Weston (The K9 Files Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.7 4.7 out of 5 stars 1,117 ratings

Weston was at an impasse in his life, after hearing about his unknown daughter, who’d already been adopted by another family. Only the father had since passed away… So … accepting the mission to track down the missing, blind-in-one-eye, limping war dog named Shambhala—in Alaska—was exactly where he needed to be to sort out this other issue in his life. Finding the dog turned out to be easier than Weston had expected, but sorting out how and why this dog’s owners had been murdered was something else again.

Now a widow, Daniela knew her daughter also needed a father, so she’d contacted Weston, not sure if he even knew of the baby’s existence. When he said he was on the way, she was concerned at what she’d started and that emotion then turned to terror when Sari’s birth mother showed up at Daniela’s doorstep, looking for her daughter again.

Things turn ugly when Weston’s war dog investigation impacts his daughter’s life and her new mother. He must do something, or everything he’s finally found will be lost.

Fantastic!

Wow! This one gets twisty right away! Weston travels to Anchorage, Alaska and gets nose deep in the details surrounding his daughter, the birth mother, the adoptive mother and the war dog he came to find. The longer he is there, the more weird things happen.

Weston finds the war dog, Shambhala, roaming around behind the feed store parking lot. It doesn’t take much effort to capture her and assess her overall condition. Food and attention is the first on the list of her needs but a place to stay is a close second.

Suspected murder turns to the real thing, Daniela is receiving threats to have her adopted daughter, Sari taken from her and young Sari is instantly in love with Shambhala, the three- legged, one-eyed, highly trained, war dog!

I love how Weston jumps right in to figure out what’s going on with both the dog’s situation and Sari’s adoption. He doesn’t know things will blow up into a bigger mess as more questions are asked than answered.

A very heartwarming relationship between Sari and Shambhala, who is very protective of the toddler. There is a variety of emotions between Weston and Daniela along with Daniela’s fear of losing Sari to her birth mother, Angel. Suspicious events combine when unknown details of Sari’s adoption are revealed and Shambhala’s owners are dead. Twists and turns, mysterious gunfire, harassing phone calls, murders all make for a fast-paced read with emotional subjects. There is a sweet satisfaction when Weston and Daniela find their chemistry is off the charts despite all that is happening. Great story, very engaging and a must read all in one sitting!

WOW!Another FANTASTIC story by Dale! Weston was itching to be assigned a case of one of the K-9s. Weston was assigned to Shambhala in Alaska. Weston had another reason to head to Alaska - he found out he had a daughter. His daughter was adopted out without his knowledge of her existence. Daniela had adopted Weston's daughter. Daniela's life had taken a turn for the worst when her husband got sick and decided to cheat on her and basically rubbed it in her face. He then died. Daniela wanted her daughter to know her father so she contacted Weston to let him know. So now Weston had two missions - a dog and his daughter. Weston almost immediately found Shambhala and his daughter basically adopted the dog and vice versa. Their bond was instantaneously. Weston was taken by Daniela almost instantly. Once all of the bad things were taken care of, these two worked on their happily ever after. The daughter is so sweet as well as Shambhala. FANTASTIC job Dale! I would recommend this book!

You, Dear Writer, need a proofreader. Please note that “here” and “there” are not interchangeable. Please note also that “pecks” are half-bushels, not chest muscles; not even an abbreviation of “pectorals,” which would be “pecs.” There are also punctuation issues, particularly what I refer to as comma abuse. Dear Writer, if you are attempting to save money by proofing and editing your own work, it’s definitely not your best course of action. It’s too easy to miss repeated or habitual errors. If you’re counting on a friend to proof your work, well, you get what you paid for.

On the other hand, I’ve been working my way through the K9 files, and while they’re predictable in lots of ways, they are also enjoyable.

Weston is adrift after he is sidelined from his injuries. He is working for Badger and Titanium Corp. and he recently found out that he fathered a daughter. His daughter and her adoptive mother live in Alaska and Weston chooses to go there to see his daughter and hunt for a missing war dog who has one eye and 3 legs, Shambula is her name.

I loved this story. His little girl Sari is adorable. Shambula is immediately drawn to Sari and the two are inseperable from the beginning. The bond is wonderful to see. Sari's birth mother is out to start problems and Shanbula's caretakers were killed and a mystery ensues. Weston will have to figure it out before his daughter disappears.

This book had a lot of action just like I have come to expect from Ms. Mayer. I have loved reading about each and every dog and how they get their happy ending as well as the men sent to find the dogs. Weston continues that tradition. I can't wait for the next one.

The wilds of Alaska turn out to be a wild adventure for Weston. Seems at every turn someone’s trying to do him in. And everything is connected—the danger to his daughter, the dead lawyer, the two people run off the road and burned to a crisp, etc. Through it all he has to complete his mission to rescue the missing K9, and he does. Good thing too, because she’s instrumental in the final confrontation

I enjoyed this book. A strong heroine who does everything she can to be a good mother and protect her daughter. This book shows what it is like to live with a well trained dog who has a stable temperament and is enjoying life.

Weston had a phone call from Alaska telling him he had a daughter, but she had been adopted. Then he received information from the adoptive mother inviting him to meet his daughter. When Weston was offered the job of finding their next missing War Dog in Alaska, he went. He had no clue as to all the events that followed would be so life changing for him and so many others!

Weston goes to Alaska to search for a dog and to meet the adoptive mother, Daniella, of his daughter, Sari, that he's only just found out about.
Things take a turn for the worse when it turns out that the dog is missing, and Sari's biological mother has turned up.
