Axton: A Saven Series Optional Novella #4.5 (The Saven Series) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 132 ratings

★☆ This book was previously titled The Heir and the Human.★☆

Axton’s existence was a lonely one until his mother brought Sadie into his life. Now, she’s the center of his universe, and he’ll do everything in his power to protect her.

But Griselda’s evil plans cast a dark shadow over their love, threatening the future he so desperately craves. With separation looming, Ax is preparing to sacrifice everything for the girl he loves. It’s a high-stakes gamble, and he needs to stay ahead of the game if he's to outsmart his conniving mother.

Sadie has been
his savior.

Now it’s his turn to save
her.

Note from the author:
This is a fully completed series.
This novella is an optional novella, however, I recommend reading it after Saven Defiance to maximize reading enjoyment.
This novella is narrated exclusively from Axton's point of view and it details some of Ax and Sadie's backstory. It also features some of the characters you have come to know and love from the main series.
This is not a standalone story and should only be read as part of the series.

From the Inside Flap

I could stare at her all day long. Sometimes, I do. When she's not paying attention, she doesn't notice the constant stream of sly glances I level her way.
Like right now.
She's bent over her bag, rooting for a water pouch, her skin oily with the efforts of her rigorous training session. Strands of ash-blonde hair have escaped her tight ponytail, kissing her temples in worship.
Instructor Xelinx has only given her a quick reprieve while he attends to some urgent comm. And I have someplace important to be. But, as usual, trying to drag myself away from her is a near impossible feat.
My heart swells in my chest, the way it always does whenever I'm near her.
"Here," Sadie says, tipping her chin up and thrusting a dab-pad into my hand.
I stare at her with a perplexed frown. "You were drooling." She sends me a knowing smirk as she wipes her sweat-soaked forehead.
Huh, guess I wasn't that secretive after all.
I slide sideways on the bench, angling my body into hers. "Are you complaining?" I flick my brows up, wondering whether to frown or smile.
"When it comes to you? Never!" Leaning forward, she plants a gentle kiss on my lips, completely demolishing me on the spot.
It still amazes me that we can be like this with one another. Even though we are matched, and she is my official mate, I know how lucky I am that our feelings for one another are real.
That I can kiss her, hold her, and touch her, at will, never ceases to blow my mind. We were the best of friends for years before my feelings changed. Or, rose to the surface, more like. I think I had always been crushing on her, but those sentiments had been hidden deep in my psyche, gradually creeping up on me until one day everything just clicked into place.
I looked at her as if seeing her for the first time, and I knew that I loved her.
More than I have ever loved anyone.
More than life itself.
I would
do anything, be anything, for her.
She is my entire world, the center of my orbit.
Nothing or no one means more to me than Sadie.
Sometimes, the depth of my feelings scare me half to death. Especially when I consider the plans my mother has in mind for her. A primitive, protective growl starts building in my gut.
"Hey? Where'd you go?" Sadie gently clasps my wrists. She exudes concern. "Are you okay?"
I quickly snap out of it. The last thing I want to do is worry her. She's already frantic over the impending mission my mother has been so carefully planning for years. I won't add to her stress.

I was kind of dreading reading this one. I love this series. I love Sadie and Logan. This novella is all about Sadie's time with Ax, when she loved him. I knew it would be heartbreaking. I knew I would fall in love with the idea of Sadie and Axton, because Siobhan Davis knows how to make you do that. But at the same time I'm in love with the idea of Sadie and Logan. Am I making sense?! It's funny because Siobhan did a great job with Sadie's character in this book. Sadie had a little bit of a different way about her, because she had a different life growing up than the life the Sadie Logan loves had. It made a difference in little things about their personality, but in the big things they were the same. You have to read it to understand what I mean. But, I knew this would be heartbreaking and I'm hoping in the last book of the Saven series things work out for Ax, he needs some happiness in his life. I highly recommend this novella though, it adds a lot to the series!! Which is now one of my all time favorite book series ever!!!!

The Heir and the Human tells the story of Axton and Sadie and what happened on Torc before the events of the first novel. Going into this backstory, you know the outcome if you've read Saven Defiance. Knowing the outcome instantly puts a sadness over this whole story. You get to know and love Blade and hate what happens to him. You get to know a very different Sadie, ones who's scrappy and feisty. You really, really get to know Axton. Axton... I don't know whether I like him or not after reading this story. His life and the way he's treated are both hard and sad. His mother is deplorable and atrocious. Sadie introduces him to love and acceptance and gives his life meaning. Ax falls deeply in love with Sadie, but he knows her future and destiny. He knows she doesn't belong to him. He feels grief and remorse, but he doesn't let that stop him. He selfishly pursues her anyway. Because of all of this, I think he brings all of the angst, pain, and loss he feels on himself. Furthermore, because of what they experienced together and felt for each other, Sadie needs to be held accountable for not recovering her memories. She needs to understand the gravity and consequences of her choices, not run away and remain oblivious. Goodness! All this in an "optional" novella! Another well-written (frustrating and emotional!) segment in the Saven series!

If you love Axton’s character or still feel on the fence about him, then this novella is a must!

As much as I hate her, I love Griselda. Female villains seem exponentially more evil, and her behavior throughout this novella had my jaw dropping a number of times—especially the end! Wow. That ending. I had an idea about how this would end after reading Saven Defiance, but after getting further attached to Siobhan’s complex characters, I found myself feeling heartbroken all over again.

Like I said for my review of Saven Defiance, I want Ax to finally have some happiness in his life. Even when he was with Sadie, he was constantly worrying about Logan and her departure back to Earth. His mother has never given him the love he deserves, and after finding out who his father is in Saven Defiance, well nothing needs to be said there. Basically, I worry he is going to take a turn for the worse, and I wish he could somehow get his version of Sadie back.

I received a copy and volunteered to review it.

To have the intimate details that you don't quite get all of when reading the primary series books is awesome. This book fills out the overall story just that much more without extraneous thoughts and words getting in the way. Again, leave it to Mrs. Davis to write another stand alone story that makes you BEG for the rest of the series.
Fortunately, this author may have you chomping at the bit for more when you complete any particular book, but she NEVER fails to deliver supreme satisfaction with each and every next release. I HIGHLY recommend to anyone and everyone that if you are ever interested in a single series, CHOOSE THIS ONE! It can't get any better.

This was a good short story. It gives the backstory on Ax and Izzy. While I'm still not a fan of Ax, I do feel bad for him.

I liked this lil novella as it explains the heart ache that ax is feeling, that sadie and ax did tryely love and care for each other. Though i wish ax had more of a backbone when dealing with his mum. But then again with the monster she is and what she has done i dont entirely blame him!
Heartbroken over blade and the heartache that is affecting izzy and axton.

At least we leaned what happened to Blade but I found myself skimming it because I already knew the story.

This little glimpse into Ax and Sadies past is as awesome as is is awful. It really brings a necessary light to his "insanity". It makes it very easy to empathize with his situation. Epic 💘 and loss.

Okay, I should really have been up to date on the Saven series before reading this one. If I was I might give it better marks. The point of this story is that a young man and young woman want to be together but parents deem it inappropriate. I had hoped for a sub plot but we get just a nod at destroying a device, despite a detailed background and an on-going process of administering altered DNA to some of the people on this planet. Hence only one of the couple is a legacy human. We see a formidable mother, mysterious people talking about revenge, time travel, wormholes, and references to concubines and arranged marriages. The tension builds to action at the finish.

Those who are following the series will enjoy it if they like teen romances. I noticed some strong language. My thought: if the man you love calls you baby, it's a bad sign.
