TL;DR - Monitor died after 5 days of light use, no longer powers on. Below average quality with its shaky plastic buttons on the rear, dead pixel, all plastic construction and, well, the fact that it died in 5 days. Picture is nice and clear as you expect for 4K, but this feels overpriced and cheap for a thousand dollars.
Pros:
- Boxing and presentation; included ROG-branded cables, stickers, ROG literature insert
- Factory calibrated sRGB mode with included calibration report
- Height adjustable stand
- Lots of settings and options including several picture modes, ELMB-Sync, adaptive sync & GSYNC(compatible, and works with ELMB-Sync too)
- Picture is clear and sharp as you expect for 4K in 32". Noticeable difference from 1440p in my opinion
Cons:
- It died in 5 days. No longer powers on. It randomly started to flash full-screen colors at maximum brightness today while it was in standby mode and my PC was asleep. Upon waking my PC from sleep, the monitor came to life as expected, power cycled a few times on its own moments later and is now completely dead. (I did try a different DisplayPort cable, but with the included ASUS power brick and small circular power connector you can't easily try a different power cable, unfortunately. And I did update the firmware successfully one day prior to it dying.)
- Plastic buttons on the rear are incredibly cheap. They're shaky in their cut out and have a loud plastic clunk when pressed. Feels like these belong on a $75 monitor from Staples.
- sRGB mode locks out most picture settings and on my unit, looked slightly yellow despite factory calibration
- Dynamic backlight setting is atrocious and causes blooming around windows and the cursor. Almost unusable.
- Average/fair response time. Read professional reviews for this to see that the response time is subpar for a monitor like this in 2021
- ELMB-Sync lowers brightness when enabled
- "Racing Mode" picture mode is apparently the only picture mode that lowers input lag, but at the cost of wildly saturated colors
- My unit had one dead pixel in the lower right corner
* GSYNC 'compatible' only may be a con to some. Would have appreciated at least regular GSYNC for a thousand dollars
I would not recommend this monitor.
Reviewed in the United States on February 3, 2022
I’ve had the monitor for a little over a week now and it’s been amazing. It compliments my high end PC and PS5 perfectly. Sure it’s not HDR1000+ or have FALD, but I’m not complaining since it cost 1/3 the price as the X model.
Also, some people have been put off by certain reviewers saying the “rEsPoNsE tImEs ArE sLoW”… no. The monitors overdrive modes take care of that perfectly. The average gamer wont notice anyway and you would need a microscope to even see any ghosting.
If your looking for a 32” 4K monitor that will also compliment your new console with HDMI 2.1, look no further.
UPDATE: After over 3 months of use the monitor is still going strong. I haven’t had any major issues with it yet. I will say that the halo effect is VERY noticeable. So if your someone who really doesn’t like blooming around white or lighter objects or find it distracting, you might want to hold off for better 2.1 monitors to release. There are better options coming but the prices are going to be considerably more compared to this one.
UPDATE: after 9 months with the monitor, and having time to really game on it, the picture still looks nice. However, I did knock a star off b/c I just can’t get over it not having FALD for the price I paid for it back in October. At the $1,000 price point, it should have included FALD b/c the blacks are pretty poor on this display. Also, the IPS glow is bad as well. Overall, the monitor is still good but I do wish I would have waited longer for something with similar specs but also with FALD, miniLED, and HDR1000 at the $1K or less price point.

I tested the power cable with a professional electro probe, which showed 19 volts – confirming that the power cables are in good condition. The only issue seems to be something inside the monitor.
This has been a very disappointing experience for me, as I have a strong fondness for the PG32UQ series. My main monitor is the PA32UCX from ASUS, which I've kept on daily for more than 18 hours for almost a year and a half without any issues. It appears that gaming monitors might have lower quality when compared to professional ones.
Out of the box this monitor was great! I set the monitor up and when I fired it up it was spectacular! The white was the brightest I'd ever seen and, in HDR, there was no loss in the shadows; and this was right out of the box. I didn't make any adjustments and the picture looked very good. Of course, I may have made the picture even better if I'd had the time to see if I liked what I had.
I set it up on Day One, used it three times that day with the final usage of about two hours in the evening; all told I had about five hours of use. The next morning I turned on the computer, my other two monitors showed up, but the ASUS didn't. After a little checking I found the power supply "brick" was cold to the touch. I swapped sockets on my surge protector with one of the other monitors and it was still dead. I returned it to Amazon with no problem.
After that I went online to see if I had a bad monitor and, when I Googled "ASUS ROG Swift PG32UQ problems", I found many, many people had exactly the same issue. It's too bad because I think it would've been one of the greatest monitors I've ever had.
Bob
You need a beast of a graphics card to get full use of this monitor. if you have 30 series or higher then you should be fine.
