Most (and so far for me, all) Aqara smart items bridged through it can be addressed in HomeAssistant through the HomeKit integration. No need to bother with Matter - unless you want to. The IR blaster, however, only functions with the phone app and does not expose paired items with HomeAssistant - and that it's only minus in my opinion. However, as I view the IR blaster as a nice bonus, and not core to the product I didn't dock the item a star in my rating. However, if the IR blaster were to be exposed - now, that would be something special!
Devices are easy to set up and this hub performs a good as advertised. It's price point makes it a good choice for any home wanting to add good Zigbee coverage for the Aqara ecosystem. Nice.
Also, note that I run this hub alongside another Zigbee coordinator (a USB stick) and both networks function without issue even though my 2.4 gHz spectrum is pretty saturated with competing networks. Again, nice!
One of the standout features of the Aqara Smart Hub M2 is its compatibility with a wide range of smart home devices, including sensors, switches, and cameras. This makes it incredibly versatile and allows for seamless integration with other smart home systems.
Another impressive feature of the Aqara Smart Hub M2 is its support for Apple HomeKit, which allows for convenient control of your smart home devices using Siri voice commands or the Apple Home app. This integration with Apple's ecosystem is seamless and works flawlessly.
The hub itself is also well-built and has a sleek and modern design that blends seamlessly into any home. The setup process was straightforward, and the hub connected to my Wi-Fi network without any issues.
Overall, I am extremely impressed with the Aqara Smart Hub M2 and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and versatile smart home hub. It's easy to use, packed with features, and offers excellent value for money. A must-have for any smart home enthusiast!
Not like the Hue bridge from Philips, you don’t find your hub. And if you delete from HomeKit the security system, all the sensor disappears. This is a bad integration.
Also, temperature sensors that are added on the hub are shown in the same room as the hub. Be sure to name your sensor accordingly to their respective room if you want to know where these are installed.
Conclusion, the hub is doing its job, but very poor integration to Apple HomeKit.
No room sync between the Aqara Home app and the Apple Home app.
The Aqara Home app seems having less functionalities regarding the Xiaomi app which is supposed to be compatible.
No sensor battery status on the Aqara Home app. Need to check this on the Apple Home app.
A big effort for Apple HomeKit integration is required.
PS, after the sensors have been added, it’s impossible to move them to another room. I therefore deleted the hub from HomeKit and reattached it in a room called Aqara (in Home App). Maybe it is possible while you’re adding the sensors to add them one by one and move the hub from room to room before adding the sensor, and maybe the sensor will be attached to the proper room. Something to try if you have time.
1)Set up U100 lock (if necessary) through HomeKit.
2)Sync lock with Aqara M2 Hub in Aqara app
3)Sync any additional Aqara sensors to M2 Hub.
4)Inside HomeKit, go to home settings and choose hubs.
5)Select M2 Hub and share it via Matter (once again, from inside HomeKit)
6)Paste the Matter code inside Home Assistant Matter integration
7)Enjoy full app free control of your smart home!
Follow these steps and you’ll get full offline control and still have full benefits of the Aqara ecosystem such as full HomeKey integration when paired with the Aqara U100 smart lock.
The hub itself works great - some cheat codes for ya:
Soft Reset: press button for 10 seconds
Hard Reset: hit button rapidly 5 times
Only complaint is the speaker isn’t very loud at all. Don’t expect it to work as a siren..
When researching ways to possibly fix this I found posts from several other people that got defective units that were also unable to bind. Support on the Aqara site says to contact seller, but there is no longer a return option on my order and unlikely amazon will resolve this.
