Pokemon SoulSilver DS
Amazon.com
Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version return players to the scenic Johto region first introduced in the beloved original Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver games nearly a decade ago. The richly detailed adventure of Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver is now enhanced for the Nintendo DS and Nintendo DSi systems with updated graphics and sound, as well as new touch-screen features and a host of surprises. Pokémon HeartGold Version and Pokémon SoulSilver Version bring dozens of Pokémon characters back into the limelight for a new Pokémon generation - and longtime fans - to catch, train and battle.
The Pokéwalker Included:
The Pokéwalker is a special pedometer that you carry with you that lets you take Pokémon fun wherever you go! You can transfer a Pokémon onto the Pokéwalker accessory using an infrared connection between the Pokéwalker and your Game Card. Then as you Stroll around with your Pokémon, it’ll earn Experience Points to gain a level. And you can even find items and special Pokémon while you’re on the go! The Pokéwalker is small enough that you can keep it in your pocket and take wherever you go. It also has a clip to hook it on your belt, and a hole for attaching a strap. It’s never been easier to take Pokémon with you!
Pokéwalker The Pokéwalker counts the number of steps you take as you walk around. The more steps you take, the more Watts you earn, which you can spend to find items and Pokémon!
When you transfer a Pokémon from your game into your Pokéwalker, you can select which Route you’d like to take your Pokémon along. Depending on which Route you take (such as in a grassland or by the sea), you’ll encounter different wild Pokémon and find remarkable items. When you first begin your journeys with the Pokéwalker, the list of Routes you can select from is short. But, the more you take a Stroll with your Pokémon, the more Routes will appear and the more Pokémon and items you’ll be able to get!
Catch Wild Pokémon!
After you’ve collected some Watts by going on a Stroll with your Pokémon, spend some of them to use the Poké Radar to catch wild Pokémon! If you see tall grass rustling after you use the Poké Radar, you know you’ve found a Pokémon. You have three options in the battle. You can attack, evade, or catch the wild Pokémon. By attacking, you can wear down the wild Pokémon to make it easier to catch. If you choose to evade when the wild Pokémon attacks, you’ll perform a counterattack! And when you think the timing is right, throw a Poké Ball to catch the Wild Pokémon. You can keep up to three caught Pokémon in your Pokéwalker at a time. If you catch a fourth Pokémon, you must choose one of them to set free.
Find Items!
Use the Pokéwalker’s Dowsing Machine to help find items. Like the Poké Radar, you use the Watts you earned while walking to use the Dowsing Machine. Some of the items you can find are quite uncommon! When you use the Dowsing Machine, you’ll see six patches of tall grass, and one of them has a hidden item in it. You have only two chances to discover the item! Some of the items you can get are really hard to find and very valuable, so keep hunting!
Time to Transfer!
Once you’ve found Pokémon and items using your Pokéwalker, you can send them back to your Pokémon game. You can only keep up to three Pokémon and three items in your Pokéwalker at a time, so be sure to send them to your game when your inventory fills up! Remember, if you catch a fourth Pokémon in your Pokéwalker, you’ll have to swap out one of the three Pokémon you’ve already caught.
The Pokéwalker Journal
After your Pokémon has spent some time in your Pokéwalker, you can get a recap in the Pokéwalker Journal. The journal tells of all the places the Pokémon has been and the things it has found while traveling inside your Pokéwalker! For example, if you catch a particular Pokémon while out on a Stroll, your Pokéwalker Journal will make note of it. It will also keep track of how your Pokémon has behaved while inside your Pokéwalker!
Pokéwalkers Communicate with Each Other!
The Pokéwalkers don’t communicate only with Game Cards—they can also communicate with each other! When you connect Pokéwalkers with a friend, you’ll both receive an item as a gift! You can connect two Pokéwalkers via infrared signal by pointing them at each other. When you do so, both players will receive an item! You can receive up to ten items by connecting to your friends, but you can get only one gift per person, per day.

So far, the product is great. I've played the game for about three hours now and no technical problems have occurred thus far. I have been pleased with the game experience as well. The fourth gen look and format really makes the game pop out, and the features from third and fourth gen Pokemon games are really nice to have as well. However, I thought the shipping was ridiculous.
When I first ordered this, I was wary of the 67% approval rating of the seller. At first I wasn't even going to buy from Leolx, but then I decided it would probably be better to buy from an Ohio outlet since I live in Ohio. I figured it would take less time for the product to reach my apartment. Of course, the week I ordered this, we got buckets of snow, and MLK Day also occurred days after the order. I anticipated the game would arrive by Saturday or so.
It really shouldn't take more than three days to ship a package from one end of Ohio to the other. So, by Saturday I figured, okay, it's probably here. The package was being processed in my hometown and I figured it would arrive on Saturday. Yet, when I looked up the tracking process the next day, the package was 470 miles away in Nashville, Tennessee! I nearly spilled my dinner in shock. How and why on earth did this happen? I thought the package was ready to be delivered. I sent an email to Leolx asking what was up, but never received a response. That's pretty pathetic, if you ask me.
When I received the package today (01/29), I was even more shocked to know the seller is out of my hometown! Why would it take over a week to ship an expedited package from the seller to my apartment?? I again acknowledge the weather has been nasty, but there is simply no excuse for the service I received. I ordered a 2 to 6 day expedited shipment for an infinitesimally sized product, (the package contained only the cartridge), and from my hometown no less! I am extremely upset with the seller and even more upset I ignored my gut feeling to avoid this seller. If you're like me and want to buy from someone relatively close to your Ohio home, carefully consider your options.
Overall, the three stars represent 1) the great quality of the product 2) the amount of fun I've had playing it so far and 3) the hopes the seller Leolx will improve their shipping. I will update this review in the future after I've had more time to play.
*Update* 01/30/14
I'm about fourteen hours into the game so far and I've beaten the Violet City and Azalea Town gym leaders. I'm currently in Goldenrod City and I own 22 pokemon. I love the visual effects and the formatting, but I believe I stumbled upon an issue with the game. After reaching Goldenrod, I explored the Game Corner and got the coin case from Mr. Game. However, when I go to play against him, the screens are black and only the music is playing. I don't know if this is a problem with the game cartridge or the DS, but I've turned the game on and off a few times to see if restarting would work. This has not worked. I'll be sure to find out the reason for this, but if anyone can help me with this I'd appreciate it.

I have changed my rating of this product back to two stars after the following experience:
I currently have the first four gym badges, and I have made it to Olivine City. However, I can no longer say I have any confidence in the person who sold the game. When I went to resume the game today, I got two black screens with the Olivine City music playing in the background. I couldn't actually resume without starting a completely new game. I went online to find out what this could be and found a forum on the Nintendo website talking about the same problem. Apparently the black screens occur for some people after beating the fourth gym player: they save their game after beating the gym leader, come back later to resume and get the two black screens of death. According to some of the people in the forum, the problem is likely linked to a fake cartridge. The following message is from the forum (at [...])

Re: Soul Silver Leading Problem
If you are playing this game on a DS or DS-Lite, it is possible that the game is counterfeit. You can verify this by trying it in a DSi, DSiXL or 3DS. If it does not play at all and gives a message that an error has occurred on any of these systems, then the game is counterfeit, and you should return it to the seller.
I was devastated to learn that this could be a counterfeit product. I spent some time trying the forum-recommended tests on my DS; for one, some people recommended blowing on the cartridge and in the slot to dislodge any dust. I tried this and all of my other games work perfectly on the DS, including Pokemon Diamond version. However, Soul Silver still did not work. I may very well have bought a counterfeit game. I cannot account for this claim, but I recommend buyers everywhere to take extreme caution buying this game. The link I provided has a lot of incidents where people bought Pokemon SoulSilver from an online source and got a bad product. I would recommend finding a brand-new, never opened version of the game. Your chances of getting a working product will likely be much higher. I still love this game, though. It's been a lot of fun so far and a five out of five star game for sure. I just hope to find a version of this that will actually work.
I requested to return the product today and I hope to get at least half of my money back. Again, I recommend buying a brand spanking-new version of the game if at all possible.
*Update* 02/04/14
I currently have a brand new copy of the game, and so far I've managed to regain about a third of my original pokemon. The new copy came much faster than the first one. It has worked satisfactorily so far. I don't really have much to say at the moment until I reach the level I was at with my previous card. The person who sold me the first copy still hasn't responded to my return request. I do not recommend you buy from this person: Leolx. The new copy I have is from Games-2-Play. I'm happy with the fast delivery they offered, but I can't say much else about them as well until further gameplay.
*Update* 02/05/14
I've just reached Goldenrod City and I was excited yet nervous to test out the game corner. When I went to play there with my original game card from Leolx, the screens went black with the music still playing in the background. However, I can thankfully say the Games-2-Play store sold me a good copy: the game corner works! Getting an unopened version of the game is definitely the safest way to ensure you do not get a glitchy game. This makes the product even more appealing to me since I was afraid the game was going to be glitched no matter what condition the game card is. It seems to me then the first game card I got was in bad shape through use of its previous owner. However, I'm not entirely sold yet. There's one more potential obstacle I'm aware of and I'm hoping I don't experience it with the new game card. I'm updating my rating to three stars.
*Update* 02/17/14
I've long since beaten the Elite Four. This means I am completely satisfied with my purchase from Games-2-Play. The game is even more fun knowing I got a working copy. I was able to get past the fourth gym leader without worrying about getting the black screens of death after saving, quitting and returning to the game. I hope that other prospective buyers will consider Games-2-Play. When I purchased from them, the product arrived on time and in great condition. The game is loads of fun. A lot of differences do exist between SoulSilver and Silver, but in my opinion, it is a worthwhile game. I update my rating to five stars.
There is no doubt in my mind that the Pokewalker existence is a direct response to the growing epidemic of child obesity. The big question is whether it's properly designed to meet its goal. I found that the Pokewalker exceeded my expectations and might just open up a new frontier in gaming. The Pokewalker is a pedometer that can also serve as a kind of pseudo Pokeball. In fact it's even designed to resemble a Pokeball except for the fact that it isn't spherical. In order to get your Pokemon into the Pokewalker you need to place it in front of you DS and press a button to connect and the data will stream over. Naturally you can also return your Pokemon and a good day of moving about should raise you Pokemon up a level as well as increase its happiness. As a pedometer the Pokewalker will count the amount of steps you take and store up `watts' that can be traded in for chances at Pokemon or items. Any watts left over when you return your Pokemon to the DS will get saved and when you collect enough watts new areas for walking open up. When I say areas I'm referring to the area that your Pokemon will walk in and the other Pokemon you encounter will differ based on the area you send your Pokemon. For the player, running, biking, riding the elliptical, doing housework, walking to school and so on will generate watts. For ten watts a player has a chance to catch a Pokemon using the three buttons on the Pokewalker. For 3 watts a player can try for an item. Catching a Pokemon is pretty simple and you'll probably succeed more often than fail except in the case of harder Pokemon. Using a Wifi event I opened up a route called Winner's Path and had a heck of a time getting Munchlax, one of the few Pokemon that continues to elude me. There are unlimited balls and any damage to your Pokemon heals at the beginning of each battle. There are three levels of Pokemon per area and the more steps a player accumulate in a day the rarer Pokemon they can catch.
The Pokewalker succeeds because it encourages players to move around quite a bit in a single day in order to get better Pokemon and it encourages them to stay active by having environments that are locked until hundreds of thousands of watts are accumulated. There are just tons of Pokemon available in the Pokewalker including some that are quite difficult to obtain. The best one I saw was Spiritomb but that one requires a whole lot of watts so a player will need to move around quite a bit. There are no legendary Pokemon in the Pokewalker and personally I think it would have been nice if it included something like Celebi although perhaps it's difficult to limit a capture to just one with the Pokewalker which would mean player could conceivably load up on multiple legendaries if one was available. I really can't say whether kids are actually moving about more to capture more Pokemon but this is definitely the kernel of an idea that could take off. It's quite likely that video games bear at least some measure of responsibility for childhood obesity and it's nice to see Nintendo trying to reverse the trend.

Not even close to a "very good" condition I would have uploaded more proof, but I'm only allowed to upload 1.
Gameplay: Addictive. I love the feeling of catching wild pokemon and adding them to my pokedex. Trust me, there are loads of them for both Johto and Kanto. I have also just taken to walking through the long grass to fight wild pokemon to level up my pokemon, give them new moves and, more importantly, seeing what cool evolution they are going to take on next. After you have beat the game don't worry, as there is still side quests to complete.
Music: Good music for different areas that helped bring out the atmosphere in them. Every pokemon has a different sound when they come into battle as well.
Pokemon: They all look pretty cool. As mentioned before, it is really exciting when your pokemon evolve as you don't know how they are going to change. May that be getting bigger muscles, developing legs or something else.
Gameplay length: I have played this game for 43 hours already and I am in Mahogany Town and I only have 6 gym badges, halfway through the amount. There is also Kanto which is a new land I haven't reached yet. Of course Kanto has its own pokemon as well! As mentioned before there are also side quests to complete after you beat the story.
Pokewalker: This is a great new addition to the pokemon series. When I go out walking I take my pokewalker with me. You can find items and level up your pokemon in your pokewalker when you transfer it back to your DS.
Overall: 10/10 without question. This is the best DS game I have ever played and I will definitely go back and play it again. I will also play the other games in the series, which I hope will be as fantastic and addictive as this one.
