This one has love denied, a bit of heat, strange family members (some of whom are quite nasty), other characters besides the main two who help and support them, a fabulous plot and also words that just flow off the page and keep one interested, engrossed and very entertained!

Book 2 in the Mistress Matchmaker Series

I have to say that I really liked this book, as a matter of fact Jess Michael's is an auto buy author for me. I really liked all of JM's erotic historical's, they just have a way of grabbing me and keeping me interested. The characters are always' well done and the story lines interesting. Add in some VERY sensual love scenes and I'm very happy.

Mariah is a mistress and the man who was her protector, Owen, just recently died in a fire and did not leave her much in his will. The sad thing is, he always' told Mariah that he would leave her well off and not to worry. Mariah visits her best friend Vivien who we met in book 1, An Introduction to Pleasure. Vivien is the Mistress Matchmaker and she gives Mariah the advice that she find a new protector and soon before she is flat broke with nowhere to live.

John the hero of this book was Owen's best friend. From the moment John saw Mariah he wanted her but stayed away because of his friendship with Owen. John is the type of man who is never with the same woman two nights in a row but when he see's Mariah at a party in Vivien's house knowing that she is looking for a new protector, he could NOT deny his desire for her no longer and they end up having a very sexy affair. There are reason's why John cannot have feelings for other's. This is a part of the story line that I am not willing to spoil. Needless to say it evolves a murder, kidnapping and a very mean and wicked villain.

The ending was good, but NO epilogue!! WHY!!!! I love epilogues. The only reason I can come up with is MAYBE at the end of book 3, Her Perfect Match, JM may be putting an epilogue that includes all 3 couples from all 3 book's, giving us one big HEA. Now that would be great!

I'm really looking forwards to reading Her Perfect Match where Vivien finally finds her hero.

Both of these characters were completely believable. You admire Mariah for her wit, charm, ability to care for others, and the fact that she is comfortable with her sexuality. You feel for John because of his childhood and the way he distances himself from connection because of it. These two come together in the midst of a horrible situation and discover things about themselves themselves and each other that gives them strength and the ability to heal. I will read it again and again. Well developed characters and a great plot. My only complaint is that, while the foreplay was a turn on, the sex seemed to get duller and end more quickly as the story went on. But 5 stars because the good scenes were just so good!

Mariah Desmond is a mistress whose protector has been killed in a fire.
She had been promised that she would be taken care of if anything should ever happen to him, but unfortunately that promise wasn't exactly kept.
John Rycroft, was the deceased's best friend and has secretly held a tendre for Mariah since he first met her three years ago, and it seems Mariah cares for him too.
They embark on a love affair while Mariah supposedly also looks for a new protector.
Although there is passion between the hero/heroine, I can't really say that I grew to care for the characters and besides the fact that Mariah is a mistress(which of course is already a great obstacle in and of itself), we are also aware that John has a problem with commitment too,(due to a manipulative father).Unfortunately, I was neither convinced nor happy about the turn of events in the book. It all seemed just a bit too far-fetched and as if the author needed something and this was the only thing she could come up with!
There is of course a happy ending, but all in all, it left me feeling kind of flat.

I enjoyed this read, lots of sexy scenes & absolutely loved when John was so very dominant (no force) way. The only con I think is I would have preferred to have at least a couple of appearannces in the novel by Lysandra, Andrew & Miles. Vivien is an outstanding character & I loved her in this book but feel that being a part of a series it would have tied in better to have the others in it too not just there names mentioned in passing.

I liked this story, it was a little different from the usual story line. However, Mariah's character was a trifle underdeveloped. I would have liked to learn more about her history and therefor her motivations. I could understand John's motivations based on his upbringing. Although the father and brother were a little hard to believe. Jess Michaels is a very good author. I've read a few of her books and have enjoyed them all.

This is the second novel in this series by Jess Michaels and it is not her best work, but it is still good.
Two new characters take the lead of the previous main protagonists and I know this happens often, in romance series within families etc, but I expect better from Ms Michaels.There is, however, a change in that these two are not social equals in any way, and for this to work ,family and society as a whole are going to have to accept big changes for this love match to be accepted. Furthermore, the two characters are robust and well constructed for their special roles. And it works. Even though I had doubts about this novel in the beginning as I have already said "it works" Well worth the 4 stars and probably should be 4.5*'s. :) RECOMMEND

I felt sory for the female character in this book. She had just lost her lover and was under the impression she would be looked after until he died and left her with nothing. However she soon came across his friend who was there to fill the needs she so desperately wanted. This book was hot and steamy and there were moments when i really felt for both characters who had skeletons in their closet that needed to be aired. I felt the story came about nicely with the correct outcome at the end.
