To be honest, I found the sound quality surprisingly good--even better than my in-ear Skull Candy sport earphones I've been using for a few years. I have a pretty varied running playlist which includes everything from rap/R&B to heavy metal to classic alternative, and everything sounded fantastic. And what was even better was that I could also hear wayward cars on the road, other runners coming up behind me, the babbling water in the canals, and the birds, even rustling of wildlife in the bushes on the trail! It's nice to have that kind of awareness of my surroundings while still being able to enjoy my music to keep my pace.
The Aftershokz were also very comfortable. I wear a visor and sunglasses with pretty thick sides and had no problem. I also sweat a lot (hey, it's summer in AZ!) and they stayed secure. If I had to find some room for improvement, I'd say make the band adjustable. It didn't really bother me all that much and it stayed secure on my head, but I would have preferred a slightly sung fit around the back. In retrospect, I probably could have gotten away with the mini version. But not a deal breaker in the least. They stayed on just fine, and were definitely more comfortable than my in-ear Skull Candy ones. And probably more sanitary too since there is nothing inside your ear which doesn't need to be regularly cleaned. It was also nice to run without having to stop to adjust the fit or pop the earphone back in my ear when it inevitably falls out!
There are only three buttons--one on the left, and two on the right--and they were easy to access to pause, adjust volume, skip tracks, and turn on/off. Charging was pretty quick, and it was easy to pair with my iPhone Xs.
If you're more concerned about sound quality, then these probably aren't for you. But if you workout outdoors and need to be aware of your surroundings, these are definitely worth the investment.
So, I bought them. On unboxing, I found they have no adjustable parts. It's one size fits all. At first, they did not seem to fit. This was because of my glasses (I'll elaborate below.) However, even with the bad fit, they work as intended, and I still use them at work.
I can hear my environment perfectly with them on. I can hear my co-workers loud and clear. I can also hear my music. And, the AfterShokz have a battery life that lasts all day. This is exactly what I wanted from this product.
But, as mentioned earlier, these headphones do not fit because of my glasses. This is because the AfterShokz do NOT sit on your head like normal headphones. These headphones are designed to "wrap around" the back of your head horizontally, sit on top of your ears, and use your ears to "hook" into place. So they fit your head in the same way glasses fit around your head, only backwards.
But, thanks to my glasses, Either the AfterShokz sit on top of my glasses and don't fit properly, or my glasses sit on top of the AfterShokz and slip off my head. This causes discomfort. It also results in inconsistent volume levels. Every time the AfterShokz slip, the volume level goes up or down, and I have to adjust accordingly.
For the purposes of this review, I tried these headphones without my glasses on. And, without glasses, I find the AfterShokz comfortable to wear.
Next, I checked the volume without my glasses. I first used the AfterShokz in a quiet room. I'm not an audiophile, but even at low volume levels, I could hear the music loud and clear. The sound seemed as good as if I was using normal headphones.
I then tested the AfterShokz in a marketplace. I could hear the music ok while shopping. I then went to a crowded food court. When I turned the volume up as loud as I could stand (about half way to max on my phone,) I could just barely hear the music over the crowd. I could have turned the volume louder, but I didn't want to damage my hearing.
Finally, I tried to listen to these AfterShokz while riding in a car going 55 miles per hour. I left the windows down. As expected, the wind from the windows completely drowned out the music. Again I could have upped the volume, but I'm not going to risk my hearing to make them work in that situation.
As others have pointed out I can feel the AfterShokz vibrate my head at medium to high volume. However, this is a tolerable feeling. The volume hurt my ears long before the vibrations hurt my head. That said, I'm not a doctor and have done no experiments, so I don't know if prolonged use of AfterShokz causes hearing loss. You'll have to take a chance on that one.
A word of caution: If you get these AfterShokz for work, then music can be distracting even at low volume levels. In addition, The AfterShokz won't stop the temptation to sing and dance along with the music. Fortunately, there's a big, easy to press, triangle button on the left earbud that will stop music playback. There are volume controls on the shaft of the right earpiece, however those controls are very small and hard to use. I found it easier to use the volume controls on my phone instead.
Overall, I'd say they work great. They do what I want and their battery life is good. I just wish they fit better. Those with glasses might want to avoid them. But, otherwise, they are amazing. So, 4 stars from me.

I live the comfort & quality of sound. Noise cancellation requires wearing foam earplugs as the headphones sit outside your ear, but that’s what I live about them. I can hear the music or podcast when I’m out for a walk, but I can also hear what’s going on around me, so I thinks it’s much safer that in ear headphones for outdoor use.
