The Hothouse Deception (Masquerade Inc. Cozy Mysteries Book 2) Patti Larson

Petals at it again! She’s had a slow time after deciding to go for being a Deception Expert. After applying for a PI license and needing 2 years of experience, DC Police detective of violent crimes, Elle Morgan, somehow stands beside her and said she’d help when she could.
So, evidently, Elle needs someone to check in on a rehab facility for female ex-cons looking for a place and learn some skills to help them find jobs. Of course, her dads don’t really like the idea. And to be truthful Petal.. ahem...Paula isn’t quite sure she’s too keen on it either as it turns out to be a small place that grows plants. So, not only is she doing something she doesn’t like aka gardening but its in a hothouse!
Petal isn’t quite sure what she’s supposed to be looking for, but coming across a dead body in the compost pile is a start. Can she figure out why the psychiatrist Maria ended up dead? Oh, and along with bricks of pot!
I love the character building Ms. Larson does as she moves the book along. Petal is good at making friends, and enemies as it may be. Can she figure out deception where it is, or will the dirt fall over her eyes :) We learn more about how Petal works and figures things out. She can be quite endearing when she wants to.
I love this new series and how we are watching Petal grow and learn more about herself as the series goes along. I can’t wait to see where Petal and her Deception Specialist jobs go! I also enjoy her two dads. Pops is sweet, and I think Dad is going to have to learn to go with the flow and get a little bit out of his FBI mindset. We haven’t gotten to know her brother, Jordan much either.

I'm loving this new series - the concept of Petal as "Deception Expert" provides so many fun opportunities for new adventures. Patti's cozies are always an enjoyable escape.
