap.

I have to agree with my book friends who were calling this the best book so far in the series. I thought it was too, and I loved the addition of a new sleuth in town to help out as well as be a baker for Iris. Gertrude's famous traveling daughter was back in town with secrets of her own when in the meantime, a new book incorporating some of the juiciest town gossip hit the stores. The residents weren't amused, but because of who was killed, all signs pointed to Iris.

Revonda was the newest sleuth who dug right in with Bernie. I really liked her, and eventually everyone got to know her story. The showdown had a good twist to it, and that's all I'm going to say other than, don't miss out on the fun, read it soon!

This is the 5th book in the Mail Carrier Cozy Mystery series by Tonya Kappes. It’s a fun read about the people and town of Sugar Creek Gap. This time a fiction book is written by Stella Jane based on gossip about the townspeople. Then one of the new bookstore’s employees, who’s story is in the book, ends up dead. So Bernadette Butler can’t help herself...she’s just got to investigate. It keeps you guessing as to who the murderer is. If you haven’t tried the series yet, you should. I think you’ll enjoy it.

This one proves all the problems gossip can cause, especially when used to write a novel! Definitely had no idea who the killer was until she was caught!
