Arrowmoon (The Bill Travis Mysteries Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.3 4.3 out of 5 stars 259 ratings

What do a leather journal from a previous century, a loaded pistol, and an old safe hidden in an aging barn have to do with a court order that halts the completion of a Texas highway project? Why are snipers taking pot-shots at Lief Prescott, the highway construction manager, and Bill Travis, whom Lief has called in to help? To answer these questions, Bill Travis must get to the heart of a century-old conspiracy before he himself becomes a casualty in a secret war.

Arrowmoon is the eighth installment of the action-adventure suspense-thriller The Bill Travis Mystery series.

About the Author:

George Wier—dubbed “The Titan of Texas Fiction” by ArtPlanet—lives in Austin, Texas with his lovely wife Sallie, a cat and two dogs. He is the author of the popular sixteen-part Bill Travis Mysteries (beginning with The Last Call and currently culminating with Reveille In Red), The Elysium Chronicles (Murder In Elysium and Sentinel In Elysium), and co-author of the Far Journey Chronicles (1889: Journey to the Moon and 1899: Journey to Mars). His new historical thriller Neptune series begins with Neptune’s Forge and continues with Neptune’s Dominion (forthcoming). He has also penned the erotic thriller West of Valhalla. With over thirty-five novels, omnibuses, and short story anthologies to his name, George Wier writes mystery and crime, historical thrillers, action-adventure, science fiction, steampunk, speculative fiction, short stories, screenplays and teleplays. He also plays classical violin, country fiddle, paints oils and watercolors, sketches with pencil, and speaks publicly on the subject of writing.

George Wier is the author of the popular Bill Travis Mystery series, and a number of other standalone mysteries. He also writes science fiction and steampunk.

The Bill Travis Mystery series has been hailed as a tour-de-force among modern mysteries. In this adrenaline-fueled series, George Wier throws all sorts of fantastic scenarios at his protagonist. The characters and situations are often quirky, but no less true to life, and the feel is such that the reader is present alongside Bill Travis as he struggles through one disaster after another.

In his own words: "I currently live in Austin with my lovely wife, Sallie, along with two cats and two dogs. I began writing in earnest in 1986, although I have been creatively writing far longer than that. I find that I have far more ideas than I could ever write down, and so I pick and choose only the best story ideas. I write what I, myself, like to read, and nothing more. I am always happy to talk to a reader and would dearly love to hear your comments. Please visit my website at www.georgewier.com. There you will find free short stories, anecdotes, and links to other books and writers. Thanks for reading!"

"Arrowmoon" is the 8th book in George Wier's Bill Travis series. This book starts out with Bill standing 200 feet in the air visiting his clients' bank building going up when he gets a frantic call from another of his clients, Lief Prescott, who is in the middle of building a multi-lane highway. Lief's life or death phone call was to tell Bill that he was served a temporary injunction that will stop all work for a 2-week period which would translate into putting this new highway behind by several months. Bill agrees to drive over to try and take care of this problem. Of course the problem turns out to be more than just a 2 week, temporary injunction, and Bill and company find themselves on another dangerous, more than meets the eye journey of a lifetime.

If you are looking for a great story that has it all... mystery, adventure, hair-raising moments, good guys, bad guys, and those guys you just don't know about, then this is the series for you. This is a well-written book that will leave you wanting more when you finally turn the last page. This is without a doubt a 5-star book by a 5-star author. So do yourself a favor and start reading this excellent series, you will not be disappointed!!!

This is the 8th book in a series. Obviously I liked or would not have kept buying. The hero is a person of some mystery, I am still not sure what he job is. He calls himslelf a fixer and people call him to fix whatever. Not necessarily on the legal line but not really over either. What makes this series stand out a little, is the authors flexibility, While each book stands alone, there is more detail about recurring characters and also ancillary characters may end up playing rolls. Also the hero grows, single at first but eventually he marries and has a family and they add to his humanity.

The books also display the autors interest in what might have been history, a little weird science, and a dash of mysticism, not really enough to bend the genre but enough to show that the author has ecclectic interests.

I try to remember, as I read each Bill Travis mystery, so I can write a meaningful review but, the truth is they are all very good. I do remember telling myself, about 2/3 of the way through Arrowmoon that this was "The Best". That said, I would strongly recommend that a new reader start with the first book in the series and go from there.

The author or Amazon could help with that info.

This series, unlike others, was not a problem for me to read out of time sequence but, still, I like for the secondary characters (like Bill Travis' kids, to be growing older, not younger that in the book I just read.

Anyhow, I have completely enjoyed these books and anxiously wait for the next!

First I have to say I am an avid Wier fan. I'll buy anything he writes. But this one just didn't make it for me. First was the total implausibility that government or any other searchers would totally dismantle a house, digging up the foundations, and returning the land to a state where you can't even tell a house used to exist there without finding what they are looking for and then not even look inside the barn on the property. I prefer mystery books to fantasy. And then was the denouement! Talk about boring! And droning on forever! Frankly, after the first 40 or 50 chapters after the climax I had to give it up. (Might not have been that long, but it sure seemed to be.)

Mr Wier, I love your books; I love your writing style, I love your plotting; I love your characterizations. But this book was not your best effort.

I enjoyed the book. I thought the story was good, the writing was very good, I got the feel for a few words I rarely use and that's always good. At the end of the book the author spoke of his social commentary. For me, it's like any other faith and as long as he isn't knocking on my door and demanding I listen I don't find it offensive. Get too heavy-handed and I'll move on.

I read several of the series books a couple of years ago then drifted in another direction. I picked one of the newer ones to find I'd skipped some.

I've enjoyed the series so much I went back and re-read the first 3 books again. I enjoyed them as much as the second time around.

Ergo I bought Arrowmoon. It's a tough call, but I think it might be my favorite so far. The storyline and characters are wonderful. The way everything (and everyone) unfolded kept me glued to my Kindle.

I just can't say enough about this story. You nailed this one Mr.Wier.

Each of the books in the series is a stand alone book, and are easily read and understood on their own. Watching the characters grow with their experiences does add much to the storyline. This book is stellar. I'm pretty sure the scenario of the basis of this book is not only possible, but even probable. If you are a bit of a cynic and consider that not all arms or branches of the government have clean hands, you might find this a bit disturbing as well. Fiction or possibly fact? You read it and decide!

A road construction projects is stopped by a court order. An old barn sits in the way of the construction. Bill Travis, the moneymaker, needs to find out why.

The old barn contains an antique safe. If the safe is opened, the secrets it holds can unleash chaos.

This was an intriguing mystery with interesting characters.
