Publisher's summary

"Alexis Daria's A Lot Like Adiós is a charming, sexy spitfire of a novel! Between Mich and Gabe's crackling dialogue and their palpable yearning, I fell hard and fast for this book, racing through its pages until I finally closed it with an overflowing heart and a deep happy sigh. Romance readers, this is your new favorite book!" (Emily Henry, number one New York Times best-selling author of People We Meet on Vacation)

The national best-selling author of You Had Me at Hola returns with a seductive second-chance romance about a commitment-phobic Latina and her childhood best friend who has finally returned home.

Hi Mich. It’s Gabe.

After burning out in her corporate marketing career, Michelle Amato has built a thriving freelance business as a graphic designer. So what if her love life is nonexistent? She’s perfectly fine being the black sheep of her marriage-obsessed Puerto Rican Italian family. Besides, the only guy who ever made her want happily-ever-after disappeared 13 years ago.

It’s been a long time.

Gabriel Aguilar left the Bronx at 18 to escape his parents’ demanding expectations, but it also meant saying good-bye to Michelle, his best friend and longtime crush. Now, he’s the successful co-owner of LA’s hottest celebrity gym, with an investor who insists on opening a New York City location. It’s the last place Gabe wants to go, but when Michelle is unexpectedly brought on board to spearhead the new marketing campaign, everything Gabe’s been running from catches up with him.

I’ve missed you.

Michelle is torn between holding Gabe at arm’s length or picking up right where they left off - in her bed. As they work on the campaign, old feelings resurface, and their reunion takes a sexy turn. Facing mounting pressure from their families - who think they’re dating - and growing uncertainty about their futures, can they resolve their past mistakes, or is it only a matter of time before Gabe says adiós again?

Just as good as You Had Me at Hola!

New and previous characters but is not a sequel, tantalizing latinx story with all the same feelings as before, and a sizzling romance with passion. Alexis Daria has done it again! 10/10

Adorable, sexy, hilarious, and very relatable (at least for a millennial who wrote a fanfic as a teen)

I absolutely adored the way the narration explores the relationship of these estranged childhood friends turned lovers. While I totally get why this book might not be what some expect, as someone who wrote fan rica as a teen and also didn’t know how to express my feelings directly as a high school kid, this story was very relatable. At first the inclusion of their old chat room from when they had been teens seems unnecessary, soon the “flashbacks” start to line up with the story, revealing how the two had been flirting with each other subtly and how close their friendship had been throughout high school. While the authenticity might feel fake to someone who was never a part of a fan fiction community, I think this is one the best modern romances I’ve read in a long time. Also it had me cackling in laughter quite a few times.
Seeing how both characters reveal and process their trauma through this book and as they are more vulnerable with each other is beautiful.
And for those that read the previous book in this series I was pretty blown away by how different this book’s vibe was despite being another latinx romance in the same setting.

Hot

Let me just say that stories that get right to the point are my favorite and this one did just that.

Good, but ending was sudden

I enjoyed the book. But, the ending was very blunt. It seemed like there should’ve been more.

Cute but a little slow

The narrator’s performance was good. The story moved too slow for my taste but it was a cute romance. Gabe and Michelle are childhood crushes reconnecting as adults. The chemistry is tangible. There are glimpses into Latinx family ties and experiences which I enjoyed.

Loved it!

I loved the characters and coming from an estranged Latinx family that holds resentments for years, I fully understood Gabe. And I am really glad that the author gave his character the growth and the insight to see that he needed to let things go to be free. Loved the ending too. Highly recommend

Good, but…

Ugh, just like annoyed by Gabe. Felt like it was repetitive and underdeveloped. Skipped over the fan fiction bits. It was meh. The Narrator made it worth it at least

I wanted to love this

whew that did not need to be 30 chapters for one
for two I do love more Latinx writing fanfics but it felt corny and out of place??

I hate listened and I know I'll listen to more of her books but this just wasn't it
