About the Alpine R-A75M

Buck Pomerantz

For loud and realistic-sounding bass

Alpine's R-Series R-A75M amplifier cleanly reproduces the bass in your music so you can enjoy the enhanced realism you want in your vehicle, even when you're playing high-res music. They've applied some hot technology from their top-of-the-line X-Series amplifiers into this R-Series amp. This includes the use of high-efficiency transformers and premium custom capacitors in the amp's construction. Dual "Sierra" feedback circuitry decreases distortion by correcting the output using the original input signal.

How much power?

The R-A75M mono subwoofer amplifier puts out up to 750 watts RMS, conveniently and perfectly matching the power ratings of Alpine's R-Series subwoofers. Advance Class D amp technology allows this amp to be built so small it'll fit in almost any of the tiny spaces available in many cars and trucks these days. You can adjust the amp's low-pass filter, bass boost, and subsonic filter to get just the right bass tone. Plus, you can add the optional RUX-KNOB.2 remote bass knob to control your bass from the dash.

CTA-2006 Compliant: CTA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring amplifier power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CTA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).

CTA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output: 500 watts RMS x 1 into 4Ω
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 85 dBA (measured at 1 watt into 4Ω)

Other Specifications:

  • Power Output: 750 watts RMS x 1 (14.4 volts, ≤1.0% THD+N)
  • Signal to Noise Ratio: 105 dB (at rated power output, 4Ω)
Controls

Gain Control: Use the rotary gain control to match the input signal voltage. The amp will accept line level signals from 0.1 volts to 4.0 volts or speaker level signals from 0.4 volts to 10 volts.

Input Level: Set the input level switch to match the type of input signal used (Hi for speaker level and Lo for line level).

Crossover: The low pass crossover is always engaged. (It cannot be bypassed.) The crossover point is adjustable from 50 Hz to 400 Hz and the slope is 24 dB/octave.

Subsonic Filter: The subsonic filter crossover point is adjustable from 8 Hz to 40 Hz and the slope is 24 dB/octave. A subsonic filter removes super-low frequencies that the subwoofer cannot cleanly reproduce.

Bass EQ: The amplifier has a variable Bass EQ circuit (Bass Boost) that raises the level of the amplifier output at 50Hz from 0dB to +12dB.

Optional Remote Control: The amplifier has an RJ-25 jack for adding the optional RUX-KNOB.2 wired remote bass level control. The remote has a 20dB adjustment range (-20 dB to 0 dB relative to the gain setting).

Connections

Terminal Layout: For wiring convenience, all of the amplifier's inputs and outputs are on one side.

Power/Ground: Two set-screw terminals connect the power and ground cables. The terminals accept up to 4-gauge wire (a 4-gauge wiring kit is recommended). The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 3mm Allen wrench.

Remote Turn-on: The remote turn-on set screw terminal will accept up to 10-gauge wire. The set screw is tightened/loosened with the included 2mm Allen wrench.

Speaker Outputs: The two pair of set-screw terminals will accept up to 8-gauge wire. They are internally wired in parallel, making it easy to connect two subwoofers. The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 3mm Allen wrench.

Signal Input: The stereo RCA jacks connect to line level or speaker level input signals. If connecting the source unit's speaker wire to the input jacks, use a Speaker-to-RCA adapter or splice speaker wire to an RCA plug. When using a speaker level input signal, it may not be necessary to connect a remote turn-on lead because of the amplifier's remote sensing function.

Fuses: The two 40-amp ATO fuses protect the amplifier. Another fuse (80-amp minimum) should be placed on the +12V power wire within 18" of the battery.

Hi I have an Alpine R-W12D2 subwoofer. Is one amplifier of this enough for my sub?

A
yep I have this amp with that exact sub and it works great!
zachary  Oct 01, 2020
A
Yes this amplifier will be more than enough for the sub
james  Oct 01, 2020
A
Yes. They are made to pair with each other. Speaker is 750 and amp is 750 RMS meaning it can peak even more. Since the speaker is duel voice coil, you can wire as 1 or 2 ohm. Amp is designed for 2 ohm so wire speaker accordingly.
donald  Oct 01, 2020
A
it will run the sub but not at its peak power.

Q
Will this alpine amplifier work for two 500 r-series alpine subwoofers?
ahmad  May 12, 2020
1 answer
A
Yes you can. I am not sure I would depending on the power rating of the subwoofers though. You need to wire the speakers so that the amp will see a two ohm load. Positive terminal on amp to positive terminal on sub one voice coil one. Then jump from the positive out from sub one to sub two voice coil one. Repeat the same for negative. Now all you need to do is make a jumper from the positive terminal to the negative terminal on the second voice coil on each speaker.
