Destiny's Song (KarmaCorp Book 1) Kindle Edition
------------------------
Kish is supposed to use her prodigious Singer Talent to smooth problems in the galaxy. She’s more likely to punch someone in the nose. Her next assignment might require both.
Kish Drinkwater crashed into an asteroid right after she was born and grew up on a miner rock. Life has never been easy and destiny has never felt like it’s given her much of a choice. Now it just might, and miner wisdom might be right after all - be careful what you wish for.
Destiny's Song is book 1 of the KarmaCorp series, a unique blend of science fiction and paranormal fantasy. (For those of you doubting that the series sounds like fantasy, it's a slow build. But the last two books of the series are paranormal fantasy with a few intergalactic accessories. That's what happens when a shaman starts telling her story...)

“If you like books that put more light into the world, if you like books that help take you away from the darkness and negativity that seem to be taking up more space on our planet, then do yourself a favor and get this book.” J. Faison, Amazon reviewer
“I would like, please, dozens more stories like this - space and grand destinies and grace notes; work and friends and self tangling.” Sarah Brown, Amazon reviewer
A note from Audrey: I tell stories of hope, resilience, belonging, and finding what (and who!) matters. I do that in a lot of different genres, but you’ll always get those things in an Audrey Faye book. :)

- Reviewed in the United States on March 18, 2016(RabidReads.com)I am a huge fan of Debora Geary’s witches series, and I read and loved every single one of them. When she quit writing the series, I was really sad and never even thought about her writing under another name. Imagine my surprise when I found this series by her recently. I was really excited and needless to say, this book found it’s way up to the top of my tbr pile. It’s completely different from her witch books, but her wonderful writing is still very evident.
Kish is what’s known as a Fixer, otherwise known as a person with a rare talent. Kish’s talent is singing, but not singing like we know it. When she sings, she can feel the moods, how people feel etc. She can also use her talent to “fix” situations. She was taken in at age ten by a company called Karmacorp. There she was trained to develop her talent and to learn how to fix problems. She lives at the corporation, but is sent on jobs to other planets within the quadrant that she lives in. She’s twenty five, and is very good at her work. When she is sent to an outpost colony, one that isn’t part of the federation yet, she doesn’t understand why it’s that big of a thing. She’s used to breaking up rebellions, and that type of thing. Important work. On this colony she is expected to nudge a couple into falling in love for the good of the colony. She wonders why a Fixer even needs to be involved, why would they waste her talent on that kind of thing? She thinks it will be easy, but she also feels it’s unethical to the young couple. Little does she know that it will be her hardest job yet.
Kish was an interesting character with a back story of being the only survivor (as a baby) of a vehicle that crash landed on a asteroid, near a mining operation. She is taken in there and would have stayed there, if an outsider hadn’t heard her singing. She’s good at what she does and has made a far better life for herself than had she stayed at the mining camp. She has a roommate and best friend named, Tee, and good friends, Iggy and Raven. Devan Lovatt and Janelle Brooker are the two young people that she is supposed to sing towards a wedding. When she meets the two, everything changes for Kish, especially when it comes to Devan.
This author is known for her cozy witch stories and characters that you fall in love with. There’s usually a message to be learned or a couple that falls in love. Witches are trained and little ones nurtured. The stories and the characters are all intertwined and wonderfully written. In this series, there are messages as well, and Fixer’s to be trained and nurtured. If you are looking for it, you will see how this book could fit right into her witch books-except there aren’t any witches. However, had I not known, I probably wouldn’t have compared the two. Because they are different, and written for a slightly edgier audience, in my opinion. Sex is talked about, but doesn’t happen in this book. Language is a bit more adult. It still falls in the wonderfully written category, however. I must admit that I was a bit confused with the the talent that the Fixer’s had, at least initially, although it didn’t take too long for me to understand.
I enjoyed the futuristic aspects, the characters and the romance, such as it was. And it was a romance of sorts. I would have liked a bit more about the romance, and I think I missed that part a lot. Normally all her books are 5 star reads for me, but due to my initial confusion over the talents, and the romance being a bit lacking, I rated it 4 stars-which still means it was an excellent read. I will definitely be reading the next one, sooner rather than later. Recommended to young adults aged 16+ to adults.
- Reviewed in the United States on October 21, 2015Writing :: There is a richness to Audrey Faye's writing, a rare find. Her stories never become drab, even with multiple reads. The depth of all the characters, the spot on relationship and group dynamics, the multilayered plots, the lovely plot twists (equally surprising and believable), the humor, and the quiet rendering of people-truths and life-truths combine to create a profoundly satisfying read. Some books drain me, others entertain, some resonate with me, and a very few nourish my soul. Audrey's books nourish and fill me. And they are clean (there's occasional language). Yes, I'm gushing. I suspect it's the cumulative effect of the "wow" experience x25 titles: I am enriched each time I read one of her books, including books she wrote as Debra Geary. This book is no exception.
Storyline :: I enjoyed the plot and the unique paranormal gifts Audrey's characters have. Though Audrey's Singer is compared to Anne McCaffrey's Crystal Singers (a series I've read), Kish's singer gift is quite different with abilities that are more far reaching and function differently. Kish, who is well-established in her gift and profession as a Singer, runs into a wall of personal and professional change she doesn't expect and doesn't necessarily want. (Definitely an experience I can relate to.) As in real life, things get real complicated, real fast. Although there is bacon *grin.* One thing's clear: I am going to savor this series as much as her Modern Witch series.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 17, 2021Loved Kish's story
Lakisha "Kish" Drinkwater is a KarmaCorp Fixer. A singer, she uses her voice to influence. Adopted at birth and raised on a mining colony until she was 11 and the seekers found her. At 25, she is still rough around the edges, and as likely to punch someone in the nose as she is to use her talent. She has three best friends to keep her mostly out of trouble.
Director Yesenia Hayes, head of KarmaCorp in their section of the galaxy just given Kish an assignment that feels more like a punishment. She is suppose to influence two best friends on a backwater planet to fall in love and get married, for the sake of Federation consideration.
Before Kish leaves she is required to make a guest appearance in a tadpole singing class. Kish makes the acquaintance of her bosses daughter. Young Tatianna makes an impression on Kish.
Kish head off to BroThree, her matchmaking assignment. She is met by Tameka, a retired dancer, who will be her contact. Her targets are Janelle Brooker and Inheritor Elect, Devan Lovatt. Best friends and want nothing more than that.
Janelle readily befriends Kish, fully aware of why she is there. Devan triggers Kish's talent is all the wrong ways.
Devon and Kish seemed to have been made for each other. Kish is willing to put heart aside for the good of the people of BroThree. There are a few meddlers who aren't seeing things her way. Some sage advice has her seeing things Devan and Janelle's way.
Kish has never failed a mission before and the words from her tough but fair boss are a surprise.
Loved Kish and Devon, their story continue in Grower, Kish's bestfriend and roomate, Tee's story

5.0 out of 5 stars A great new sci fi series
This book has echos of Anne MC Caffreys Talent series. People in an intergalactic company who have specific talents are trained up to go into the galaxy and help solve conflicts. The story moves along at a good pace and the writing is good but not great. Some of the descriptive concepts are a bit vague but as with a lot of sci fi writing, you need to use your imagination to fill in some gaps. The idea here is that a singer can use her voice, to influence how people think and act, so she can resolve conflict, influence behaviour, and in the main plot, is sent to encourage two young people to fall in love for the good of the planet they live on.Of course all does not go to plan

5.0 out of 5 stars Reich engaging and yet simple story
I have your this authors work under a diff name and her work regardless of the genre always brings the story back to the Important parts - connection, community, love and standing in your own power.
I love the Canadian connection too and wonder where we'd be going if we had built the Avro Aero. Many thumbs up!

5.0 out of 5 stars Quirky, different, .. and very touching. Makes the soul dance.
I was kinda sceptical at first at this really different type of novel from what I normally read - hi tech thrillers, sci fi etc. but I got really engrossed in this endearing story that actually ended up touching my heart very deeply. It resonates with a deep yearning..

5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful. I cried so much
I was introduced to Audrey Faye’s work via Indigo, Blue and Violet. I loved their stories so much that a few months later I settled down for a rare re-read, which ended last night. It wasn’t enough, so I went questing for more.
Kish’s story is brilliant, heartrending and poignant; a rare treasure well worth the read and all the accolades I know of. If you love a good story, please read it. Audrey Faye’s talent is amazing and I am in awe.
