No Biz Like Showbiz (A Lexi Carmichael Mystery Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 949 ratings

Lexi Carmichael: helping geeks everywhere get some.

Okay, so it's not exactly as it seems, but that's what's happening on the dating reality show called Geeks Get Some that I, geek extraordinaire Lexi Carmichael, have been called to work on. Not that I'm a fan of reality shows (I can barely deal with my own reality). Still, I've been sent to Hollywood to find a hacker who's screwing with the results of the show's online voting system.

So, what happens when I get there? Well, the producers convince me to continue my investigation from the inside. And what should be an easy hunt for the hacker turns ugly when he sets his sights on me. Add to that a studio obsessed with ratings, a bunch of nerdy contestants, and my own confusing love life, and unraveling this mystery might make me a star...or get me killed.

No Biz Like Showbiz by Julie MoffettLexi Carmichael mystery series #4. Computer investigation self proclaimed “geek” books.Lexi travels to Hollywood, Los Angeles to investigate electronic voting fraud on a dating show. She is threatened while searching the computer systems and friends come to help her solve the crime.Ok, I’m not sure I would have continued investigating if the first thing I find is a video of me in the hotel room! Yikes. Get me out of there!Fortunately Lexi is braver than me and she digs in to find the hacker.A quick read and adventure with the usual humorous naïve Lexi and her rallying friends.Enjoyable and I will continue the series.

Geek extraordinaire Lexi Carmichael is back in a fun and engaging story. As Director of Information Security for X-Corp, a cyber intelligence firm, Lexi uses her vast skills and knowledge to solve whatever problems are sent her way. Lexi’s latest case has her traveling to Hollywood to join the crew of the newest, hottest reality show “Geeks Get Some”. A cracker (a hacker with malicious intent) has infiltrated the show’s computer system and is manipulating the audience vote as to who gets sent home each week. Since Lexi is appalled by the show’s premise, she has some sympathy for the cracker but has a job to do—she must find out who is doing this and stop him/her. Things go from bad to worse when the cracker causes Lexi a great deal of stress and personal embarrassment. Lexi makes it her mission to find the cracker no matter the cost.

Oh, I just love Lexi. She is beyond confident when it comes to her cyber skills, but navigating the social graces causes her much anxiety. Her interactions with the Geek contestants are very humorous, sometimes touching and always entertaining. Lexi is kind, thoughtful, and very genuine. With Lexi, what you see is what you get. She is a wonderful protagonist and has grown emotionally with each book. I’m so glad she made the romantic choice she made. I like the other two guys, but I think the man she chose will continue to challenge her to take risks—both socially and professionally.

No Biz Like Showbiz is a great addition to one of my favorite series. I knew immediately who the culprit was, then I changed my mind, and then I changed it again! (LOL) I was wrong each time. The author kept me guessing from beginning to end. I’m looking forward to Lexi’s next adventure. Happy Reading!

I love this series, the stories are 5 star in my opinion. Thank you Julie Moffett for writing about a heroine who is smart and loves her friends, while sparing us overly descriptive sex scenes that are never necessary to the plot. I enjoy the fast pace of the stories, the humor, and the fact that they have a different twist than similar series. Lexi is a likable character, she does what she does in tight situations because she has weighed her options. Not simply because she is bull headed and someone said she shouldn't (Like so many leading ladies in this type of mystery.) Granted things don't often go according to plan, at least she thinks things through. She maintains a naive outlook despite what happens to her, that innocence is part of her appeal. I appreciate that she is trying so hard to grow as a person, while being entirely who she is.
The only bad thing I have to say is that the editing could be improved. There are random words dispersed throughout that you can tell were the author expressing a thought and then changing her mind on wording without removing the entire sentence. Very few misspelled words, but often misused words....their vs there type issues. It seems to get worse in book 3 and continues into the next two. It just feels like the author has so many good ideas she types them in a hurry and no one helps her read through. It is too bad there's no way to highlight errors on the kindle and provide to author so the digital copies can be fixed.
Obviously the editing isn't a deal breaker, I've read all available books and anxiously await the next. If the books were $10 I would be more upset by them.

Another winner from author Julie Moffett. The characters are quirky but genuine. The plot twists and turns and keeps you guessing. There is mystery, intrigue, romance, and humor. I recommend this book and the whole Lexi Carmichael series.

I am thrilled that I recently discovered the Lexi CharmichaeI series and that there are several books out and more schedule! I love that every book is so different from the others; the wonderful characters continue but what Lexi faces each time is totally unique. I adore her! Ms Moffett not only pulls us into truly caring for her characters, the balance of action, humor and romance keep the pace flowing and keep me wanting more!

Lexi goes to Hollywood to find out who is hacking (cracking) into the voting stats of a "reality show" about nerds. While she sympathizes with the hacker to an extent, Lexi has committed to finding him so she will. THEN, he makes a BIG mistake, he brings the battle of wits directly to Lexi and her friends. Game On! Speaking of games, Lexi is manipulated onto the show. You can imagine how much she enjoys that!

I love Finn and drool over Slash who has declared his love, but I am on Team Elvis. While Lexi many not see it yet, everyone else knows that he has a big "thing" for her and that thing may be love.

As always Julie Moffett had me laughing from beginning to the very end of the book as Lexi tries hard to figure out what she wants in a relationship, life, love and career. When the hacker makes things personal you fight alongside Lexi as she tries to discover who the hacker is. This book doesn’t have the action pack of When in Rome but it has all the usually characters her best friend Basis is there to help Lexi figure out the social norms she is lacking, the ever sexy Slash has Lexi trying to figure out her love life and Elvis in more in the background being the best friend Lexi needs. The book is super fun but carries a heavy message about bulling and sometimes that point gets a little to preachy. Being bullied happens at every stage of life as kids and adults, Geek and non-Geeks alike get bullied and I appreciated Julie Moffett showing that in her fun book. Lexi discover the truth but will she use vengeance or her heart -that you will have to find out when you read No Biz Like Show Biz.

This is a great summer read that will have you as always wondering if Lexi will figure out this thing called LOVE!

Looking forward to the next installment of the Lexi Carmichael Mysteries.

These are "easy to read" books. The author attempts to have the humor of a Janet Evanovich but doesn't quite make it. That said, I do read the books when I travel since they are not terribly serious and can be read during a plane ride.

I love Lexi and the problems she encounters, how she overcomes them. I enjoy the humour.
Unlike Lexi I am not a geek and so sometimes stuff goes way over my head but it did not stop me enjoying this book.

I've been waiting for this book for a while. So glad when it was released this morning, but not entirely happy that I managed to read it in 2.5 hours.

But I digress. I love, love, love Lexi and the series! Really happy to have found a heroine who is actually smart for a change and doesn't sputter silly nonsense every 2 seconds or do stupid things. All the characters are believable and well-developed, and the dialogue is relatable and not over-the-top. I found the book hilarious even though I don't have a background in IT or science, though I'm not sure that all readers will be able to relate. Highly recommended! Can't wait for the next one. Keep them coming Julie Moffett!

I have just starting reading these books in order and I must say I really enjoyed the first three, however this one was no where near as good, I hate books where the hero/heroine gets foolishly blackmailed into stupidly foolish stunts, and this is the second book that this has happened. after been abused in the shower she now has to be abused again in front of millions. This to me lets the book down and insults all woman - I will add this is my view only people can make up their own mind
