A Splendid Reverb Plug-in
Engineers at Sweetwater know that when it comes to “legit” reverb — that is, reverb that represents a real physical space — sound quality is paramount. Acon Digital Verberate 2 does it right, simulating natural acoustical surroundings with stunning realism. Verberate 1 raised the bar for natural-sounding reverb. Now Verberate 2 ups the ante with Acon’s amazing Vivid Hall algorithm that adds time variance to avoid the telltale “stiffness” that bedevils convolution-based reverbs while preserving the uncanny sonic realism of Verberate 1’s high-density reverb tails.

Imperfections are the key
Real acoustical spaces will have slight auditory imperfections due to air currents and performer or audience movement. While these imperfections may be subtle at first, their effect as the reverb tail progresses becomes significant, as the sound is reflected numerous times before the reverb tail finally fades out. The Vivid Hall algorithm models these random variations without the artifacts of chorusing effects or pitch changes and can therefore simulate the reverberation of real rooms and halls with a higher degree of realism.
Optimized plate simulation
Verberate 2 also simulates mechanical plate reverbs with higher realism. High frequencies travel faster through metal plates than low frequencies; this effect is called frequency dispersion. Verberate 2’s Dispersion parameter allows for highly realistic plate reverb simulations when combined with the decay editor to simulate the longer high-frequency decay of plate reverbs. The new Swirl parameter even makes it possible to simulate the feedback modulation found in many vintage digital reverb units.
How algorithmic reverb works
Verberate 2’s 15 algorithmic early reflection patterns are calculated in real time and applied using convolution. Following the early reflections is a dense, resonance-free late-reverb tail, resulting in extremely convincing room simulations with splendid depth, along with the tweakability algorithmic reverbs are known for. For instant inspiration, Verberate 2 offers a large selection of gorgeous factory presets, and its clear, concise GUI simplifies your search for a particular reverb quality.
