Dutiful soldier and devoted family man Callum Renwick fights to defend his country from the two opposing nations sharing its border. Following a brutal attack on his unit, he wakes up in the underground laboratory of a well-known mercenary organization. The leader of the Midnight Scorpions, Dr. Dane Zedek, informs him he was the sole survivor of the attack, and his hometown and loved ones were obliterated by enemy forces. As he processes the news of his loss, he learns he has been badly injured, and Zedek and his assistant have supplanted half his body with artificial skin and cybernetic parts.

Zedek intends to train Callum to become a lethal assassin for him, designating the woman who coordinated the attack as his first target. While he prepares to exact his revenge, he is assigned to the care of another agent in the Scorpions’ base. Ro is brash and outspoken, yet aspects of her character remain enigmatic. Despite declaring personal relationships useless in the cold, cruel world in which they live, she invites herself into Callum’s bedroom more nights than not. In her coaching, she pushes him physically, emotionally, and sexually to mold him into the killer the organization desires.

During his quest to hunt down his nemesis, more and more of Callum’s biological body parts fail and must be replaced. In addition to dealing with his grief, he struggles to come to terms with his new appearance, functions, and responsibilities. Will he be able to transform himself into what Ro and the Midnight Scorpions need, yet still retain his humanity?

ADULT Sci-fi Military and Assassins with Romance💕
Humans living on a distant planet are always at war it seems over territory. Oneupmanship is taking its toll, though, with one side having more and more sophisticated and deadly weapons. An underground subversive society is formed called the Midnight Scorpions and their members are highly trained assassins.

When tank soldier Callum🐺💪🔪🔫 is severely injured and burned, he is brought to the Scorpion lab, and cyberneticly pieced back together by scientists. Now he is better than new, but his family was wiped out in the war. Physically, Callum🐺💪🔪🔫 is restored and improved upon, but mentally, he terribly misses his a dead wife and child. The Scorpions try to motivate him to kill with the motivation of revenge!

Another assassin, a woman named Ro💃💋🔫, seduces him with somewhat deviant s@x, but she seems to be completely heartless. It's just rough, meaningless s@x, to pass the time between assignments. How long can both of them live this way?

As time goes by and the mercenaries kill for any side that will hire then, Callum🐺💪🔪🔫💥 also has more problems with his cyborg and human form. He begins to lose his human form as more and more modifications must be made to his body. As a killing machine, has he lost the humanity that still resides in his brain?

For me, this was a very sad and very emotional tale, of the poisonous effects of revenge and power. This is a very disturbing novel.

I really enjoyed this book. Read in one sitting. Thea did a great job crafting this story and I loved Callum and Ro together. This is a must read.

Come for the no-holds-barred spicy erotica…stay for the potent psychological and emotional arcs and—wait, why do I care about the mission?!

Seriously, this kind of sneaks up on you with its depth and tenderness…in between the steamy parts, of course.

Soooooo…yeah. I struggled with Disintegration.

It had a good premise and the blurb definitely had a lot of appeal for me. Dutiful soldier and devoted family man, brutal attack on his unit, sole survivor and badly injured, etc. Really it had a lot going for and I was excited to get started. I was hooked at the beginning when I first started reading, I was really into it. And then I wasn’t.

Each chapter began to feel like it had a plug and play formula, almost repetitious in what was going to happen. Lab. Fight. Sex. Repeat in next chapter. It started getting to the point where I sometimes skimmed over the sex. Worse, I began to dislike the characters, couldn’t care less what happened to them and was happy when the book finally ended. Was it the book or was it me? Honestly, I can’t say but I know I won’t be continuing with the series.

His life destroyed, his body damaged, his emotions put on the backburner. Callum's future as a soldier has taken a drastic turn with the disintegration of his unit and his present. Now, recreated as a cyborg, his allegiance is placed in those who can pay the most. But is his new organization really what it appears to be? Is the humanity that remains inside him to be trusted? Can he survive another deception?

My only disappointment was that this ends on a cliffhanger. Book 2 is expected to be published in November.

This is a dark apocalyptic story about a secret mercenary organization known as the Midnight Scorpions. Callum is a soldier who almost dies in battle, is taken to the organization where he is enhanced to become an assassin along with Ro, a female assassin. As time passes, Callum's parts are failing and are being replaced as he becomes more and more cyborg. He feels his humanity is slowly disappearing. His story is dark, disturbing, and ends with a cliffhanger. I received an advance review copy for free from Book Sirens and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

This was my first foray into full-fledged erotica—and I loved it! Landen is a talented writer, who blends emotional narratives seamlessly with sci-fi technical accuracy (much like Callum’s cybernetic parts—no, that simile doesn’t work, never mind, read the book). The story combines action and intimacy, with the sexual exploits motivated by a range of realistic reactions to loss, conflict, and suffering. After the first chapter, the story is a fresh, fun, sexy palate cleanser—due to Landen’s word weaving and touches of humour—before dissolving into deeper themes of grief and manipulation by controlling authorities. The twisty ending is a satisfying conclusion to this rollercoaster novel—and, to paraphrase a passage from the book, “every chapter is a new erotic adventure”. This is a great read.
