The Wife of Riley: A Cozy Mystery (Mercy Watts Mysteries Book 6) Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 659 ratings

A quirky cozy mystery series from USA Today bestselling author A.W. Hartoin. For fans of Janet Evanovich, Tricia O'Malley, and Jana DeLeon...

Mercy Watts travels to Paris, but there’s darkness in the City of Light.

The Fibonacci family saved Mercy’s life at Cairngorms Castle and now she owes them a favor. Calpurnia Fibonacci makes it clear that it’s time to make good. When you’re dealing with a powerful mafia family, refusing isn’t an option, but the case isn’t going to be easy. Mercy’s job is to find a woman in Paris, one of the largest cities in the world. Angela Riley was married to the Fibonacci’s accountant, a man who knows where all the bodies are buried, but she disappeared six years ago and was presumed murdered by a man she met in a bar. Her husband and family moved on until Angela’s sister goes on vacation in Paris and gets a glimpse of her murdered sister on the fashionable Rue Cler. The Fibonnaccis want to know exactly why a woman from their inner circle would choose to disappear and Mercy’s well aware that Angela’s life depends on the answer. To make matters worse, Chuck and Aaron tag along and they have agendas of their own. With the mafia and the shadowy Klinefeld Group involved, finding the wife of Riley will be much more dangerous than Mercy ever expected.

USA Today Bestselling author A.W. Hartoin grew up in rural Missouri, but her grandmother lived in the Central West End area of St. Louis. The CWE fascinated her with its enormous houses, every one unique. She was sure there was a story behind each ornate door. Going to Grandma’s house was a treat and an adventure. As the only grandchild around for many years, A.W. spent her visits exploring the many rooms with their many secrets. That’s how Mercy Watts and the fairies of Whipplethorn came to be.

As an adult, A.W. Hartoin decided she needed a whole lot more life experience if she was going to write good characters so she joined the Air Force. It was the best education she could’ve hoped for. She met her husband and traveled the world, living in Alaska, Italy, and Germany before settling in Colorado where she now lives with her family, a Great Dane, a skanky cat, and six bad chickens.

This series has me waiting impatiently for each installment, and staying up way past my bedtime reading when they arrive. As an R.N. I love the eerily accurate nursing references. As a former resident of St. Louis, I also enjoy the city references. But even those connections aside, the characters are deep, funny, interesting, and full of surprises. The relationship development is superb, and the plots of all her books have delightful twists that keep you guessing to the final pages. I highly recommend the entire Mercy Watts series.

Mercy, Chuck and Aaron go to Paris on vacation and for a little investigation into the Bled family history. Between cooking school, mysterious apartments, a missing mob wife, and hit men, Paris will never be the same!

Mercy is going to Paris. She should be dancing on air, but she's not. She owes a favor to mafia queen, Calpurnia Fibonacci and now Mercy must pay up. She's going there to see if Angela Riley, who was declared dead six years ago, is actually alive. How will Mercy find out when she has to bring her boyfriend Chuck? He's a St. Louis police detective. This story is filled with danger and intrigue. Mercy may look like Marilyn Monroe, but she's a smart and feisty heroine. Chuck loves Mercy, but something is bothering him that he doesn't want to share. I loved seeing their interaction. Their dialogue is lively as is their attraction. I loved the mystery and the paranormal elements. The secondary characters add to the action. A.W. Hartoin did a great job with the interwoven storylines. She merged romance and secrets from the past to create a suspenseful mystery. I loved the characters, the setting and the surprising twists and turns. The Wife Of Riley is an incredible book.

I LOVED this book!!! It is a really good read. I f you have not read any of her books before I would advise you to start at the beginning to be able to have a sense of who the people are and their relationships. These books just keep getting better and better! You will not be able to put these books down until you have finished them. This book, The Wife of Riley, is the best one yet and anyone who loves to read will love this book. I loved this book so much that even though I had gotten a free copy I still bought this book for the full price so that I could have it on all 3 of my Kindles.

This book left me wanting more. More of the story, more of these characters wherever they go next. The descriptions of these characters, the places they go, even the clothes they wear are well written and enticing. As I said at the beginning I want more.

Mercy is a hoot, but all of the characters are so vivid that reading these books is like dropping in for a visit with old friends. If you like Evanovich or Jennifer Cruisie you'll love this series. Highly recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Still going strong

Love the Mercy Watts Series and this book did not disappoint. Good gripping story that had me engaged to the end. Only one wee thing was I would have liked there to have been more development of the problems in Mercy and Chuck's relationship. I felt this was too rushed as an afterthought in the end. Still loved the book though.

5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant story in a great series

The Wife Of Riley (Mercy Watts Book 5)

And it starts of with a bang...lol not literally unless you count the explosion of twinkies...lol all in a days work for nurse Mercy Watts.

Mercy is smart and sassy to smart to get mixed up with Calpurnia Fibonacci and her mafia family or so I thought :-) But then again who would seriously knock back a trip to Paris to find someone who is supposed to be dead ? I mean it's not like anything can go wrong, is there ?

I have been eagerly awaiting this new book to find out what happens next with Mercy and Chuck now they are together, only to be bitterly disappointed a few chapters in when there has been no progress and it's not from Mercy's end like I was expecting it's from Chuck :-( what is with that seriously he has chased her since they were kids now he has her that's it, he doesn't want her anymore, gosh I hope that's not it I was so excited when they finally got together. There has to be more to Chuck's keeping Mercy at a distance but what? I love a series that gets my emotions going from the very beginning with each new book you have certain expectations you've built up and then there is the anticipation is the next story going to go this way or that way, it really is exciting to then turn each page and find out what happens, sometimes I'm happy, sometimes sad and sometimes angry, but for me this is what makes a great series and makes me want to keep rushing for the next book and Mercy's series is just like that and so far I have really enjoyed each and every story.
