Edit
So I’ve had this camera for a few months now and as I stated previously the camera works phenomenal however the Bluetooth built-in Wi-Fi control system thingies is a very slow you have to put your phone on airplane mode and turn on the built-in Wi-Fi just to be able to see the videos that’s on your saved on your camera from the app. Or you have to buy a 50 cm mini data cable in order to upload them to your computer which I cannot find at any local store. Anyways my problem is not with the product itself it’s just with the app and not being efficient. Like if I am In a car accident and need to pull up videos quick that will not possible with the app for the camera
Most of the problems talked about can be helped with one vital update you can get from Support or do a little research. My rear camera would not work either but the update fixed it. Also, the app does suck yes, but if you turn on airplane mode while using it, videos load a lot faster.
I’ve had the camera almost half a year, exposing it to 90 degree weather during summer everyday as I am a courier, and the camera functions just fine today. Honestly for the price you won’t get much better quality than this. It’s a solid camera.
Easy to install, very good video quality & reliable.
This camera has failed me twice so far, and I don't even know if I want to wait on a third. For context, I hardwired the camera into a Honda Civic using entirely Viofo parts. I installed it manually ensuring the fuse taps were done correctly, and routed the wires throughout the liner. I formatted the SD card, and downloaded the latest firmware. Before driving, I made sure that everything was operational and functioning how it was supposed to, so I know I could put my confidence in this product for my new car. Little did I know what would come...
The first time: A catalytic converter was stolen from a family members car overnight. I was relieved to see that they had parked directly behind me (and also my rear dash cam). But, when I went to check the footage, there was no trace of the rear camera's footage whatsoever. I thought that maybe the cord had become disconnected, but everything was fine. I just unplugged the cord and plugged it back in and all of a sudden it started working and recording again. Because I didn't want another incident to happen again, I redownloaded all the firmware and rechecked the settings to make sure that everything was working properly. I guess this time was just bad luck...
Second time: I had parked on a pretty busy street before work. Later on, I come back to my new car with it's back bumper slightly falling off and a giant mark with scratched paint on the driver's side. I thought that this was an easy insurance claim, because my dashcam would have caught it all. BUT, when I went to check the footage, the car that I believe hit me was not included in the footage. Strangely enough, the impact itself was completely absent from the footage. I reviewed the entire day's worth of footage manually myself, and all that was shown was the car parking, but never leaving (when the impact occurred). I had the car on auto detection mode with high sensitivity, and I found it strange that it completely missed the car backing out and hitting my car. I would think a car backing out would trigger the motion detector on high sensitivity, but I guess not. Call that bad luck if you want, but so far all I've seen is a pattern of unreliability.
If you're looking for a dashcam that is meant to be there for you in your times of need, this dashcam, is NOT for you. It is unreliable and definitely not worth the price tag given the competition with a similar price point. Although it has failed me only twice, a good dashcam shouldn't be given that many chances. Even if the camera itself has all the bells and whistles, and meets all of your requirements on paper, none of that has any meaning if the camera fails you in your times of need. Don't make the same mistake I did, and buy a different product.
That said, It's mostly set and forget, so there's not really an inherent need to use the app super often but I like to use it to tweak the camera settings ,delete unwanted footage periodically, etc.
So being able to keep the wifi on constantly would be a nice QOL...but it's not a deal breaker, just a minor convenience, the cameras otherwise do their job and record those clips you never thought you needed.
The camera quality is surprisingly good, even in lower light conditions...the dashcam market has been plagued with average and mediocre sensors for a while, but this particular set has the quality to back up an extremely reasonable price tag!
I look forward to getting the battery kit installed so I can actually have this running even when the car is off. As always, shop around go with what you feel is best, but I'm happy with my purchase!
Top reviews from other countries
The only complaint I have is that the wifi is absolutely terrible. 3 seconds of playback followed by 10 seconds of buffering if you try to watch a file direct from the camera. It takes ages to copy a single file to your phone for playback. It's probably faster to drive home, remove the card and watch it on your computer.
I selected the Viofo A129 Plus Duo because it was almost identical in size, shape and specs to my failed unit and was about a third cheaper than the failed unit to replace, so I figured it was worth a punt. It also had upgraded QHD Front and HD rear cams compared to HD at both ends for my previous brand (I have not named them as the product and support was very good but just too expensive now in comparison.)
Installation was generally straight forward, however the Viofo A129 Plus has a UNIQUE rear camera cable so I had to replace the old cable with the Viofo cable. My car is a station wagon (Australia, Estate in Europe) so this was not a simple task. I purchased anyway due to the price differential and the fact I had installed the original cable myself so I knew what I was in for - about 3 hours of careful trim removal and routing of the cable. Ironically the original rear camera mount was identical so I did not have to mess about removing that component.
I also replaced the previous hard wire kit with a new viofo (HD3) kit although this was not really necessary as the existing kit was identical, but given it was also 4 years old and I already had the car trim apart the small extra in $ was worthwhile to have an all new setup.
So far very happy with the Viofo with improved definition and images at both ends. The CPL from my old dash cam was also identical so that just slipped over the viofo lens without the need to buy a new one. Time will be the test, it just needs to last 2 years to be more cost effective than replacing with my previous brand.
So far my dual channel dash cams have assisted me twice. The first was when the vehicle in front decided to reverse into my car while stopped at a red light. The front camera proved he reversed into me, and that it was not me driving into him. The 2nd time my car was rear ended, again while waiting at a red light, the rear cam made it obvious I was stationary at the time. Both low speed incidents but the cameras made it very clear who was at fault if they came to insurance claims.
I did also purchase the optional wiring kit to allow it to be wired into the car's fusebox so it works in "parking mode" as well but to date haven't bothered with it - it works well enough plugged into the cigarette lighter socket. I still think it's a good idea and would make for a neater install... it's just waiting for the day when I have plenty of time to kill and nothing more interesting to do.
First, the app is completely nonfunctional, at least on Android, as experienced by myself and attested by the reviews on the app store. As far as I'm concerned, this dash cam has no connectivity, and you should not buy it expecting as much. Therefore, it completely relies on you being able to retrieve the sd card from the dash cam in the case of an accident, and footage can only practically be recovered by physically removing the micro sd card from the device and ingesting in into a phone or computer with a micro sd card reader, or some other compatible adapter.
This product does not come with a micro sd card, which is fine as it does not claim to. It is worth knowing this, however, as you will not be able to use the camera until you have one on hand. Given the minuscule price differences for storage, I'd recommend a very high capacity class 10 card so you can have the camera use its full bit-rate and resolution without having to worry about it running out of storage or accidentally deleting important clips in the case you forget to hit the save button.
For my vehicle, the cable leading from the primary camera to the rear camera was just barely long enough to reach the back of my vehicle. I drive a very compact SUV bordering large hatchback sedan. I ran the cable underneath the interior trim pieces in such a way that I did not have to make any modifications to the vehicle. If my vehicle was even a little bit larger, this would not have been possible and I would have had to run the cable in the roof of the vehicle, which would have required significantly more time and effort on my end as well as some permanent modifications to the vehicle's interior.
My only other complaint is that the adhesives on the cable routing clips were entirely useless, and did not adhere to the plastic interior parts of my vehicle in any way. The adhesives on the camera mounts worked just fine on the same material, so I have no idea why this is the case. I used my own double sided tape to mount the cable routing clips, so have some on hand before beginning the installation project.
I am very happy with the functional parts of the device; the camera quality is excellent, both cameras work flawlessly and with very minimal latency. Picture quality is excellent in daylight and sufficient at night. The camera starts up very quickly, which I appreciate, and the settings allow the screen to turn off after a brief confirmation of functionality so that it is not distracting while driving. The camera is reasonably compact. As far as the camera's components are concerned, installation was easy and required no troubleshooting. The UI is functional. I purchased this used from Amazon Warehouse, and would happily buy it again and recommend it at that price. I would not purchase it at full regular price, given my prior stated issues.
