Jamie McFarlane is a graduate of Colorado School of Mines with a Master of Science in Mathematics. An avid reader, tinkerer, woodworker and metal sculptor, Jamie is just as likely to be seen smelting aluminum cans in his garage as he is tacking random, discarded iron objects into a small army of beasties that adorn his home’s landscaping.

Jamie’s writing career began as something of a dare which later turned into a tribute. In his late teens, Jamie was well known as the family story-teller, spinning fanciful yarns about ordinary events, usually with the objective of escaping well-deserved trouble. One day, his mother, often the target of his mischievous tales, challenged him to commit his words to writing. Jamie promised he would but time passed, as did his beloved mother. In 2014, Jamie made good on his promise and published his first book.

Jamie is the author of a growing library of novels and novellas of military science fiction titles including Junkyard Pirate and the Privateer Tales series.

Uncommon Bravery has the makings of a terrific series.

In this first story we meet some fun characters like Clara Daws, Lester Knight and Jeremy Tinker. The names say a lot about the characters. Jeremy is Dr Tinker, a youthful genius with a large streak of mischief. Clara, Jeremy's heart throb, is the enterprising daughter of the local heavy equipment company. Finally we come to Lester Knight, a former Army Ranger.

Don't let the names put you off, this is fun fast paced story about the sudden changes life can force upon us. We see how these characters and those around them deal with situation beyond our comprehension. They are ready to give up everything to protect their friends, families and each other.

Take a break from your life and join these youngsters on an amazing journey.

I've enjoyed other books written by Mr. McFarlane, so I didn't hesitate to buy this book. I was not disappointed. The plot was interesting and it was easy to become attached to the characters. While the character development was a bit thin, this is the first in a series and I expect that this issue will be addressed in future installments.

If you've enjoyed other works by this author, you should definitely buy this book. I think you will enjoy it. If you're new to the author, you should give him a try, and this isn't a bad place to start.

A note to the author: Now that you have us hooked on a new series, we hope you're busy working on the next book! There's nothing worse than a long wait between installments.

I came across this one by accident and I'm really glad I did. Tinker/Knight adventures is terrific. Everything this author writes is always top notch. I hope this becomes a series. Too many possibilities to pass up here.

Pretty fun read, surprised how fast I burned through it! Now I am looking for the next book in the series.

The book is a fast read. If you like privateer you will like this book. Only draw back is that the characters are written just like in privateer. Two guys and a girl. One guy a fighter and one brainy. Could have done better.

The action sequences are entertaining, but a little choppy with the perspective changing with no warning. I had to reread things 3 times to follow the author's intent, thus breaking the flow. The dialogue is good. The naming of the characters is inconsistent, or maybe I just confused the characters.

More in the war with the cockroaches! Short read but constant stresses and terror. Some main characters go down but war is not nice....I hope the storyline goes on....more please! 😁😁😁

I'm not sure I like Jamie's books. They are over far to quickly and then the waiting game begins.
On a more serious note, excellent read. Fast paced as usual. Characters are shaping up nicely in this book, and no doubt will become the familiar friends you expect them to become. Fans of the Privateer series will love this.

Fast paced, well written and totally immersive. Just like the other 2 arcs in the Privateer universe, this sets the scene in detail but doesn’t telegraph any of the twists and turns. As a short story introduction to new characters in an already established setting, this little novella teaser shapes things up nicely for future adventures.

Uncommon Bravery is a good story in the privateer series, even though it is a standalone short story. Join the people of one town on Earth as the corrarak turn up for dinner, what would you fight for when it is fight or die.
A good story well written from a great author.
