When Major Zoey Granger exposed corruption in the ranks, she became an unwitting media darling and shot to a position reporting to top brass at the Pentagon. Now Zoey finds herself in the unwanted spotlight once again, this time at the heart of a scandal that threatens to devastate the military. Her efforts to contain the fallout are thwarted when the White House assigns a notorious DC fixer to oversee her every move.

Political insider Rook Daniels can fix any problem, no matter how illicit or indictable, but she has two rules: she picks her cases and she’s in charge. When she makes an exception for an old friend at the White House, she gets tangled up with a sexy but stubborn officer who has her own ideas about authority. Rook and Zoey must decide whether a chance at love is worth risking loss of reputation in a town where appearances rule.

Good mystery storyline, likeable characters, and Taite is a skillful writer so I always hope she will go beyond formula phrases and romance. “Ate his gun” is a repetitive and hackneyed phrase thrown in to look authentic I guess, and hyper romantic thoughts don’t dreamily appear in the midst of crises. I always enjoy the books, but then when the formulas appear, I feel cheated. Still, a good read for escape but as usual the ending is rushed and can you really see Zooey in an academic setting? I would vote to keep her career fighting in intelligence work! Let’s see life for both of these women after the happy ending! They deserve to be adventure seeking and complicated.

Enjoyed the story. It had some intrigue and suspense. The characters were easy to like. And I really liked that Julia Scott was in it.

Positively riveting. I enjoyed the story line of the scandal more than the romance however, and could have honestly done without it and I NEVER say that. The romance between the two leads was almost superfluous, and it felt rather forced, fast, and unnatural. I struggled with not really know what either main character looked like, aside from Granger having auburn hair. HOWEVER, this book was still AMAZING. I really love the way that Carsen Taite brings stories to life with her writing style, and I read this book SO FAST because it was so thrilling. I never would have guessed the plot twist early on and I love that she keeps you guessing! A fantastic read and 100% worth your time.

Mystery, thriller, romance, humor and lots more. Carson Taite does a great job keeping the reader engaged and not wanting to put the book down.

Overall decent book. I'm a Carsen Taite fan, so I immediately wanted to read this book. It was a very engaging and suspenseful read. I was sitting on the edge waiting to see what happened. I was a little disappointed at how long it took the characters to fully engage and react to each other though. They had good chemistry from the beginning but seemed to dance around the elephant in the room nearly the entire book. The book was nearly at its end when they finally realized there was something between them. I definitely felt the romance was late and then rushed, I just expected more. I still recommend the read as the story line was very interesting and engaging from the beginning to end. Thank you to Netgalley for a free copy in return for an honest review.

I love strong, interesting women and this book delivers two great characters. Well worth the read.

Enjoyable storyline, even though I it was clearly based off the TV show Scandal. Wish it didn't fall as flat in the end, especially the confrontation scene. That didn't make much sense, and it was a missed opportunity for a development of drama between Rook and Zoey.

I thought this was a great book. A story about a courageous woman in uniform who meets a mysterious woman who solve some major drama together. Carsen Taite did not disappoint. I believe she could create a series following the lives of Zoey and Rook. I love a good story about a woman in uniform who has the courage to do the right thing.

This is a good story, it just took forever to get anywhere, then, when it did, bang, the book was finished. This is the first book I have read by this author and I'm not sure I'll be in a hurry to buy any more.
